  1. Yeah I think that some kind of bp help should have been done, maybe not a big ticket guy but someone that can go out there and get a few outs.
  2. It doesn't seem like the Lakers ever have problems convincing great players to come to LA? Doesn't seem like the Yankees ever really have to convince the great ones to come to New York?? If taxes are what drives the athletes then why would anyone want to play in New York, or Minnesota for that matter?? I mean guys that want to win go to the teams that win when they have a chance to. Probably says a lot about him and his intentions as a player (winning obviously doesn't matter to him). I'm pretty sure that LA is now probably glad they lucked out and didn't get him.
  3. He'd get paid the same amount there for the last 2 months of his contract. Plus his accountant/agent would probably be able to put better deals together for him in the off season had he gone to a playoff team. I'd get it if he still had 3 years on his deal and would be stuck somewhere he doesn't want to be?
  4. Wow! Who in their right mind would veto the Dodgers? I mean they are always in the thick of it.
  5. The Twins are not just one piece away from contending for the world series. Even if they win the central, I mean they could win a few games and break the curse but they aren't winning or going to the world series. So I mean they could maybe find someone to help out in the bullpen a little. But I think they should just go with what they have. I think the problem is two fold, like I said they aren't just a piece or two away, like in the Shannon Stewart days. They are a long ways away. Second, with more teams actually in contention now for the playoffs, I don't think there is a lot of worthwhile trade pieces out there. I mean 10 years ago the number of teams selling was probably close to double what it is now. Which resulted in more talent available at the deadline. With the lack of talent available, teams like the Padres are picking up guys like Rich Hill? I mean at 43 he is still a serviceable MLB player, but is he going to make the difference for the Padres? But I mean, they are probably looking at it like what else is out there? So that is why I think the Twins should just keep pulling young guys up and waiting for guys to get healthy. There isn't anything out on the trade market that will turn them into a contender.
  6. I think he's probably hitting the wall a little, he's already at like 50 innings, I think he only threw 58 innings all year last year and most of them probably pretty low stress. He could struggle a little from here on out, but end up with 70 innings and next year come back and be dominant again?
  7. Maybe the Twins can identify a couple of AA arms that could be traded away for some bullpen help, then before trading them just put them into their own bullpen and see how they do? Probably help to avoid trading the next potential All-star
  8. Late to the show, really really glad that Buck has gone deep twice!!
  9. I'm glad he was praying before hand. So am I.
  10. I think it goes to that tie breaker rule where a guy starts on 2nd??
  11. We really need to get rid of Kepler. Oh wait a minute.
  12. I think that having CF on your resume when you are a free agent out on the market would increase your ability to get signed. So to me it doesn't make a lot of sense, I can't imagine a player absolutely saying no. So I have a feeling that Kepler is holding up the company line, even if he did say that.
  13. Yeah, he didn't even play full time with the Royals. But yeah I agree, Kep should move to CF. However, the one thing that I've been harping on for a couple of years now, especially when people want Rocco fired, etc.... etc.... etc.... Is that I believe that this front office makes all of the decision, 100%. I mean if Rocco gets fired they'd just bring in another Rocco who will do exactly what Rocco is already doing. I mean it just feels like everyone in a leadership position on the twins just sits there and waits until the big guys tell them what to do. I really don't feel like anyone has any decision making ability whatsoever throughout the organization. I mean if guys like coaches and whatnot were sitting around thinking of ways to change things up don't you think they'd try Kep in Center, I mean just a few times to see if it works out? But no, all of the sudden he can't even attempt to play there, that sounds like a decision from up top of you ask me. Just my feeling.
  14. For some reason I thought he was down in Miami at some point in time?
  15. The question has been asked a few times. Does anyone exactly know what's wrong with Byron's knee? I know I heard Arraez's knee was always hurt too? But I haven't heard that this year while he is down in Miami? I mean is it cartilage? Is it a ligament? What's wrong with it? Does anyone know?
  16. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/team_compare.cgi?request=1&year=2023&lg=MLB&stat=WAR I think the WAR stat is cool in theory, but I feel like it's not calculated the best. Something in the stat is wrong, I mean I know Aaron Judge had a tremendous season last year, but how does he have a higher WAR than a guy doing two people's jobs such as Ohtani? So if you look at the current team WAR on baseball reference the Twins are, according to WAR, the 5th best team in baseball? Idk, there is some sort of flaw in the WAR stat. How are the twins the 5th best team in baseball? I know Atlanta is 2nd, but how are they not 1st? I mean Tampa is great, but after their 29 - 7 start they've been 1 game under .500, so I have to think Atlanta is a better overall team, right? But how the twins slide in at 5th and no one can hit is beyond me.
