  1. I'd rather have 2 years of (overpriced) aging Cruz than 4 of Ozuna or LaMattheiu -- neither of whom are going to be worth their contract at the end.
  2. Dobnak is the only surprise to me. And that they think .313 wins a batting title.
  3. Austudillo in LF is interesting. I've said in other threads that I think the Twins bench spots rely on who can be a 5th OF. Cave/Wade are 100% capable 4th OF, but based on recent years I think they'd like a super utility type who can play adequate IF/OF.
  4. And no rumors of demand for Marwin anywhere either (yet).
  5. I hate to say this aloud, because it's entirely not based on quantifiable data, but I want a few players on the team who have been in championship and World Series games. That alone makes me favor Hernandez in this scenario.
  6. I could see the case for giving Jeffers some time in MiLB, but I don't expect it. And I think Tellis is the backup plan in that case.
  7. If you're looking for a "raid" or a lopsided trade, it wouldn't be any of these players. It would be a salary dump -- Gray might be the closest. The rest have too much control and come at a cost. And I like Gray. I have a weird thing where I like to see players who bombed for NYY do well elsewhere. If we can't beat them in the payoffs we can at least get value out of Carl Pavano But I suspect you're just alliterating the title and that wasn't your intent. The more good players the Twins can get, the better. I'll leave it at that. They should always be doing due diligence on who may be available. SP and RP are the obvious targets, but I don't see why CIN would trade players a controllable RP, as those players are affordable during arbitration. It would likely cost quite a bit more (see Pressley trade).
  8. And what happens if Garver gets another concussion? Depth is always good.
  9. I'm glad we had a mini-season last year, but I'm evaluating very few players on what happened during.
  10. I wish they'd just sit down with the MLBPA instead of the power play press releases.
  11. Too many good players is never a problem. I don't believe in logjams. Even in the rare case where a prospect is a sure thing, plans wills will suddenly change. See Mauer's rookie season...all 20 AB of it. Make the prospects force their way onto the roster; don't hand it to them. That said, this roster is built in a way that Cruz is not essential. They'd get by without him. But they'd be better with him.
  12. If it's a salary dump where the Twins give up low level prospects or the Cubs eat salary, yes. But I wouldn't trade for that contract as is. I'd insist on a deal that favors the Twins to offset its risk.
  13. Suspect both players will be back in the MN system (or traded and in MiLB) by August. *pending a "normal" season
  14. Thanks for this. I saw the comments about the entertainment aspect. To me, it seems like the Saints were previously defined by their independence which...isn't the case as an affiliate. But it's probably good business move for both sides, especially in a post-pandemic unknown that could really hurt the indie leagues.
  15. I'd like to hear more quotes from Saints ownership. I think the changes in this article will impact them more than anyone else. Thanks for the good writeup.
  16. Reading the tea leaves (just like I was doing with Marwin's role), I agree. But who has the second most MLB innings on the roster at 3B, after Donaldson and Sano? Arraez? Gordon/Blankenhorn aren't locks, which means I think they sign somebody capable of SS/3B.At minimum, an Illdemaro-type. But perhaps a bigger name.
  17. I wouldn't give Santana 2 years. But I also wouldn't have done so 2 years ago, so what do I know.
  18. You beat me to it. I suppose I should say something about how of course it ends at Hooey. Forget Hicks. The Hardy trade is still the worst recent trade in my memory by a longshot.
  19. I do think they're flexible on how they achieve it, but I think in the two openings created by Marwin+Adrianza they need a backup SS and a capable OF fill-in. I'd also personally argue that Cave could do that as the 4th OF, but Marwin got a lot of OF time the last two years. I'm also curious who the backup 3B would be. Blankenhorn has the most time there, I think. Polanco/Arraez/Gordon...or Sano on occasion? Lots of ways to do it. I'm making my predictions on how much playing time Marwin got, which might be unique to him and not his replacement.
  20. I don't see it. Marwin is likely to be replaced by a super utility player or a 5th OF. And I don't see Polanco's arm in the OF.
  21. Is this based on the opening day DH? Because a lot of the names listed did not get many DH ABs in those particular years. Park being a recent example.
  22. A great pitcher. But no rings, which matters at his position.
  23. I was only here to say "not in the Central, please," only to see your first two spots. I think a contender signs him (so not DET).
  24. I believe arbiters are legal professionals, not baseball professionals.
