  1. 3 years of SP for 1 year of RP. Seems like a no brainer. You can always rebuild a bullpen (see 99% of deadline trades). Most SP will cost a prospect SP or CF in return. And Rooker finally has a spot.
  2. So many pitchers. MLB has been trending this way for 20 years but still... And with universal DH, we're near the end of pinch hitting.
  3. This is not directed at the OP, and I use this phrase too about "how long of a leash." But it's kind of weird how many phrases we uses for athletes are the same terms we use for animals.
  4. Garver was good. But I won't miss the passed balls.
  5. Can't wait to have this same discussion when we go 28-to-26 ? As long as Rooker has options, I don't care between Rooker/Garlick. Thought the 40-spot casualty may be interesting.
  6. Definitely make or break time with Stashak. Was he pitching injured last year? If not, the league seems to have figured him out.
  7. I'm sure teams are asking for too much. With their rotation of 2 weeks ago, they absolutely looked like they'd make a desperation move. It gives the other side leverage. Hopefully they've upgraded a couple pegs closer toward mediocrity. For all the reasons.
  8. I think last season showed that this FO is willing to do that faster than the previous. Or maybe I remember things wrong.
  9. Miranda is out of options, right? Are they really going to carry 3 backup IFs in Miranda, Gordon and Arraez? I suppose both Arraez and Gordon play OF, so maybe... but I wonder if there's a roster crunch between Miranda and Gordon then. Come 26-roster limits, anyway. Then again, knowing modern baseball, the team will use the #27 and #28 roster slots for a 20th bullpen arm and 15th catcher.
  10. I'm not reading anything into this. They want to protect service time in case of a ST injury.
  11. So what is the penalty if an infielder is "out of position" and has a foot on the grass? I'm neutral on a lot of these but HATE the anti-shift rule. Shy of drawing "position boxes" in the dirt, this seems like a rule for the sake of rules.
  12. Not a fan, but I'll take it over 7-inning games 10/10 times. Now move it to the 12th. Or, better yet, the 18th.
  13. This article fails to mention his age, which is a big detail. It's an age old question: will he get better at defense? Koskie and Morneau, for example, were butchers at first but became above average. Sano...has not. And maybe that's not relevant since these examples are all on the corners. And did the Twins give up on him, or was he not playing OF because Donaldson was iffy (moved to DH for preservation) and they had the most depth with natural OFers? I don't have the answers to any of these questions. But I like him at 2B if he can play 130 games/yr. It sounds like his role, and longevity, will depend on his conditioning.
  14. It would also make it easier to manage prospects' innings.
  15. I generally agree, but it is far more complex about this because we don't know what Donaldson wants in a contract and never will. It's not just baseball. It's a job, so family, community, culture and more stuff play into it. But I hope he's mad about last year. Every player should be. Because if they don't want to do better, well, I guess we know what the problem is...
  16. If your definition of a "non mistake" contract is winning the World Series, then almost every single contract in the league is a mistake.
  17. Not sure I'd call Hicks' Yankees career "reliable." But he had a couple good years, for sure.
  18. Twins did really well for late round picks that year.
  19. Are these the top 5 articles for all years since their publish date, or the most read articles during the actual calendar year of 2014?
  20. Surprised the top 20 prospects weren't more popular. But, looking back on team performance over those next few years...
  21. I agree that pitching, both SP and RP, need upgrades. But I'd kick the tires on a Didi trade for SS. I feel like he could be acquired cheap as a salary dump.
  22. Strange premise...that the Twins owe him something besides a paycheck. If you argued that the team was somehow holding him back or making his performance or health worse, I'd understand the concept. But instead you say he's more or less living up to expectations. I don't get it.
  23. Only if they have no faith in Jeffers. And even then I'd make him prove he's healthy and can hit this year. Say what you will about "late bloomers" but they're the perfect deal for a budget conscious team: get his prime years on a rookie contract, them let him walk in his early 30s.
