  1. The A's had Sam Fuld leadoff today and Danny Valencia bat cleanup. Think about that next time we're debating who our 4th outfielder should be.
  2. He's only been playing 7 innings per game, 5 games a week all month. It would be hard for him not to see that.
  3. Locker room celebrations for every significant win. First, to clinch, then the division, then the first round, then...save it for the end unless it's something crazy like Game 163. Related: tarp and goggles at a celebration. C'mon. Either be spontaneous or celebrate some other way. Who wants to party in a plastic room?
  4. It is possible he's not totally toast yet. His 2nd half is bad, but the past 15 years do tell a pretty clear story that he's always been a streaky player. I wouldn't argue against him on the roster as a 5th OF in 2016. Otherwise, well, not my preference. For those who want him as a coach, I'm curious: should they fire somebody else after a successful season? Can they add a new coach without removing one? I don't know the rules on that aspect of roster construction.
  5. How is not promoting somebody at their job akin to bullying?
  6. I'd take him next year in a Thome role: PH and 5th OF, but I don't think he'd play that infrequently or for that amount of $.
  7. I'd take him on a 1-2 year deal, maybe with the second year as a player option so Boras can use 2016 to rebuild value post-injury. Boras has been known to do 1 year deals to revisit the market later. If he costs a 1st round pick, prob not worth it. On the other hand, one of the key reasons nobody talks about for the 2011-2014 Twins record, I think, is that their draft picks were always in that #20-30 overall range, which in MLB is way spotty compared to #s 1-10. Maybe it's worth giving up an overall pick if their record moves the pick down enough. Knowing the Twins, I expect a Pat Borders, Henry Blanco or, at best, Mike Redmond pickup until Suzuki walks, but one never knows. The C FA market is damn near the CF one as far as bloated contracts for above replacement value starters.
  8. Great memories, and that list of 2009 pitchers is evidence that anything is possible and the 2015 bullpen can just maybe get it done.
  9. I think they give 3 general OF awards, not individual CF, LF, and RF. They used to do by position, back when Hunter was a Twin the first time. I feel like it changed shortly after he went to Anaheim.
  10. If the reason to trade him is because he's blocking talent, then how would trading him for another SP solve that problem? I don't see it happening. I think he's a Pelfrey, and is likely to come back at least as well as Pelf did, meaning as a mediocre back end starter. I'm not writing the checks, so I have no problem with that.
  11. Call-ups are based on performance, not on projections.
  12. The Twins with more XHB than the White Sox? What a strange year 2015 is.
  13. Why isn't this about the scouts? Do you think Terry Ryan is a benevolent dictator who ignores his assistants? Every quote I've ever read from the man suggests his assts have more say than he does. Kepler probably doesn't make the team worse, but he could. If he comes in and plays like Alex Meyer did, that definitely makes them worse. Do I expect that? No. But it could happen.
  14. Kepler immediately makes the team better...or worse. Of course, you don't know until you try it. I trust the Twins scouts. I know not everybody does. What's the roster situation in calling up Fryer. Does he have to be put back on the 40 man?
  15. Trade Plouffe if you get a good return. Don't trade him for the sake of making a trade. I would like to see Sano at 3B and next year's DH as a combination of the winner in a 3-way battle between Arcia, Vargas, and a free agent veteran signed to ideally be a PH option(/backup plan if the other 2 play like they did this year).
  16. I expect Fien to be back, unless he's injured, but in more of a middle relief role. The Twins tend not to cut ties with formerly reliable pieces until arb years are up.
  17. Anybody can close. It's not a position, relief pitcher is. That said, I don't think you trade Perkins now because he's one of the few reliable arms they have. Why trade from a weak position (relief pitcher)?
  18. Eh, responding to comments here instead of my own nightmare, which I think would be a Perkins serious injury or anything else to make the bullpen even less stable. -I have no problem with Hunter back as a playing coach who won't top 250 AB. Doubt he could sit still that much but it would also potentially improve the bench, replacing middle infielders with a bat. -I don't see a solution at C. I think best case is a platoon type acquisition so Suzuki plays 50-60% of the time instead of 6 days each week.
  19. What kind of prospect do people still think Milone can acquire? Sam Fuld again. No disrepect to Milone, but I think the market on his is pretty well defined at this point.
  20. It's been stated very clearly by the Twins that Pinto won't catch in 2015, right? No reason to keep suggesting that.
  21. Santana spent, what, 1 year in the NL?
  22. I didn't say anything about the Twins FO, but I find all the praise of Tampa's to be odd. It reminds me of Beane in OAK, in that he gets attn and wins games, but I don't see any rings or pennants as a result.
  23. It's a 162 game season. Yes, this month has been bad. But it's not the only month that counts. Teams have streaks, good and bad. the concensus across the state all season has been that, despite "being a playoff team" (whatever that means in 3 four months before the playoffs), this is not a post-season contender without a lot of luck.
  24. I'd take these posts more seriously about how great the Braves and Rays front offices are if they'd won anything in the recent post season. Or gotten to the post season for that matter.
  25. You may be right. It feels like they did the same thing 2-3 years ago, around when Black took over, but I could be wrong.
