  1. I’m glad that the Twins had a fireworks show, after and DURING the game. The only laser shows were the ones thrown by their pitchers. Can we cancel the all-star break and keep this going?
  2. If Buxton and Correa start to have a positive offensive impact on this team, there will be no need to add an offensive player (except maybe a Right-handed corner outfielder). If they don’t, then there is equally no need (meaning they shouldn’t have been buyers anyway). They can’t sell when they are in or even near first place in the division. Instead of acquiring a reliever, the Twins should look to moving starters to the pen for the 2nd half and hopefully the playoffs. Think of the options they have - Maeda, Dobnak, Keuchel, Varland, Winder. One of those is the fifth starter, but the rest are prime candidates to bolster the bullpen. Caleb Thielbar should be back at some point too.
  3. Carlos Correa is leading off???? Why??? Since it’s a rain delay, I’m going to go see the poorly reviewed Indiana Jones movie. The Twins have a better chance of being good. But I’m a sucker, I guess with both!!!
  4. This is not the time to adjust the coaching staff. That is in the off-season (unless the team gets to 3rd place or 5 games under .500).
  5. Maybe Shortstop is no longer a position to invest in a longterm contract. Take a look at this year’s mediocre to poor production from Francisco Lindor, Javier Baez, Xander Bogaerts and Trea Turner. I liked the re-signing of Correa thinking about last September’s production (or was that just “garbage time” to use an NBA term?). The division looked weak and the times didn’t seem to call for a slower and steadier rebuilding. But in retrospect, the Twins have an abundance of promising shortstop prospects - Royce Lewis looks like he’s halfway to being a future star and leader. already. Kyle Farmer, a starting SS last year with the Reds, was already on board. AND maybe just maybe the Twins should have thought that they weren’t so much smarter than the Giants and the Mets (who are doing better with their overpriced, but merely mediocre shortstop Lindor). Now those Shortstop prospects are blocked long-term and the Twins May have to hope they can hoodwink another team into taking on a Josh Donaldson (or worse) type of player. Best case scenario - it’s just foot pain and Correa returns to superstar form when it goes away. He’s still a great defender.
  6. He probably deserves a bit more than a footnote if comments here. But he was pretty mediocre here in 1987. But I that staff, mediocre was needed.
  7. At this point: They don’t need Duvall. They don’t need Gallo. They don’t need Kepler. They don’t need Garlick. The Twins need to bring up Matt Wallner from AAA.
  8. I’m more excited that Randy Dobnak looked good during his last start.
  9. I recommend the acclaimed native Minnesota restaurant, Owamni. It just reopened. Look it up online.
  10. Looks like Jorge Lopez is the 4th MLB player to be placed on the mental health list. Former Twin Trevor May is another one of the four.
  11. He is the number one Twins player who has exceeded expectations on a team full of players who are not even meeting expectations (Buxton, Correa, Kepler, Jorge Lopez, Maeda, Vasquez, Miranda, Gordon - I’m sure I missed some). Others exceeding expectations:: Castro, Farmer,Brock Stewart, Duran, Gray, Ryan, Ober, DeLeon. Again, I’m sure I’ve missed some, but I’m not including some who have met expectations (Kirilloff, Taylor, Lewis, Julien, Jeffers).
  12. I attended yesterday’s game. The Twins won and it was still misery. Hazy should be left to Hazy IPAs.
  13. How about Christian Vasquez and a 4-10 ranked prospect (and throw in a lottery pick prospect) for SALVADOR PEREZ. Unfortunately, he is a fan fave in KC. He appears on Car Dealership commercials. Their fan base would react negatively. I don’t think the Twins should bid for Chapman ;although it will be entertaining to see some of the same people here who opposed going after Trevor Bauer support trading for Aroldus Chapman.. By the way, Bauer’s stats in Japan are NOT good, but he’s coming back from long layoff and injury.
  14. Small tweaks is all they should do. The Twins can’t do anything with Correa and Buxton - they made a substantial investment and should see it through. I expect that Correa will improve and Buxton will return from his most recent freak injury soon and be productive. Otherwise, the Twins should improve this offense through small tweaks: committing to Jeffers as the #1 catcher with Vasquez moving to #2, bringing up Matt Wallner to DH and playing corner outfield, slowly transitioning Buxton to play Center Field (more and more and then exclusively in the playoffs), dumping Max Kepler (unless there is miraculous improvement, by the way it’s not happening) … Maybe there is a trade out there to improve the bullpen - but at some point Maeda and Thielbar will be added to the pen - so simple patience will help improve the pen.
  15. After yesterday’s debacle, I understand the pessimism. Still, with Joe Ryan and Sonny Gray pitching two of the three games, there is some good reason to doubt the rampant pessimism.
  16. Interesting story. However, if he pitches lousy, it will still get brutal here. At least, disgruntled Twins fans are still nicer than the fans in NYC and Philly.
  17. Eddie Bane, Willie Banks and Pat Mahomes were all destined to be aces in the Twins rotation. But not in reality. I like the Twins picking versatile, position players high in the draft (shortstops!!!). Catchers are another position to be given higher priority.
  18. Many years ago, in reference to another disappointing player, a fan once said, “At least Ron Davis took kids fishing!”
  19. Jon Rauch was a 6’10” American player. I suggested that he use for his walk-up, “I Stand Tall” by The Dictators. Meanwhile, Jose Miranda has the dullest walk-up music since that boring drivel Joe Mauer used for walk-up music. Wait - Shouldn’t Jhoan Duran use a Duran Duran song - another team in town already used Hungry Like the Wolf. I looked through the Duran Duran Playlist and found a song called Big Time (except edit out the line “bang it out”). Pretty good.
  20. I went to the Saturday game donning my college hockey jersey (not the GOOFERS). I was the guy yelling “Go Quinnipiac” at everyone in Goofer Gear. The Big Ten (the Little Six plus One!) messed up college hockey and I will always cheer against any of their teams The baseball game was fun too. Hope the Twins aren’t snake-bit in the injury front.
  21. I thought Spring Training is a place for players to show their skills to the front office and managerial staff who decide how build a team out of those players. Maeda has shown that his skills are not back to what they were. Put him in the pen and start Bailey Ober. Now - What about Tyler Mahle?
  22. I should never have doubted Israel. The ghosts of Hank Greenberg and Sandy Koufax are turning me into a pillar of salt.
  23. Before we get real excited, DeLeon was pitching against Team Israel. Let me know if I’m wrong about Israel, but I would think Taiwan and Israel probably edged out Team Botswana and Team Fiji Islands to make it to this tournament.
