  1. You got it right. The 1987 team turned it on in the playoffs. They still are ranked #4 by me. They were benefited by a rib cage injury to St Louis 3B Terry Pendleton, which limited him to a DH role or not being in the lineup at all. Pendleton had been playing his best season till he was hurt. My rankings: 1991 - 1965 - 1969 - 1987 - 2019 - 2006 - 1970 - 2023 - 2009 - 2010 Honorable mentions - 1977, 1967 and 1962
  2. Pablo Lopez was an all-star last year - he is the current Ace. But the Twins need more if they want to be able make a run in the playoffs (I know - let’s get there first). They need a solid 1-2-3 to face the 1-2-3 pitchers of other playoff caliber teams. They need improvement from current pitchers (Ober, Ryan …). Adding a stud pitcher would help. Adding a 4-5 level player does nothing that internal options don’t already address.
  3. There were an abundance of “Bring Billy Back” bumper stickers. The fans were ticked off over the firing. In retrospect, Billy Martin was a combustible personality who probably would have worn out his welcome with more sedate Minnesotan fans if he had stayed. He had difficulties as a headache for Yankee owner George Steinbrenner in New York.
  4. Teams are realizing that baseball is a sport played best by players in their prime (ages 26-31). Justin Verlander, Nelson Cruz and others who excelled as they aged into their thirties are aberrations. So - Why sign a player likely to decline, just because he has been good in his prime in the past? Why even sign a player for one or two seasons in those prime years, if the team will be on the hook for three seasons where performance (and durability) is likely to decline? The big market teams can risk these moves, because they can afford to limit, bench or release their former stars. Here in a mid to small market area, we will be left for years watching those stars who become stiffs. I prefer relying on player development and resorting to free agency to fill in gaps or when there is a tremendous “bargain” (but be careful on the latter).
  5. Jason Tyner should also have been included as one if the piranhas
  6. This awful nickname that nobody uses in MINNESOTA is IGNO- MINNY - OUS. NO MORE MINNY!!!!!!!
  7. It’s going to come to baseball. Let the Twins know - No calling Minnesota or Minneapolis by the attrocious out-of-State nickname “Minny” (or Minnie). . Currently, it’s used mostly by hockey players, coaches and announcers (who are not from Minnesota). I just got off of a flight where the pilot referred to MSP Airport as “Minny”. Target Field already sells soft drinks using the WRONG moniker “SODA” instead of using the correct slang term -“POP”! Don’t let baseball types say Minny. Minny (Minnie) in baseball is Minoso and that’s it. end of rant!!!!
  8. The problem with counting down rather than up? We don’t get to debate whom was left off the list.
  9. That was a fun but frustrating season. It could have been so much better. The Seventies were a mediocrity because Gene Mauch squeezed his limited-talent teams for as many wins as he could get. Those years could have been so much worse.
  10. I apologize. I was indeed a Muskies and Pipers fan in my youth. I should have remembered the ABA Kentucky Colonels. I should have clarified cities that have not had a big league team (Basketball, Hockey, Baseball, Football) post-1950. Thanks for the correction.
  11. What metropolitan area is most deserves getting an MLb team, but has never had a major team sport ;basketball, hockey, football and baseball)? Louisville: It’s home of the iconic baseball bat and has always supported its AAA team well. However, it’s just a little more than one hundred miles to Cincinnati, so the Reds would try to block Louisville. Birmingham - it has the population. But too close to Atlanta Austin - This is the most likely new city to get a team. It may be far enough from Dallas (about 180 miles) and Houston (160 miles) to keep The Rangers and Astros from balking. Albuquerque and Honolulu be the final towns to consider. Honolulu would fit, if mlb wanted to expand into Japan and Korea (with three Tokyo Teams, Osaka, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Seoul …) That would be a bad idea, in my opinion. Let the Nippon Baseball League thrive - a game there is more fun than an MLB game anyways
  12. Tommy Herr was a bad addition, not only because of his poor playing but also he was a preachy pain in the uh uh uh neck in the clubhouse. Bruno went to have a few average to above average seasons. This was a bad trade more for the poor addition of Herr
  13. In order to stop a few, very annoying fans, this team cannot have any player named “Woo”, “Wu”, “Weiu” …. Over the past decade, especially in later innings, some bored fans have become “Woo-birds”. The Ric Flair style “Wooooooo” chants echo annoyingly throughout the ballpark. The addition of a player with this phonetic sound in his name will encourage exponentially more “Woooooo” chants - taking that already negative part of the fan experience from annoying to excruciating !!!
  14. 2027 is four seasons from now. It’s almost un - projectionable. Nevertheless, Carlos Correa will have moved to 3B for his final years of his contract.
  15. Years ago, when the Twins touted acquiring an “innings eater”, that usually meant that the pitcher was mediocre or worse but durable enough to throw a large number of innings. 2004 had Terry Mulholland (late in his career) arriving as an “Innings Eater”. The results were not that good. Sorry to you Terry Mulholland fans.
  16. Bingo - The big key is his performance in Spring Training, with maybe some time proving himself in St Paul (even if he has done well in ST). Austin Martin has had periods where his performance has been disappointing, and he needs to show sustained improvement.
  17. The Twins should try to extend Royce long before that contract is about to expire.
  18. Because if the many options at 2B and 3B , you can delete Julien and even Lee from this list. One or the other can be trade chip if the price is right. Otherwise, I agree with all of the others and would probably be less equivocal on Joe Ryan (Young starting pitching, even when a bit shaky, is a premium need).
  19. Maybe he can take over for Dick Bremer. Give Randy an audition.
  20. It has worked for the Twins in the distant past. They moved Rod Carew from 2B to 1B.
  21. There was one pundit on the NYC KFAN who hinted at Alonso being an attitude problem. But then Mets Broadcaster, Keith Hernandez, promptly spoke up and said Alonso is “good teammate”.
  22. Don’t the Twins have an insurance policy in the event Byron Buxton cannot physically perform?
  23. Only to mimic Harmon on color commentary on TV, could it be Ron Warshington (note the third letter)?
  24. Remember. The Twins are NOT replacing the 2023 Sonny Gray but instead it’s the 2024 Sonny Gray. I have a hard time signing him after a career year as he is aging.
