  1. But the Twins Klingon pitcher, Jarrett Whorff, gave up ZERO runs. It’s time to promote to MLB a man with a Klingon sense of honor. Go Whorff.
  2. Twins fans have been spoiled with above-average to stellar fielding First Basemen over the past 40 years: Hrbek, Mientkiewicz, Morneau, Mauer, and most recently Santana. There will be a fan mutiny if a klutz is playing most of the games at 1B. Internal options at least had some hope of developing into at least an average fielder at 1B. Ty France has been around too long to expect him suddenly to transform himself into something he has never been. At a million bucks, the Twins can use him at DH or a sub at 1B. Rocco, however, seems to have already slotted France into the starting role. I see London, I see France …
  3. For you Trekkies - apparently the Twins’ Klingon prospect, Jarret Whorff, didn’t get an invite to MLB Spring Training. He had a taste with the AAA Saints. Could he be the first Klingon player in MLB this season???
  4. The time has come - How the heck does one pronounce “Keaschall”???? Unfortunately, there is no mention of Luke by the announcers from the opposing team in the clip provided above.
  5. For those of us who have the regional sports channels via cable or satellite: Will the Away Games broadcasts of opposing teams be blacked out?
  6. Durán appears to be slipping to me, albeit slipping from a very high level. This would seem to be a classic “sell-high” opportunity if another team is willing to give a little bit more than you described.
  7. Actually, NBC Sports ranked all of the available free agents (including a few from Japan). #54 - Carlos Santana #76 - Max Kepler #112 - Kyle Farmer (Dead Last - I guess being a great guy in the clubhouse is not a quality that is valued that much). Former Twins include #103 Jorge Lopez, and #50 Jorge Polanco (just covering those named Jorge). Maybe just maybe we value our players too highly in our own minds!!!
  8. The Twins need Jovani Moran to contribute as a needed lefty in the pen. It wouldn’t hurt to add another lefty in the offseason.
  9. Brusdar Graterol (Dodgers) to miss half of next season after shoulder (labrum) surgery.
  10. As he progressed thru the minors, AK looked like he would be a major league hitting machine. But it’s not only about ability but also about durability.
  11. The Twins should have a wall dedicated to accomplishments and history of the Washington Senators. There must be some memorabilia in storage. First in War, First in Peace, Last in the American League.
  12. Anyone down there see the Spring Training facilities and ballpark? ESPN mentions that the Red Sox facility has minimal damage.
  13. I propose Nvidia’s Jensen Huang. Then if the team stinks, Nvidia can use its artificial intelligence to make us believe the team is great.
  14. I’m old enough to remember Calvin Griffith selling the team to Carl Pohlad. Pohlad was a clear improvement. I didn’t like the contraction threats, but he helped get Target Field built. The sons and grandson were willing to spend some bucks to bring in Josh Donaldson and Carlos Correa. They paid the price to keep Joe Mauer here. Indeed, I don’t remember many home-grown superstars being let go due to monetary concerns I understand some just don’t like billionaires and multi-millionaires. But as the Twins hit the market, we all should hope for the most extravagantly free-spending billionaire alive to buy this team. I hope that upcoming uber-rich owner is the type of guy or gal who buys more yachts and houses than one would ever need - AND will also spend much more on this team than would ever be economically sensible.
  15. I just thought someone should bring it up. The Washington Star reported: ”Washington’s stout-hearted gladiators rose from the forlorn ruins of crumbling hopes and crushed the mighty Giants in the twelfth inning of the greatest contest in the history of the game.” Walter Johnson unexpectedly came out in the 9th and pitched 4 innings of shutout-out ball. Was that winning ball hit to 3B an error or a bad hop? Who knows? But it was a great moment for the franchise and commemorated this year by Senators’ pennants flying above the right field stands, a World Series 1924 logo in right field, and a meager display in the concourse of the second deck. That franchise didn’t win another World Series until 63 years later in 1987. And the final play was also a ground ball to 3B, but Gaetti fielded that one cleanly and threw to Hrbek for the final out.
  16. One problem, it always was clear that hometown announcers were discouraged from criticizing their own team. With MLB in charge, will they now extend to the opposing team, indeed all teams and MLB itself????
  17. Dish is set to merge with Directv. From another source, I learned that the Twins announced that the games would still be available on Cable and Satellite TV. Hurray for old guys like me who never stream (at least without a dose of prostate medications).
  18. I think AK has the potential to be another Rooker or at least Randy Bush (mentioned earlier - a backup corner OF who can also play some at 1B and DH). For $1.8 million, AK should be given an off-season to get healthy and let’s see how he is by Spring Training. If his back and wrists are not getting better, then it’s time to part ways. All of this presumes the current medical reports don’t show a hopeless situation.
  19. Pete Rose had a better career than Shoeless Joe.
  20. The other guy who hit more than 4000 career hits (Ty Cobb) was arguably not such a great person as well. Like Cobb, Charlie Hustle should go into the HOF. Sooner better than later.
  21. This season is less disappointing than most of the others listed because it can be explained away by injuries and youth. The Twins for much of the season over-achieved during periods where core players were injured. It gave a chance for three rookie pitchers to get their feet wet. The return of Joe Ryan and continuing development of their young pitchers, add in Andrew Morris, Cory Lewis …, and the debut of E-Rod should fuel some optimism for the future. The slow start and the late collapse were quite frustrating but massive despair is unwarranted.
  22. I attended this disaster at Target Field, and the Kyle Farmer 1-2-3 inning was the best of the few Twins highlights. He tipped his cap to his former teammates and then to the fans. it was an entertaining moment.
  23. One of our TV announcers commented that Byron lives in The Matrix.
