  1. I'm with you man, I like him so much more than I thought I would.
  2. Not sure I agree. If a HEALTHY Buxton does not play against the Yankees, the Yankees chance of a sweep increase. He's not contributing much lately and I can't concretely know why not, but injury seems most reasonable. Celestino could conceivably have a better series in center than a hobbled Buxton. I think the team needs to do whatever is best to get Buxton back on track in the long run rather than base his usage on the team's current series.
  3. It's such a great problem to have. Couldn't be happier that Kirilloff is forcing his way into a crowd. That said, an injury or performance dropoff will create an opening. The team's about to open a series with the Yankees so I bet we're all about to feel a bit less confident about our deep, deep pool of thriving young position players.
  4. I’m not inclined to believe the full-on negative spin, but your thesis statement at the top convinces me you aren’t either. The points are well-made and most ring true. There is reason for concern. This could turn bad. I believe it is just a bad stretch and they’ll keep finding some mojo. This group has already had a lot of different contributors pick them up for spells. It’ll happen again.
  5. I mean- you’re going to pull him just 57 pitches into a start when he’s cruised through 5 innings? I don’t see him as a liability at all, but I think the team is managing his usage as if he is a liability. I don’t understand the plan and I don’t think I like it. At least I sure didn’t like it yesterday.
  6. That’s a pretty dang insightful reply. I appreciate it!
  7. For him to be a liability, you have to accept the following premises: 1) Archer cannot effectively pitch any deeper in a game than the 4 innings where management has capped him 2) More effective starters are available and missing an opportunity each time he starts Premise #2 may possibly present a problem at some point later this season, but with all the injuries and illness that have impacted the rotation this year I don't see how anyone could argue any deserving pitchers have been held back. Premise #1 is pretty tough to prove or disprove with how he's been managed. He's thrown between 61-79 pitches in each outing and has been pulled early regardless of results or game situation. They appear to be cautiously guarding him rather than making any attempt to stretch him out. I'm puzzled by the approach. Is the best-case hope to limit use early on, let him build steam and stretch him out late in the season in hopes he can be a trusted playoff starter? Are they just suppressing his usage as a starter so they can migrate him toward the bullpen? Do they simply have no trust in him? I for one would prefer a chance to see what his pitches 80-100 would look like.
  8. “Top prospect Lewis likely going on IL after hitting wall” This is why we can’t have nice things.
  9. I’m 100% all for Kiriloff staying at AAA for another few weeks and proving to himself and the team that he’s too good for that level. He’s played less than 25 career games at AAA. He can stay there a bit and gain confidence/build momentum. Lewis looked like a force with the big club. I want him back up now.
  10. This feels a few weeks premature to me. I think Kiriloff and Lewis are each most likely one injury from being back on the roster. Or they’re waiting to be swapped in place of Miranda, (or Larnach/Garlick if either slumps.) I could be wrong. Nick does seem a borderline mlb-type talent at this stage, but he seems like a well-liked, reliable contributor and speed is not just about base stealing.
  11. I'm deep in love with this team so I was going to bite the bullet and start a cable subscription, but the very cheapest option with Bally was $90 per month. I can't rationalize that. I instead decided that I'd watch all the innings I can at friends' homes and restaurants. I often have to pick up my daughter from the restaurant where she works, so I've been getting in the habit of arriving an hour early, buying a beer and sipping it over as many innings as I can stretch it. My plan is costing me less than $90 a month and it comes with beer!
  12. I was truly confused by the FO planning to rely on these two as part of their Plan A. As of right now, it looks like they saw and correctly evaluated both player's talent and readiness. I'm thoroughly impressed.
  13. I'd still rather have Sanchez and Urshela this year with no 2023 committments than Donaldson this year and next at $21 million annual. I think the Twins won this deal even if both Gio and Gary make sub-par contributions. I still feel the sting that they had to give up Garver to make this happen, but you should expect to pay a penalty like that almost every time you make a big free agent signing. Be careful what you wish for.
  14. I'm thankful no one was hurt but grumbling about the 5-1 deficit. It sure was ominous from my place. I can only imagine what those skies must have looked like from TF. Well, let's all go cut some tree limbs with the radio on at noon.
  15. You nailed it. Scoring enough to have a chance was going to be a tall task for a lineup that's shorted Buxton, Correa, Arraez. And with Sano and Kiriloff's bats and health going in the tank, they're already counting on young, unproven players to find a new stride in the bigs and that just isn't going to happen against Justin Verlander. It's going to be a tough series to scrape out a win.
  16. It's a heartbreaker. To me, he still looks like Frank Thomas in a uniform. He still looks like the guy I'd imagined he one day be back when he was a young prospect. I can still see all that potential and he turns just 29 tomorrow. He should be mid-prime. He's only produced like a star player in small bursts and when he's bad, he's awful. It really does feel like it is time to stop hoping and move on. This year was make-or-break. However it goes from here, there will be a bad aftertaste in my mouth. I wanted better for him.
  17. It sure is fun watching a winning team. This pitching staff has been such a pleasant surprise. Feels like Polanco deserves some special love for turning it on this week after a slow start. He slashed ,360/.414/,520 on the week. A really good development for this offense,
  18. Disagree. They gotta move Buxton to first so he doesn't get injured in center. Or maybe move Carlos Correa to first because he sure can pick it and you paid him for a reason. If the need is at first... On second thought, they should probably move Duran to first so he can impact more than just one or two innings, Or maybe just Let Arraez and Miranda do the job and keep Lewis where he belongs. Seriously, I hope Lewis becomes a force at SS in St Paul and gets enought innings in the OF to know if he can be a Buxton backup from time to time in coming years.
  19. Geez Brian, you hit that on the nose like a cookie from Charlie Leibrandt. I guess we'll see you tomorrow night.
  20. I sure hope Kiriloff can come back quickly and get his season going but his prolonged wrist problems worry me. Sano's updates have all been bad so far. Feels like his 2022 is going to be a wash. I'm excited to see what Miranda does with the opportunity. I was kind of hoping he'd be so productive at AAA that he'd force his way in rather than have an injury open a path, but here we are and I'm really excited for the guy.
  21. Predicting injury recovery is an inexact science at best, but the quotes and information I’ve read leave me with the impression Sano might be back at first before Kiriloff. They’ve already fixed Kiriloff’s wrist with one surgery and it’s still too painful to swing a bat without a cortisone shot? That seems like a big deal. I’m just hoping he can get his career back on track even if it takes a long rehab or another surgery.
  22. Velocity certainly isn't everything, but if it is trending downward, it will be key for him to keep developing his off-speed repertoire and become a smarter pitcher. Your article (and the early returns) seems to show that's been happening so far. Still, when I saw that headline (and mullet), at first glance I assumed you were writing about Joe Ryan. Ryan certainly has me feeling more confident as a "new sheriff" in the rotation. I'd be thrilled if Paddack were to put up a 120 inning season with a 4.15 ERA. I mean not enough to forget my disappointment at losing Rogers, but that's just because I'm a sentimental old guy.
  23. tony&rodney your faith in Kep sure is paying off at present. It's been fun to watch him proving you right this week. I've had hope this might come, but just hope, not faith. It changes this offense when Max is a productive offensive force. More of this please!
  24. For efficiency, I'm going to copy it now so I'm ready to just click 'paste' ?
  25. My eyes say you're right, but his actual quantifiable production always leaves me frustrated. I just can't figure how a player can consistently bring such a balanced, controlled, disciplined approach with his strength and speed and still seemingly underproduce at the plate year after year. Why isn't he more than just an average player? Is it hands, eyes, processor speed?
