My only problem with trading Ryan is who replaces him? Or who do you have to go out and get to replace him and what's the cost of something like that? That's why I'd trade expiring contracts. Paddack, Bader, Castro, etc.... then go and trade Duran and Jax. Shop them to the Dodgers, Padres, Phillies, etc.... Lots of teams need backend help for the playoffs stretch. Those main teams actually have a lot of questions in the back of their bullpens. The Twins already probably have guys that can replace Duran and Jax in guys like Varland, Stewart, etc..... I mean they just flat out drop guys like Megill and Henriquiz over the last couple of years. So they obviously can put together a nice bullpen when needed. So I think the big piece, if the Twins fall out of the race should be Duran and or Jax. Then I think Paddack could bring back something decent. I think Bader and Castro could bring back something decent at the lower levels. But if you pit the Dodger and Padres against each other for Duran I think you could pull something big. Relievers are very volatile, trade Duran and Jax now. You can replace them. Don't trade Ryan, very hard to replace him with all of the salary constraints.

Question of the week: You sellin' or buyin'?
Twodogs replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think Paddack could bring back some value as far as a low ranked prospect. I mean if a team like the Dbacks stay competitive, they've lost Corbin Burns and Eduardo Rodriguez is terrible, I could see Paddack going there and being their 5th starter. I would probably shop Duran and Jax. I know they have another year of control but that should make them that much more valuable. I mean I'd start pitting the Dodgers and the Padres and for that matter maybe the Giants and D Backs all against each other for Duran's services. I mean none of those teams really have lock down guys that a guy like Duran wouldn't immediately make them much better. I mean the Dodgers and Padres especially I could see them getting into a bidding war, could you imagine if the Twins could pull a young starting pitcher out of the Dodgers organization which would allow them to move Scott, Yates and Vesia into the 7th and 8th innings? Jax would be a consolation prize, Maybe even the Phillies and the Mets could bid against each other for Jax? The Phillies could actually use a closer, and maybe Jax could be that guy for them. The Mets, with Diaz would put Jax in the 7th and 8th inning role. The reason is shop those guys is because it always seems like relief pitchers are so volatile, they can be the best on the planet one year and completely disappear the next. Seems like the Twins have guys like Varland who throws 100 and Stewart and other guys that can get the job done. I mean they apparently have so much depth in the bullpen that they had no room for Megill who is closing out games for the brewers these days. I would also shop Castro, Bader and France. I think teams might give up low level guys for those guys, potentially. I mean Vasquez, if some team loses their backup catcher to injuries or something, then go ahead and move him but right now I don't see anyway to get rid of him. I'd keep the nucleus of Buck, Correa, Lopez, Ryan, Over and try to add around them for next season. They basically added nothing this off-season and it's showing. But I think they could really rebuild the organization this trade deadline. But I was also telling all of my Angel friends that they needed to trade Ohtani to the Braves, that was while he was still pitching and hitting bombs. I mean who knows what they could have gotten from the Braves and Ohtani would have put them over the top that season, I mean before he got hurt. -
Falvey: Minnesota Twins Are Not Focused On Selling
Twodogs replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
100%, but I think the big thing here is that they probably need to wait until closer to the deadline to see exactly where they are at. Still 4 games under .500 I think they have to sell. Have a big turn around between now and then, look to add. I don't think this administration has any problems selling when the time is right. But I do think what will irritate the fan base is if the Twins are actually in contention when the deadline gets here. Pretty sure these guys will basically do nothing, maybe they will find a lefty reliever no one has ever heard of but that is about it. At least that's my gut feeling. -
Looks like father time is catching up to him. 2 years ago it looked like he did pretty well in Japan, then obviously the Mexican league is another step down from that. Now he is back in Japan and his ERA is in the 4's. Kinda looks like he'd get lit up in the MLB. I'd say his next step would be the independent leagues.

I really have no need to discuss Bauer, I mean why would a 4th place team be going after an aging veteran might as well bring up a young rookie to see what he can do for the future. Or if need be bring up our own aging veteran Dobnak to finish out a 4th place campaign. But the part of your response that really made me think a little bit was when you mentioned facilitating challenging questions about rough sex and sexual consent etc.... Then I thought to myself, we live in a global society with global news stories. I don't see a bunch of articles being written in Japan about Bauer and his sexual history. I wonder why the Japanese people and press isn't all over him about these issues? You know they know about them? I mean whether he pitches well or poorly they don't seem to be writing articles about his past accusations. Why is that? Are the Japanese people just that oblivious to how bad of a person Bauer is? Or maybe it's actually a 180° flip and maybe the Japanese people are just that much better than us? Maybe their press also has a button where they decided to quit beating a dead horse? Also please don't bring up the Kirby Puckett drama anymore. I don't want a younger generation to actually look into the stuff he did off the field away from baseball and then end up tearing down his statue which celebrated the things he did on the field.

