  1. Sano is set at 3B, as is Polanco at SS. We need a professional bat at 2B, with a shorter term contract. We should spent or trade at 1B. I agree with the member who said he can't remember when the the infield was so up in the air. What I see is, we have players to trade, a farm system in the top 5, and more money to spend than we ever had. Don't stray too far from the board this off season, it's all going to get done.
  2. They got a MLB player for $100,000. I don't follow every other team and really don't care what they do. If the search committee had picked me, I would always take a rule 5 player. Always.
  3. Take a look at IFA. Few teams do as well as we do on a consistent basis.
  4. We had the most active off-season in franchise history last year. I expect more of the same.
  5. TR said on numerous occasions, anytime he went to the Pohlads with a request he always got it. For those who don't know, we got Sano because we were the only team that would take him, not knowing exactly how old he was at the time. The Pohlads are basically absentee owners. It could be worse.
  6. For $100,000 it's foolish not to take a rule 5 player. I haven't looked lately, but at one time Haley was on the best team in baseball. With us he was on the DL twice and couldn't seem to stay healthy. Injuries are part of the game, but the pick was a good one.
  7. That's because the organization sees the big picture. The draft is a lot more than just the first pick. What it does show, is taking starting pitching that high, is always a gamble.
  8. Injuries are part of the game. He didn't throw 100 innings in his first 3 years in the minors. Someone will take him.
  9. I would take Greinke over last off season's Darvish 10 times out of 10. Any team doing a full rebuild would drool looking at our farm system.
  10. Reed has had too good of a career not to rebound. My biggest problem with Molly was overusing certain relievers. I think the pen is still a mess, even though we made solid moves last off season. We have decent starting pitching depth, and on my wish list is to package several, and get a 2/3 we can slot ahead of Berrios, Gibson, and Pineda. Also, I'm hoping Gibson or Pineda perform so well, they earn QO's.
  11. Any 2 of those 4 would be fine with me. We need to add 2 bombers. At this point in time we can't gamble Sano will become the player we hoped he would.
  12. That every other team is looking to get younger is a myth. What they are looking to do, is win more games. I like the move for Cruz.
  13. I agree. May pitched himself back into the mix, but no more than that.
  14. All of our writers except one or 2, predicted we would make the play-offs last season.
  15. If I'm not mistaken the team was .500 after May 1. We need to move some pieces around, but contending in 2019 is more than likely. Talk of rebuilding again makes no sense to me, nor does pointing toward 2020 and beyond. We have players to trade, a top 5 farm system, and as much money available as we have every had. There's nothing to wait for. Let's not forget, our last off season was the busiest ever and we followed that up with our busiest ever trade deadline.
  16. Early in the 2017 season, our Twins were the second youngest team in all of baseball, based on weighted playing time. It was posted right here.
  17. If two picks become contributors it is considered a successful draft. BA grades drafts.
  18. It wasn't a stretch though. The week before the draft he was rated as high as 3rd. Any time you can find a lefty that throws 96-98 it's a no brainer to take him. It was unlucky he pitched less than 100 innings, in his first 3 seasons.
  19. Right now the key is how well Buxton and Sano perform next season. With Cave we have a reasonable plan B for Buxton. We need to get the checkbook out to find a Plan B for Sano. One of the distressing things about Sano is he appears to be injury prone. It's too early to David Ortiz him, but we can no longer count on the 30-40 bombs and 90-100 RBI'S many of us predicted.
  20. Were you impressed by Gibson's, May's, or Berrios' first 2 or 3 games? The ship has sailed on May being a starter.
  21. I'd love to hear your argument. Note, circa 2009, BA did a long article by their standards on how a mid-market team rebuilds. It's pretty much what TR did. Tear down, play for draft choices, don't encumber yourself with long term commitments, etc. Also, BA said the minimum time required would be 6 years. TR had them in the hunt in less than 4. Another also, Theo and TR took over at the same time. They had identical records from 2012-2014. The Cubbie faithful were not real happy that Theo took a mid-market approach, which just happened to be was similar to TR's.
  22. 10 years? At the break in 2011 we were in the hunt. As we were in 2015, and in 2017 we were the first team in history to make the play-offs after losing 100 games. Most people believe we will contend in 2019 and in this case most people are right.
  23. But they are not rebuilding in any way, shape, or form. TR started the rebuild as soon as he got on board towards the end of 2011 and had us in the hunt by 2015.
  24. I've always liked Starlin Castro, and wouldn't mind getting Escobar back. That said we have much more pressing issues.
  25. Howie baseball is a great marketing slogan!
