  1. Weird. But the good coaches always leave. That's how it works. Trying to stay positive on this one. That, and I know nothing about collegiate baseball.
  2. Wait, are y'all saying math is boring to watch?
  3. Disagree, but I think arguing semantics about the definition of a blowout is silly. Bringing in a position player in this scenario is akin to a forfeit. The Dodgers were not trying to win at this point. That is how I would personally define a blowout.
  4. I wonder if DH or backup catcher might be a deadline acquisition. Put Sanchez at C1, send Jeffers to AAA to find his bat. Get a quality C2. That would free DH for others. It's probably really a question as to what the FO thinks of Jeffers' defense right now and it overshadows some of his struggles. Because to ironically reference the concept of this whole discussion, I do think Jeffers is the kind of prospect who needs daily/regular AB.
  5. I think the real debate here is: Is Miranda a top prospect or an "average" prospect? The OP, for example, compares Miranda to Lewis. I do not see Miranda at that level.
  6. Alternate take: Miranda is performing better of late because the Twins are putting him in a position to succeed instead of just throwing him out there every day. As others have stated, he plays far more than 1-2 times per week. He'll get his chances. If he excels he'll play more.
  7. This only happens in blowouts. Which are boring and unwatchable well before they've brought in the position player to pitch.
  8. Such a silly rule. The only thing it affects, game-wise, is more rules. Teams will continue to run the AAA shuttle just as before. If anything, there is less job stability for pitchers through this rule. If a team wants a 3 person bench, that's their problem. Essentially the same position I take on the shift. Why not limit how many catchers a team carries too? Or DHs? Yes, Ohtani is great. But what makes a "legit" 2-say player? Matt Davidson? And why should some players get different rules than others?
  9. If they're up against Toronto, they'd better be trading for some vacc cards or half the team won't be there.
  10. This exactly. It only makes sense if you're replacing a borderline starter with a rare next-level talent (e.g. trading Doug M to get Morneau into the lineup). With Lewis healthy, that might have been the case at 3B but otherwise, just no.
  11. Save the reclamation projects for offseason moves. In-season moves need to be win-now.
  12. There's more than one way to be recognized.
  13. Eh, All Star Game and Hall of Fame are for the kids. Do I think Arraez deserves recognition for his year so far? Yes. Do I really care if he's a starter or even on the team...not so much.
  14. Other than Pineda, who is guaranteed to be on the IL every year, the others are all waiver wire depth pieces. This article actually makes me feel better about the team. (And I wish all the former Twins the best of luck. While some moves are obvious business moves, one never knows fully what motivates a free agent to sign somewhere, be it money, family, city, change of scenery, coaching etc.)
  15. I'd guess Buxton or Correa. It's a popularity contest. Arraez is a long shot to me because 1B tends to be loaded in the sexy offensive stats (HR/RBI).
  16. The best solution is to limit high leverage situations overall. The fact is that players get hot/cold. Hopefully Smith is better by Sept/Oct again. And the team adds or develops 2-3 more trustworthy arms who are hot at the right time. While I think the bullpen right now is stressful, to be polite, the past few seasons have had similar patterns of instability that slowly builds up by year end.
  17. Because the internet was invented so we can complain more, to strangers. Even about nice things.
  18. While I think this kind of article and "trade chains" are fun, the fact of the matter is that trades are supposed to benefit both sides. They aren't intended to be competitive and "won." I'm also surprised the Young/Garza trade was the first trade together in the two franchises' histories.
  19. Not gonna read the comments on this one. But best of luck to him and he seems, from distant observation, to be tenacious enough to come back stronger.
  20. The top 3 on here are all deserving, at present. Which probably sums up why they're in first place right now. Hopefully somebody else picks up the slack (e.g. Correa now as Buxton struggles) when the slumps inevitably come.
  21. This seems like an effort to brand this year's team to me. I don't find any of this particularly experimental or unique. I'm not sure what it means about the real FO plan, but I find it odd that media outlets seem to have forgotten about the lockout entirely, since it completely shifted the dynamic of offseason moves and planning. (A little off topic, but I had to say it somewhere...)
  22. It's good to have a swingman with options. And it's good to have too many worthy players. That's how you win over 162 games.
  23. What was the last Miranda AB like (HBP)? Only saw it on Gameday and the timing seemed...iffy.
