  1. As a moderator on this site, please keep your comments to Simmons. This is not the same situation. One didn't affect the health and welfare of others and the same one was blackballed from working again. This is not at all the same thing and is a false equivalence. And we are not going down that rabbit hole. If you want to discuss Kaepernick's situation, go to the Current Affairs club and start a thread. Thanks.
  2. We do have a discussion thread on the Coronavirus if you want to get more in depth about that particular discussion, found in the Current Affairs club.
  3. So, Simmons has a right to his opinion, but Stu does not?
  4. His anti-vaccine stances were well-known prior to his contracting it and spreading it to his teammates. A lot of ifs in that, however, it's a decision between him and his doctor, and not one to be peddled on the internet
  5. I think the gist is if he were Steve Carlton great, then people would put up with it, it's not about believing him more
  6. Perhaps this was stated in one of the previous articles, but I was wondering how these rankings were done? How many of you weighed in on this?
  7. Thanks for sharing! I grew up in Winona ... Trempealeau isn't far from there ... we used to drive to the Trempealeau Hotel for dinner on occasion for some of their famous walnut balls!
  8. I love that we took 2 of 3 from the ChiSox ... even more so when they outscored us ... mwahahahaha

Yeah, we can pretend that Burrows game never happened!

Also, I have a notification that I am now being followed by a squirrel. What, am I carrying nuts on me or something? ?

  9. what a game to have missed. Damn work. Glad they stretched Ober out another inning ...
  10. Okay, so, it's not been a fun season ... but we obviously have a role as spoilers ... taking 3 of 4 from the Astros ... that's pretty fun

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a celebratory water, neat, in a not as clean as it should be water bottle! :)

  11. Geez ... I thought this was the game recap ... of a game we actually won!
  12. Always nicer to write up a win! Seems players somewhat made up for their misplays, but wish there were fewer of those. But in the end, can't complain about a win! (Well, some can, but I won't.) Thanks for joining the game thread today!
  13. I pretty much agree with this ... tweaking if there is movement. But if Oakland moves to LV, they will likely just stay in that league and division. And wherever the Rays move, most likely keeps them in the east, unless they move to Portland, OR. I think, in terms of location and trying to create a group that has natural rivalries, the AL West division is the worst, but nothing really you can do about it. All the other divisions, in both leagues, work fairly well in terms of keeping teams close, but the AL West ... it's just 'Okay, the rest of you are here.' As I said, nothing you can do about it because Seattle is way up there, LAA is way over there, with OAK in between, and the two Texas teams are way down there, two time zones over. If they did do a realignment, and I think they could and maybe would, once a decision is made about the universal DH, maybe some of that could be alleviated, except for Seattle is still way up there, kind of by itself. If they don't/won't/can't address the disparity of wealth between teams, and location didn't matter, I'd like to see divisions created based on budget size and spending capabilities. Let the Dodgers and the Yankees be in the same division. But of course, it would be ridiculous because location does matter ... but this is a 'suspend reality' discussion.
  14. If you aren’t going to the universal DH this realignment probably won’t work. But yes, you can still have two leagues - 3 divisions in each as it is now except that one league will be the eastern half, the other league the western half. I mean, football has the nfc and the afc … not a football fan so have no idea what the differences are there
  15. I said this to you in a thread, but the Twins are in the same time zone as Chicago and Milwaukee. Cubs and Sox are already heated rivals. It would make things even worse if they were in the same division. I'd make it 6 divisions, though ... and you can still have 12 teams in the playoffs ... 2 from each division. 6 division as I'd do it: NE - Boston, NYY, NYM, Phila, Balt; SE - WashDC, Atl, Mia, Rays, Reds; MW-east - Cleveland, T'ronto, Pitts, Detroit, ChiSox (although that makes the ChiSox the only team in the central time zone); MW-west - Milwaukee, Cubs, MN, StL, KC; SW - Houston, TX, CO, AZ, SD; West - LAA, LAD, SF, Oak, Sea
  16. Well ... Syndegaard is coming off Tommy John surgery ... sort of ... just sayin' that it's possible if TJ recoverers are our target!
  17. @ashbury and @old nurse ... I kindly suggest you continue your discussion in PMs as you are getting off topic here. Thank you.
  18. If you see a penny in the street, do you stop and pick it up?

I do. Nickels and dimes as well. Pickens' have really dried up in the COVID season though. Even gas stations and drive thru lanes are bare!

Nope, but whomever they are/were, they aren't very *original* LOL.

  19. I can't love this comment, and most you make, enough. Thanks for being so reasonable with substance
  20. I get the frustration with pulling Ober, but as was pointed out to me in another conversation, Ober hasn't pitched more than 80 innings in a season, well, ever ... and missed all of last season ... so I get being cautious with him, too. Yeah, I would have liked to see him go one more inning, and really think they could have given him just one more, but I just can't be overly upset with it, either. That said, I'm not sure how the pen was mismanaged last night? I mean ... they gave up zero runs. Maybe that's luck, given the pen blowups this season, but for them to give us 5 innings without giving up a run ... I can't really call that mismanaged.
  21. Pineda maybe, probably ... but I don't think there was any market for Simmons; and I think with Donaldson, people were likely looking for the Twins to take on too much of the salary for not enough return. There are reasons to pull the trigger and reasons not. But with Simmons, I don't think there was anything on the table, at all for him, so no trigger to pull or not.
  22. I think they win the deadline because of the returns they got for who they traded. IMO, they made the correct decisions. I'm not upset they didn't trade who they didn't as there seemed to be plausible explanations for that ... no trade market for Simmons or Donaldson (although I'd rather keep Donaldson, at least for now, so that was a good non-trade for me). And they didn't trade Buxton. Not sure what I think of not trading Pineda but I'm more so-so on that now than I was initially. So, I think they won the deadline. Did they win the trades? That is too soon to tell.
  23. So, now we have no chance in 2022, at all? I mean, how can anyone say that at this point? We don't know who/what/where/when/how it will be yet in 2022. Let's wait to place definitive judgement on something a ways out yet ... and ... there may not be a 2022, depending on negotiations between MLB and the MLBPA. I get being disappointed in a favorite player being traded, unsigned, etc ... but this is part of the game. I'm actually more hopeful for next year than had they done nothing at this deadline.
  24. I think (hope) this was the thread you meant ... because I merged them
