  1. I went to the Saturday game donning my college hockey jersey (not the GOOFERS). I was the guy yelling “Go Quinnipiac” at everyone in Goofer Gear. The Big Ten (the Little Six plus One!) messed up college hockey and I will always cheer against any of their teams The baseball game was fun too. Hope the Twins aren’t snake-bit in the injury front.
  2. I thought Spring Training is a place for players to show their skills to the front office and managerial staff who decide how build a team out of those players. Maeda has shown that his skills are not back to what they were. Put him in the pen and start Bailey Ober. Now - What about Tyler Mahle?
  3. I should never have doubted Israel. The ghosts of Hank Greenberg and Sandy Koufax are turning me into a pillar of salt.
  4. Before we get real excited, DeLeon was pitching against Team Israel. Let me know if I’m wrong about Israel, but I would think Taiwan and Israel probably edged out Team Botswana and Team Fiji Islands to make it to this tournament.
  5. That article is so positive (even as qualified), it’s probably destined to be the kiss of death to Miranda’s career. Should have exercised your Miranda right to remain silent.
  6. There is a recent former Cy Young Award winner that you didn’t include on your list. Available on the cheap. Maybe the Twins are trading some of their starting pitching depth, but it doesn’t make much sense to add an additional arm to the abundant pitching they now possess. Go with what they have.
  7. I just want to know if the other guy was a marshmallow salesman.
  8. There is so much talk here about trading for a relief pitcher or signing one of the remaining free agents. Like Winder, others on this list should be considered for relief roles. Randy Dobnak and Cole Sands are likely additions to that list.
  9. Austin Martin made a real. Ice offensive play on a ground ball in the first.
  10. I did correct my answer to include Billy Martin but it somehow got deleted. Maybe because I mentioned a particular recently pugnacious Twins minor leaguer. Don’t Know. But I would add the Marshmallow Salesman too.
  11. I plan to see a Yokohama Sena Baystars game in May (against the Hiroshima Toyo Carp). I wonder if Fernando Romero will be on the roster for a 3rd year. If he is I will give a Romero update.
  12. If he makes the team, add Jordan Balazovic as another Honorable Mention. That reminds me, I left out Billy Martin. Replace any of my original four with that former manager who was a more excitable guy than even Warren Zevon.
  13. Excitability and intensity Rushmore: : 1. Dan Gladden 2. Juan Berenguer 3. Ron Gardenhire 4. Doug Mientkiewicz (honorable mention: Sergio Romo)
  14. Health is important but Buxton is still the Barometer for this team’s success the more health games played by Byron, the better the results.
  15. OK - Good point. Let’s bat Austin Martin. lead-off. By the way, if he makes it to the big leagues, he could have the coolest car name in the history of the Twins - Almost an Aston Martin with a little Austin-Healey mixed in.
  16. Actually, getting on first and stealing second is better than a double, because it distracts the pitcher. It’s worse to the extent that the runner is thrown out. On base percentage still matters.
  17. I would take Cleveland’s starting pitching over the Twins. When a ball club can trot out an ace two out of five days that trumps DEPTH, especially in the post season.
  18. It the disappointing reports on AK are accurate, THEN later this year, I’d rather see Miranda at 1B once Lewis or Lee can take over 3B (or Correa moves to 3B while one of those players takes over SS). Gallo looks like a place holder (at 1B or LF) unless he lights up Target Field. I have somewhat low expectations for that but I’m willing to see
  19. Joe deserves to get in. He did what no catcher had done since the thirties, and then repeated it. Yes, he had boring walk-up music, boring interviews, many years with less than desirable power - But overall, he should be a shoe-in.
  20. The addition of Pablo Lopez, young ready pitchers plus starters returning from injury gives the Twins a deep rotation. There is no need to trade valued prospects for a short-term addition at this juncture. I had been supporting signing Bauer for the MLB minimum, but the Twins now have enough starting talent for this year. Use some of the excess left-handed outfielders, shortstop prospects (not named Lee or Lewis) to trade for quality pitching prospects to stock the minors. I want the Twins ranked in the Top Three minor league systems so we continue to see winning baseball for the next 7 years.
  21. I looked at the Marlins blog. The most notable thing is that Lopez is viewed as injury prone with a bum right shoulder. Last year was the first year where he did not lose time to that injury. The reaction from Marlins fans is mostly negative, thinking they gave up too much with the two prospects, especially Salas. They think the Marlins needed more power than Arraez will offer.
