    I know draft position doesn't count for as much in baseball as in football and basketball but it's gotta count for something. From 2012 to 2015 we drafted 2, 4, 5 & 6. We've got Buxton & Gordon to show for that and it took Gordon 7 years to reach the big leagues. The only thing the current regime has to show for their first round picks are 136 games of an injured Larnach with 12 home runs and a .226 batting average and Sonny Gray. They have developed some pitching but nothing of a high end nature. Disappointing to say the least.

    Farm system rankings are very subjective. I've seen our ranked in the middle and I've seen it ranked top 10.

    Maybe the 71 Orioles. But nobody after the first four starters won more than six games.

    Would not be the least bit surprised to see him back and contributing in the post-season. Baseball's a funny game sometimes. Sometimes you've to expect the unexpected.

    Actually I'd say the prospect pool is fairly similar now to what it was then. The difference has been the performance of the major league team--at least until the playoffs. Of course I would be remiss to fail to mention that a good portion of the on field performance of the big league club can be attributed to folks brought on board by the previous regime. Just sayin. What will truly be interesting going forward is what impact changes to the draft and minor league systems will have on prospect pools of the various teams.

    One thing we don't do around these parts is factor in leadership and attitude. That's why a certain purple team whose TEs on this year's roster had a combined 9 NFL catches last year sat on it's hands while a guy with the 12th most TD catches by a TE in the history of the league and a great reputation as a leader signed with another team. That's why the same team saw a handful of it's un-vaccinated "leaders" miss time with Covid last year. Same team will see another one of it's leaders on the other side of the line of scrimmage when the Cowboys come to town in November. That team will probably stumble to another rudderless 8 win this year. I know, I digress from the team at hand. However, I've seen the team at hand play with a lack of heart this year and last while a certain Eddie (and Ehire) won a World Series in Atlanta last year. The stuff you can't measure matters. Somebody should tell the decision makers around here.

    I'd love to see us offer him a longer term deal but nothing more than 5 years.

    I see Verlander taking a short term deal with someone but don't see the Astros allowing that team to be anyone but the Astros.

    Unless the starter with a year and a half of team control that you traded away for two guys stuck in AA signs a contract that he would have jumped at had YOU offered it to him.......

    So wrong. Seems like only a year ago we traded away our best starter for a couple of AA guys who remain AA guys to this day. Somebody's gotta get fired for this week.

    Prospects are suspects until they're not. I've said for weeks that most fans would either be underwhelmed by what happens at the deadline or stunned at the cost. Not underwhelmed.

    Had they offered him the contract he signed in Toronto I have no reason he would not have signed it here.

    Liam Hendricks was at one time a waiver wire pickup. Relievers are fickle. Many /most? are failed starters.

    Not quite sure what world Urshela & Sanchez can be called second stringers in. OK, technically Jeffers has caught two more games than Sanchez but, counting DH, Sanchez has 92 more PA than Jeffers so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Sanchez is NOT a second stringer.

    Four guys who can help and didn't give up Lewis, Canterino, Woods-Richardson, Martin, Wallner, Jose Rodriguez, Balazovic or Varland.
