The Jhoan Durán Panic Is Hugely Overblown
Twodogs replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
https://puckettspond.com/posts/jhoan-duran-called-out-twins-coaches-walk-off-home-run-guardians-01hyc10yzs3j It seems that he doesn't necessarily have complete control of what he throws, or when. So some of those pitch selections might not be his fault? -
Is Baldelli the worst Manager in Twins/Senators history?

You might be surprised what the players thought about Billy. Although self destructive, many of the players felt he always had their backs. -
Is Baldelli the worst Manager in Twins/Senators history?
Twodogs replied to TopTwinsFan's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'm not sure how that has anything to do with it? Jim Leyland managed in 4 different cities. Does that make him a worse manager than Rocco? My point was.... Which team is better? The team with more wins? Or the team with 4 titles?? I think people would say the team with the 4 titles?? -
Is Baldelli the worst Manager in Twins/Senators history?
Twodogs replied to TopTwinsFan's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I don't disagree, this is a fact. But let me give you a different way to think about it. The Minnesota Vikings have the 8th best overall record ever in the NFL, The Los Angeles Rams come in at 16th best record, barely over .500. So overall the Vikings have been better by quite a bit. But which teams fans are more satisfied? The Vikings fans who have never won the big one? Or Rams fans who have 2 Superbowl titles and 4 NFL titles overall? I mean TK won 2 world series titles with teams that were really probably out matched by their opponents. Just a different way to look at it. -
Is Baldelli the worst Manager in Twins/Senators history?
Twodogs replied to TopTwinsFan's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Maybe, maybe not. He might have gone out and beat the crap out of Angel Hernandez for them. Everyone has suspicions about how people would react to someone from a different era, you know Billy might have gotten in someones face here and there, but, if they felt he always had their back, and would fight for them, you'd probably be surprised how many players, even today would rally around him. On the flip side when someone in the front office told him to pull a pitcher, or to platoon a guy, Billy would probably knock the crud out of that guy too. So anyone can try to predict or assume, but until it actually happens you really don't know. -
Is Baldelli the worst Manager in Twins/Senators history?
Twodogs replied to TopTwinsFan's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think comparing Rocco to almost any of the other managers with maybe the exception of Molitor is apples to oranges. I mean, if time travel were a thing and you could bring Billy Martin forward in time and have him managing today's Twins do you really think he'd give a crap what Falvey or anyone else in the front office thought? Do you think even one of his on field decisions would be influenced by someone in the front office. I mean he'd probably do the exact opposite if Falvey told him to play or sit some guy. I still think Rocco is a microcosm of the front office, I mean I'm sure Rocco has some leeway to make in game decisions, but I really believe the big picture is all run by the front office. Do you think TK would have given two spits what someone in the front office thought about when he should pull a pitcher or some other on field decision? So I think Rocco could be fired and he's just be replaced by another Rocco. Also trying to compare Rocco to guys who had more autonomy as far as decision making probably isn't completely fair to Rocco. I'm not a Rocco fan, but I do see the differences between the different eras. -
I agree 100% at this point in time the next time they win something it will be by luck, especially with the wild card rounds and all of that stuff. But 1991, I don't really know if that should be considered lucky. I mean they won the American League West by like 10 games or something crazy, plus the West had 7 teams in it back then and I think if not all almost all of them had a winning record that season. In the World Series, they took out Atlanta, with Smoltz, Maddux, and Glavine. That Atlanta team beat the Pirates who had Bonds, Bonilla, Van Slyke, Drabek. I mean That 1991 team were studs. The front office and ownership that year actually did some work by bringing in Chilli Davis, Jack Morris and trusting a rookie to play the Keystone in Knoblauch. I mean back before the wild cards it was hard to be lucky. But 1987 did seem a little bit lucky, but I remember Blyleven talking the previous season about how even that team could be special, so I don't really think they snuck up on anyone with Hrbek, Puckett, Viola, Gaetti, Blyleven, Brunanski, etc.... but 87 did seem unlikely as fans, but 91 i felt during that run that the Twins had a legit shot. JMO. But they have some work to do now. Could you imagine if there were still only 2 divisions? How many times would they have made the playoffs these last 10 years? They definitely have their work cut out for them. Fingers crossed 🤞 a little luck will be needed.

I just wish the Twins would get an owner that would at least do what it takes to go for it once in awhile. I get it in the lean years pull back and conserve and build up from within. But in these situations maybe try and go for it. But weird year with the TV situation and all of that. I'm just worried about exactly what you said, people not going to the games because ownership isn't trying hard. I mean they did that in Oakland and now they don't have a team anymore. So it's a double edged sword we as the fans wield. Boycotting works until it doesn't anymore and then we might not have a team to talk about. I'm just hopeful that the main guys, Lewis, Buxton, Correa, etc..... all stay healthy and with that, maybe we don't really need anyone else. I know that's blowing smoke, but I'm hopeful.

Most of the really good starting pitchers didn't get traded? Snell, Skubal, Crochet? They all stayed put. I think Scott would have helped a lot but getting Trevor Rodgers probably doesn't make them any better.
-
So just everyone's opinion, the Twins have the best record in the American League since April 22nd. I know they got some average reliever from Toronto, but if they make no real trades do they still have a legit shot??