  17. That's more than they play against the other divisions correct? So they don't get to play against Minnesota, Cleveland, Kansas City, Chicago White Sox and Detroit 32% of the time, the teams that don't score a whole lot of runs. I mean anyone gets 6 more games against KC should be in a little better shape, right?
  18. I'm not weighing in on who won whatever trade. However I think credit needs to be given where credit is due. I know most people are not necessarily fond of Berrios any longer, kind of like an ex girlfriend or something. We all kind of knew he probably wasn't going to return to the Twins anyway so I can understand where the fan base can be a little disgruntled about him. However, when considering his putrid first 3 games or so, he has been very consistent. I mean his over all numbers are very similar to Joe Ryan's numbers and Berrios pitches in the AL East. There is no worse place to have to pitch on a daily basis than the AL East. Last year he definitely struggled. Had a winning record but he pitched for a superior team last season that kept him in games that wouldn't have happened in Minnesota. But this year, he has looked good, and again when you consider how poorly he started that means he's even done better than his current numbers show because he was coming from such poor numbers in the first place. I hope SWR wins 20 games for the Twins next year. I hope Martin becomes the next Luis Arraez. So by no means am I saying the Twins lost this trade, I'm just saying give some credit where credit is due. Berrios has looked sharp this season after that terrible start.
  19. If you look at his baseball reference page and look at his minor league stats he really only had 1 exceptional season and that was 2021. Other than that he has a few seasons of .250 averages. Usually .250 .260 in the minors doesn't normally cut it in the majors. Not always, but it seems that as they come up the hitting goes down a little.
  20. The way we are really going to see it is when they lose Gray, Mahle, and Maeda at the end of the season and what they come back with? Do they trade Royce Lewis to get another Pablo Lopez type to add to the rotation or do they bring some guys up from the system and they don't miss a beat? That will determine it. Now it looks as though Varland might be ok but they will need to have another couple of dudes step up to be the 5th and 6th guys behind Ryan, Lopez, and Ober. Hopefully SWR? Hedrick? we will see.
  21. I was just going off of the original post about how Kepler doesn't have as high of a DRS as high as he used to. So I just made the point that Buck has no ability to even play out there anymore. Yeah Buck has a new contract, that is huge and now has less opportunity to help the club. But anyway, hopefully Buck can get his knee fixed in the off season and can roam the OF once again next season. Hopefully Kep and Gallo get hot and help the Twins to a division title. We will see. Hopefully Wallner keeps playing well.
  22. I was wondering when all of the hate is going to start to be directed at Byron Buxton? I mean by no means am I defending Kepler or Gallo, but. Through 164 AB's Kepler has 10 HR's and is hitting .207. Through 218 AB's Buck has 13 HR's and is hitting .206 and Buck is now incapable of playing defense. So who's performance and salary are really weighing the Twins down? I remember people complaining about Joe Mauer and his empty .300 batting averages, his salary and inability to play catcher was the doom of the Twins. Now we have a guy making a Butt load of money and can't even play 1B? Don't get me wrong, I love all of the Twins players and would love to see them all hit 30 bombs and hit .300. but it's not happening. It just seems like Buck gets a pass while these other guys get crapped on and these other guys really don't make any money, so easy to move on from. Carlos Correa needs his fair share also, again making a truck load of money and has completely stunk.
  23. What's interesting to me is that I totally understand all of the Kepler hate, but in 164 AB's he's hitting .207 with 10 HR's. in 217 AB's Buck is hitting .207 with 13 HR's and Buck can no longer play in the field. So I don't quite understand how Buck gets a pass and Kep gets all of the hate. I don't live in Minnesota, grew up in that area, but I live in Cali and everyone I talk to, (who are obviously outsiders looking in because they know I'm a Twins fan), say the stupidest thing that they all think the Twins did is resign Buck to a big contract. None of these outsiders, (non Twins fans), even talk about Kepler. They all talk about how Buxton is holding the Twins back, now he's a DH who hits .200 and can't cant play the field. These are reputable baseball people too, many of the people I deal with on a daily basis are college baseball coaches. So yeah, Kep has not been good this year, but neither has Buck, but I don't really hear any negativity towards him from this board. But people who are not from the Twins area are saying that Buxton is sinking the Twins ship? Most of the people I talk to say that Correa was a dumb signing too, especially with Lewis in the fold, but I get that Lewis is from Cali and many of these people are pulling for him.
