  1. I was at the game, which was sparsely attended by an enthusiastic crowd. The Twins have a late-inning video to fire up the crowd. The soundtrack is “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes which includes the lyrics - “I’m going to Wichita.” Are Twins players likely to be fired up to go to Wichita (demoted to AA to play for the Wind Surge)?
  2. Playing in the City of Minneapolis. What could go wrong? or Maybe Excel Energy is just showing mercy to the Twins fans.
  3. I’m optimistic that this will be another fun year of watching Twins baseball. There will be JOY in Mudville. But HOPE is another thing!!!
  4. Sorry, I don’t see the analogy. This year, there was no attempt to acquire a veteran starter like Ervin Santana, not to mention Big Sexy Bartolo Colon. There is no core like Buxton-Mauer-Dozier. The 2017 version of Taylor Rogers was a legit closer with Ryan Presley behind him in the pen. The 2026 season looks like a season where this team is transitioning to a new generation of players. I’m excited to see who among Jenkins, Rodriguez, Gonzalez and the young starters can contribute. Hopefully, Wallner and Lee can take big steps to improve and Keaschall turns into an all-star. BUT - Opening Day Optimism creating any hope of a playoff appearance is illogical. I know anything can happen - just not that.
  5. Bingo - Unless the band Spinal Tap starts to influence the ratings, then the top score will be 81. Or would that be 85? Are these always in 5 point increments?
  6. The Twins have posted the 26 man roster at mlb.com Tristan Gray makes team as utility infielder, Zak Kent and Cody Lawyerson as the final relievers. For now!
  7. I see 2026 as a transitional year that probably will be disappointing for the fans. But it’s all about 2027 and 2028. The Twins hopefully will get a majority of owners to join them in 2027 to play hardball in the upcoming labor strife. MLB absolutely needs a salary cap. That and other adjustments can make the league more competitive for the small and midmarket teams. Wouldn’t it be great to see the Yankees as the MLB equivalent of the NFL NY Giants??? After that year of labor strife and a reduced or completely canceled mlb schedule, the Twins should hope to return in 2028 with a roster of rising young stars who are in a system where this franchise has a better shot at competing.
  8. I’m concerned about defense in the first half of this season. However, when Jenkins and/or Rodriguez arrive, the outfield defense will improve. Put Buxton and one of those two to cover the big territory in Center and Left Field, and Wallner’s defense in Right Field is less of a problem, especially since he has big arm to keep runners from advancing an extra base. Bringing up a shortstop (Culpepper or Houston) will allow the Twins to move Brooks Lee to a utility role or to 3B if Royce Lewis continues to falter. In the future, defense should improve. First base and to a lesser extent Catcher will continue to be defensive liabilities throughout the season.
  9. I know some don’t like my answer above. HOWEVER - Read C4’s account. I’m glad he “survived” but his own account of the events does not sound like he has the midseason, health one would expect from a professional athlete. Or he is simply a bad swimmer. Or maybe, this story was exaggerated a little to provide a more inspiring effect related to his faith. Moreover, I am very familiar with Lake Minnetonka and there are factual reasons to question his account.
  10. There are options which would be better than a poor performing Royce Lewis. I accept that he will start the season with the MLB squad. If he underperforms, BETTER options couid include moving. Brooks Lee to 3rd and Kaelen Culpepper or Marek Houston taking over at SS.
  11. Royce Lewis is at the top of the list of Yellow Flags (warning!!) on the expected roster. He is followed by Bailey Ober and Trevor Larnach. Those three hopefully show some proficiency in the final Spring Training games.
  12. Yep. Keep Outman AND Roden (unless Mothra and Godzilla are available). Maybe we can get the proverbial bucket of balls for Larnach.
  13. I’m not saying the upside is mediocre. I’m saying that currently this rotation can only be ranked as mediocre at best. Abel, Bradley and the abundance of young arms gives great hopes for an upside which may or may not be realized. I think you are overly optimistic on Bailey Ober, however. I hope you are right!
  14. I’m hoping this is all just a “grand plan” to stink in 2026, cash in at the deadline to load up on more youthful talent; give that talent some experience during the few months of the 2027 mostly lost season (MLB work stoppage), and finally starting a new dynasty of excellence in 2028. Meanwhile, attendance plummets at Target Field, except for a few Die Hards complaining about the “Cheap Pohlads” and other anonymous owners - who somehow will be show that they had it all figured out. Contenders in 2028, and World Series Winners in 2029 and for a decade of dynasty beyond.
  15. I expect some here to press for Lucas Giolito to sign. But it’s pretty clear that this is the starting rotation and it looks mediocre at best (but the abundance of ready and near-ready young arms is a big wild card!) Joe Ryan is an all-star quality starter. One has to admire SWR as a back ender. He is a bulldog, in my opinion, with the ability to keep his head in the game even when there is some adversity (errors extending innings for example). Then there are the talented young pitchers, Abel and Bradley. If one falters, there are other young pitchers waiting in AAA (Matthews. Morris, Prielipp and more…). The big question mark is Bailey Ober - but that question is quickly becoming an answer and that answer is NO. I believe he may add a little velocity if he pitched fewer innings out of the bullpen. Overall, this is a mediocre rotation with some upside if the young pitchers excel, and downside if they falter. The bullpen is below league average (which is better than the disaster that played out during the final weeks of the 2025 season). This appears to be a defensively challenged team, but even that poor defense is better than the pathetic offense displayed during Spring Training. I am very pessimistic about my chances of cashing in my 100 to 1 Vegas bet that the Twins win the World Series. Take the under of 73.5 games.
  16. What is the over-under on the number of days remaining in Trevor Larnach’s MLB career. He is not hitting well and his defense is suspect as well
  17. A disaster in the bullpen would be one anchored by Cole Sands, Travis Adams, Kody Funderburk, Justin Topa and Pierson Ohl. The Twins have improved upon just those who were left after the deadline last season.
  18. There are reasons to be less pessimistic. I’m encouraged to see some veterans brought in like Hendricks and Rogers. I like the addition of more left handers. Meanwhile, there are a number of starters like Ober and Festa who can bolster the bullpen. I’m not saying the Twins will have the best bullpen in MLB but it’s not the disaster I expected after last year’s fire sale at the deadline.
  19. Meanwhile, Liam Hendrix looked pretty good. Looks like the Twins will be able to rebuild the bullpen as a strength, but this starting rotation is more challenged than expected. And the line up looks anemic. Is my opinion that excessive?
  20. How many slo-mo, Bruce Chen types succeed as starters. Move Bailey to the pen.
  21. Yes, that is a legitimate way to feel about starting pitcher careers (reassessing the importance of wins). Yet, I have been to Cooperstown, and I support the current “small hall”. I don’t want years where there are 10 inductees. It’s great to go there and recognize all the names. Why create a “who’s that dude” HOF? Bad idea!
  22. And Cory Lewis is hurt despite being a knuckle-ball pitcher. If thrown right, that pitch is viewed as putting less strain on an arm. Does Cory Lewis throw it correctly? Don’t ask me.
  23. This bullpen needs the honor and discipline that only the first KLINGON in MLB can bring. I predict thatthis season, the Twins will elevate that KLINGON. Jarrett Whorff, to the MLB bullpen. He will have to improve on his ERA over 5.5 last season. Make it so!