Randy Dobnak Has Earned His Way Back
Twodogs replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I mean if there is an opening, you have to look at the production, right? I mean I know many on here hold grudges when they think someone isn't up to par, but if he is currently out producing the other candidates then you have to give that guy the shot, right? Maybe he is just a different pitcher now than he used to be, it happens all of the time, where some guy finds a new pitch and instead of being average to poor they all of the sudden become all stars. Who knows, Dobber could become that guy, most likely not, but he could be, so give him a shot. Can't be worse than Keuchel- 65 replies

Twins Pursuing Rental Starting Pitching At Trade Deadline
Twodogs replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I thought that when a guy got DFA'd that the new team only had to pay league minimum? I mean the Dodgers are on the hook if no one picks him up? So why wouldn't they still be on the hook? I mean unless the two teams worked a trade, then that would be different I'd think. No? -
Willi Castro named to AL All-Star team as replacement!
Twodogs replied to RocRedWing's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
He kind of reminds me of Eduardo Escobar. A guy that wasn't really supposed to be anything other than depth on the bench but ends up playing a really important role for the club. And Flourishes doing so. Hope he can keep it up. -
Just because no one can show you proof right at this moment doesn't mean MLB hasn't colluded to not sign him. I mean it seems pretty weird no one would take a flier on him. MLB has been found guilty of collision before, when no one was supposed to know. Realize that all of these billionaires all know each other, and have to be able to work together, so a few hand shakes under the table wouldn't be surprising at all. I'm sure he's been Colin Kaepernicked. But if no one else is going to get him, then at least we aren't missing out on anything. He's probably at least good enough still to compete. I mean he did well in Japan last season, look what Yamamoto got? Regardless of whether you hate him or could care less about him or like him the facts are that he's good enough or been good enough to get a shot. So guys like Michael Vick got forgiven, Deshaun Watson was forgiven, I mean the list goes on and on. So he's probably been black balled, but like I said, if he can't be used against us then who cares if we can't get him?

Without it, the Twins probably don't have anyone picked. I'm going to get yelled at here, but I'd actually like to see voting go back to the ballparks. Let the people who actually attend games vote. I don't mean punch cards and hanging chads, put up a QR code and let the people who actually attend the games vote. I'm a season ticket holder for the Angels and it seems to me that the people at the games actually get to know the players their team plays against better and not just their own. Also, then if you want more all star representation then go to more games?? I know, I know that's not possible, but it's what I feel. I just remember back when the Royals got the whole starting infield voted in because of online voting.

How many wins has Rocco cost the Twins in 2024?
Twodogs commented on ashbury's blog entry in Left Coast Bias
Geez, I'm not a Rocco fan. I mean I actually like the guy, just I'm not a fan of his managerial style. Never have been, but his managerial style is a direct reflection of the GM's that put him in that spot. However, beyond all of that. The Twins are like 12 games over .500 with no help from the off season, lost Cy young candidate, and other pieces and basically just did absolutely nothing this off season. Yet they are still 12 games over .500. So Rocco has done nothing to harm this squad whatsoever. I have nothing to complain about this season. I feel that the total reliance on analytics will eventually bite them come playoff time, but it gets them to the playoffs often enough, and that's with many of their best players having been down at some point in time this season. So Rocco is doing his job, I voted as zero, he has been responsible for 0 extra losses this season. Probably even could go the other way. But I have no proof of that. So leave Rocco alone. The Twins are doing well, especially for what they set them up for this past off season. -
Is there anywhere where I can find a good stat page on individual minor league teams? I mean when I go to MILB team stats it just shows home runs? I liked being able to follow and see all of the stats back in the day, I just can't find that stuff anymore, at least they really seem to make it hard to find.

Hopefully, but right Now Luis has picked up where he left off in Miami. I cheer for Arraez but I also cheer for Martin. Hopefully he gets to that point.

Whoa there, I like Martin, but he hit .270 in 21, .240 in 22 and .260 last season. I mean Luis Arraez hit .350. now I know the Twins got Pablo Lopez for him and that is a good trade. But could you imagine had they traded someone else for Lopez? Let's say Miranda, he was a super hot name going into last season. Could you imagine having had Arraez hitting 350 with a .400 on base leading off last season? I don't care about stolen bases at that point in time. A ton of those solo shot home runs would have been 2 run shots. I like Martin and I hope he becomes a good lead off hitter, but I don't think he is anywhere near Arraez, at least at this point in his career. The stolen bases will mean more if he can become a consistent .290 - .300 hitter. He doesn't have to hit .350 to compare to Arraez, but it has to be better than .240 - .260. I see your point though as Arraez did not run much, so I like Martin, just I don't think he's quite there yet.

I think with Lewis, Santana, Miranda and Kirilloff you have 4 guys for 3 spots. That's probably what you want. I mean if the Twins average 6 games a week Lewis isnt going to play more than 4 games at 3rd. One of those games he will DH and one he will probably just rest. Miranda will be able to sneak a couple of games in at 3rd and probably 1 at DH and 1 at 1st base. 4 games out of 6 would be decent for Miranda, Santana and Kirilloff will get the rest of them.

Does Miranda move to 1st or DH when Lewis back
Twodogs replied to jaimedude's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'd think Miranda would get DH at bats and some 3B to give Lewis a rest. I think Santana actually plays 1B and they won't put someone in who probably doesn't practice their all that often. I mean I could see him over at 1B once in awhile, but I think Santana will man the position most of the time unless he just stops hitting all together. JMO -
Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition
Twodogs replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Apparently Rod Carew won't even step into Angels Stadium as long as Artie Moreno is still the owner.