I know when McPhail was in charge other teams were calling him to offer him a job in their organizations. In the movie Moneyball Boston called Billy Bean to offer him a job. Do you think anyone has called to offer Falvey a job?? I'm pretty sure good GM's get offered Jobs frequently. So that's not saying he's in the bottom 5, but pretty sure no one is trying to pry him and Rocco away from the Twins. You are correct the Pohlads have been terrible, especially the kids. But I don't really think Falvey has done a great job. He's just done a job and a lot of other executives out there could have done just as well as Falvey. So Falvey isn't terrible, but I don't believe he's been good either, had he someone would have taken him from the Twins organization.

Rocco is nothing more than a prop set up for a play. The only reason they'd fire Rocco is if he bucked management and did some things they didn't agree with. If they were to fire him they would just put another prop in there that will do the exact same thing Rocco is already doing.

San Diego always seems to be willing to part with quality prospects. I'd guess Alcantara goes to San Diego. The Twins just aren't willing to part with the prospects needed for Alcantara. And I'd guess that's ok in this instance. Alcantara could be good, but it may take him a year or so to get back to his full potential.

Royce Lewis injures left hamstring... again 🤬
Twodogs replied to Ottomatic1990's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think when you look at things like WAR and not actual numbers it can get skewed a little. I mean how many days did Ronald Acuna miss this year and what's his WAR projection during that time. Probably adds up to 6 of the Twins injured relief pitchers combined. But, it's really hard to play games missing 6 pitchers if you don't have viable replacements. 1 outfielder can be replaced albeit not at the same production, but 1 guy can be replaced more easily. So it really depends sometimes on 1 or 2 really really great players that are hurt, where with the Twins it seems like everyone is hurt a little bit here and there all of the time. So you'd think the Twins would be in the top 10 of most injury ravaged baseball teams, but if the Yankees lose Judge for the year they can still play baseball missing one guy, but his WAR would be an incredible loss. -

Twins (TBD) vs Athletics (Spence): 6/5/25, 2:35pm

In spring training many players had to change their heights so as that the ABS system would register the correct strike zone for them. -

I don't think player agents allow managers to call bunts anymore(sarcasm). It affects the amount of HRs they can hit. So I'd bet Clemons called that bunt himself, I'm sure Castro did as well. They players probably all talked about it, because they see the 3B playing back too far? -

I kind of like the challenge idea. Then you can pick and choose when to use it. -

Nice bunt. Looks like a line drive in the box score! -
MLB Television Ratings Showing Double-Digit Growth In 2025
Twodogs replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
After reading your response I started thinking also. I read the Yankees averaged 3 hours per game in 88. Then I thought to myself, hey both leagues added the DH like 5 - 6 years ago. I wonder what game time differences were between the American League and the National League before the National League got the DH? Very interesting the increase in time between 1945 and 1960. Biggest increase over a time period ever. So looks like from what you've observed is the Royals winning the world series in the way that they did was probably the undoing of quick paced games. Maybe teams should lose the DH when they pull their starter out? Might keep pitchers in another inning or two? -
MLB Television Ratings Showing Double-Digit Growth In 2025
Twodogs replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I've wondered, what was going on in the 70's and 80's that kept game times down? I mean they didn't add a runner to 2nd in extra innings either. Don't get me wrong, once in awhile a game got really long, but by looking at the averages they were moving along? I mean could TV itself have slowed the game down with advertising and such, were the Umps just tougher on the players? IDK, I'm just throwing ideas out there since at one point in time the game moved along, why they weren't able to keep that pace is what I'm trying to figure out. -
Exactly, but you just made my point. If Gaspar or anyone for that matter can have an amazing week or two before the chariot turns back into a pumpkin then that is a lot better than watching Lewis go another 0 - 30. Who cares if he's 29? It's not like they would be pulling up their next All Star candidate, they would be pulling up a stop gap for the time being.

Understand that when you trade from a position of strength. That strength becomes less strong. The Twins success can probably be mostly attributed to this position of strength. So if the Twins make their strong points weaker so now they are not strong but average. If they somehow pry away some decent bat from some other team. Which would make their weak point also average. Now you would have all facets of your game as average. Probably not a playoff team? JMO. But if they ride their strength? They might be able to get this squad into the playoffs. Let's be realistic, most of the problems with the Twins were created with no movement during the off season. So they have some strength, I say ride that until the trade deadline and see where they are at then?

I think when you have a team and a clubhouse that is currently winning, you don't break pieces off hoping that you'll still have a quality clubhouse and hoping that you continue to win. I mean had the Twins continued down the path that they were on in their first couple of weeks then no one cares about the clubhouse or keeping the guys together. I know everyone else looks at these things like fantasy managers and with trade values and analytics. But not so much different than not changing your socks or whatever while you are on a hitting streak I don't think you mess with the pitching success of the rotation while the Twins are in playoff contention. As the weeks go forward these things can change. I mean a guy who hits .450 one month and then hits .150 the next might as well change his socks while in a slump. But you just don't mess with winning. If they are winning you keep doing what's winning. Not saying that you are wrong about Paddock's value and all. I just don't think you treat this like a fantasy team and make trades while things are going well. JMO
