    LAD seems like a good fit. They know how to build innings and use swingmen instead of the traditional 1 IP approach (e.g. Maeda and Urias in recent years).

    I wouldn't base his future on a couple of deleted tweets and a business decision. (Most) people aren't that fickle.

    I think opening with "little doubt that he can hit" and burying that he doesn't make contact in 1/3 of his ABs is misleading. I see the strikeouts in MiLB as a major concern. It seems like he's closer to Sano on his cold streaks.

    I highly doubt that other GMs are basing their value on what the Twins' FO said this offseason with zero games played in the meantime. They base it on scouting reports.

    The postseason is often about who is hot at the right time. Matt Garza and David Freese were also above average baseball players who weren't superstars.

    That's the rub. You can't just hand a rookie the job either. Sometimes they need more seasoning or that mental wake-up call.

    The Twins shouldn't worry about any team but themselves. But as fans, should we worry? I guess that's the fun of the season.

    Exactly. I wonder if he's just going to be streaky, which is weird when it comes to patience. It was great his rookie year and parts of last year. The playoffs...not so much.

    Remember when Ryan LaMarre was starting in September, or when infielder Luis Arraez was put in LF repeatedly last year? Yes. They will make room for them.

    The extra option year is intriguing. I also think Romero is a case for why we shouldn't make statements like "bolstered by Brusdar Graterol's now-confirmed inclusion." Never rely on a rookie to be a difference maker, and never rely on a player in a new position to be a difference maker. If they are, great. But that's a bonus. But you're more likely to end up disappointed. Transition usually takes time.

    If Cave is out of options, I'd say he's guaranteed a spot at this point. He's been extremely hot/cold and I don't like his strikeouts (or defense, though that's more fixable). If he can hit as a role player, he's an okay piece on the bench. If he plays like last April-May, then no thank you.

    Good teams often led players go after team control expires. It's one of the most difficult parts of maintaining a successful roster. When the current core hits that point, they can only afford to keep maybe half. I would let a quality corner OF go into free agency almost every time. Production is easier to replace at that position. Of course, I also think Eddie's personality is a big part of this team. But we have 1-2 years to figure that out.

    While the only way for a team (not in LA or NY) to get an ace is to develop one, I think this is probably the best move. 1) I'm not sold that he has enough pitches to be an effective starter yet. 2) As another poster already say, we kept waiting for Meyer and Romero to build up their innings levels too. If it hasn't happened by the time he reached AAA, it's not a sign it's going to happen. 3) In an era of Andrew Miller, Josh Hader, and openers, there are more opportunities for innings. In theory, he could throw 70-90 IP as a reliever instead of the 50-60 standard of a few years ago.

    I'm curious how teams will use the 26th spot. Will it be the best 26 players, or will it benefit role players like defensive or speed specialists? The LOOGY rule seems to mean it won't be for a specialist pitcher.

    The notion that it's not a team game and that every facet doesn't matter is equally ridiculous. I didn't say "the Twins would have won if Sano caught that ball." I said "two innings would have gone differently."

    I remember at least 2 sharp doubles down the 3B line that went for extra bases instead of killing Yankees rallies. I also remember NYY making 1-2 of those plays on their side of the ball.

    Definitely. I don't want to go off-topic, but other contenders have signed a lot of versatile 10th men this year. I'm guessing last year's Twins are part of the inspiration. All around, this team is positionally flexible when there is an injury. Sano, Arraez, Gonzalez, Adrianza, Kepler, Cave...

    I think it's telling that the Berrios case is about $.5m, yet many people are saying "what's another $10m to Donaldson?" It might feel like play money to us, but it's very real. I also expect it to be resolved, unless the Twins front office wants another arbitration case to set precedent.

    I could see a 1 year placeholder signing like these names, with the option to dump them if a prospect is ready. The 26th roster spot may allow for that. But I also expect a steady rotation between the IF and C. With Garver, Gonzalez, Adrianza, Arraez, and Austudillo also capable of playing multiple positions, I think we'll see a lot of that. They could simply rotate who plays at 1B and 3B in a rotation to keep everyone fresh. Then let Gordon, Rooker, and Kiriloff push their way onto the roster.
