    Great game and performance by the Twins. If there was ever a doubt about Kepler's reluctance to play in center tonight answered that question. Luplow has played only 225 innings there and yet he was the one manning center instead of Max when Gallo got tossed.

    At what point are they going to break the cycle of not using their prospects that they are supposed to be developing. You can't continually try to turn the staff over from the outside. At some point you have to give them a chance. Varland has shown some potential and sometimes they are not lights out right away but that is part of the learning process. Are we waiting for them to show a sub 2 era before we bring them up, this is similar to keeping Wallner down earlier this year. As an aside I saw Varland the other night in Omaha and he didn't look bad despite the results. They were using the ABS for that game and I do wonder if that is impacting the pitchers. They don't use every game and there were borderline pitches being correctly called balls but a lot of umpires would be calling strikes. I do wonder what kind of adjustment this is for the pitchers.

    At what point do you give a chance to Varland, he will be 26 at the beginning of the season next year. At some point the pitching pipeline has to start producing or we will be going thru this revolving door every year. Paddack was not very good except for one year and is coming off the second TJ surgery. Put him in the bullpen, And let's open some spots for the young pitching to join the rotation.

    We currently have 5 starters, if the front office is counting on Keuchel down the stretch, then we are in trouble and this front office needs to go. A six man rotation takes everyone out of their rhythm, which we have been told over the years is just as important in the performance of a starting pitcher. Stay with a 5 man rotation, release Keuchel when Ryan comes back and slide in Varland if another starter is needed.

    I doubt Winder or Sands will be on the playoff roster either. Again Keuchel has had one good outing in the last two plus years and you want to count on him in the playoffs. And potentially in a relief role that he has not been in for over 10 years. Can we set some higher expectations. start bringing up a couple of guys from St. Paul and see what they can do. They would at least have some more potential upside. Keuchel is toast and has nothing left in the tank, and no other teams were after him. Why do we keep going after lottery tickets, that is not how you build a winning team.

    How can he be an asset, his command is not there consistently, he has had one good outing. And that was against a team with inexperienced hitters who are more prone to chasing his offspeed offerings just like in AAA. A team i.e. the Phillies with experienced hitters will not chase and force him into the zone and he does not have hit and miss stuff. Why do we get so fascinated with these fringey veterans that have nothing left. Can we raise expectations on this front office to actually bring in players that can contribute and stop with the lottery ticket hopefuls.

    You seriously think Keuchel should even be in consideration to be on the post reason roster. We may as well as mail it in if he is on the roster.

    Yes platooning as been around for a long time in baseball. The problem is the way the Twins employ the strategy. You can not have a team of platoon players, you need to have stars and everyday players. If you have 4 or 5 positions that you are platooning, the majority of your players are limited by nature and you will be a .500 team. You need to have to 5 or 6 players that you can count on to be everyday players and mix and match the others in based on matchups. We basically have three players that are not considered platoon players, Buxton when healthy, Correa and Polanco. You don't have to sit a left handed hitting player against every left handed pitcher. Only when you are facing the tougher left handers, do they sit. Randy Johnson is the first example that comes to mind, many left hand hitting batters sat against him regardless if they were a starter or not because he was tough on them. But we were sitting lefties against Joey Wentz of the Tigers, if Julien and Wallner can't hit him there are bigger issues.

    He wasn't used last time Keuchel got lit up, so I am not sure why they have him on the roster.

    Keuchel needs to be DFA'd, he should not be on a major league roster for any role.

    Can we stop hoping for washed up journeyman veteran players will help us, Garlick does nothing for this team. Bring up the best player regardless of what side of the plate they hit from. It is not illegal to have left handed hitters in the line up against left handed pitchers.

    I agree, but they were playing against a pitcher that should not be considered a tougher pitcher to face. They should be playing a couple of days a week. But if we play lefties 5 days in a row, they will be in there. That is my concern, not all players are equal in ability, so when you sit players who should be regulars you are weakening your team. If you want to use the splits as rigid as the Twins you need to upgrade your bench dramatically and not have role players.. It works for one game but you have to play for the whole season.

    Or they could put in their best hitters regardless of how they hit. Not every LH should be sitting just because a LH is pitching. You can't have a team of platoon players for season long success.

    Gallo gets on average two hits a week and one is for extra bases. His defense has to be Platinum Glove level to be even considered for a spot on this roster and it is not. If this was any other player not named Buxton or Correa they would have been gone long ago.

    They have filled 1B on the fly before, Arraez last year is an example. They played Farmer there in the late innings the other night. Move Julien or Polanco there until Kiriloff is back. There is no excuse to continue keeping Gallo on the roster another day especially for a contending team.

    The Dodgers picked up players who at least have been in the majors this year and have had some measure of recent success. So what is the difference, Keuchel wasn't even signed to a minor league until June, he had an opt out clause in July and chose not to take it. Why didn't he take the opt out because teams were not calling his agent saying hey come pitch for us. He also has no success for 4 years. Big difference in the caliber of players.

    What is this fascination with Keuchel, another washed up veteran pitcher. So he has some good stats at the AAA level. Are we just going to ignore what he has done at the major league level the last three years. He is just another Bundy, Happ, Shoemaker, Archer reclamation project. Championship teams try to improve their roster with proven players not reclamation projects that they hope will do something, especially not in August. The time to try this is in spring training. If there was a LH prospect with his stuff pitching with his numbers this board would be saying that those numbers would not be sustainable with the Twins. But yet because it is a name who has had no success in 4 years, we think he can come up here and help win a pennant for us.

    Give Gallo away to the first team that calls, get a bag of balls or send one to get rid of him. The last two games they have pinch hit for him because he can't make contact. Why is he even in the lineup.

    The other option in the 10th inning would have been to let Kepler hit and pinch hit Farmer for Wallner. This keeps the defense stronger and keeps Vazuqez on the bench. Both players did not need to be pinch hit for just because a LH was on the mound. Rocco needs to show some flexibility in these situations and not just pinch hit for the sake of pinch hitting. You need to have a quality option available and that is not Vazquez.

    Elite defense, have you been watching his routes to the ball in CF. I know he hasn't played there much, but calling him elite defensively is a bit of hyberbole.

    These are all good options, but who are you going to take off the 26 man roster. The front office appears to want to ride with Gallo. So really the only options would be Solano or Castro unless Buxton on the IL. I would be good with any of these players but it can't be at the expense of taking ab's from Kiriloff even against lefties. We probably bullpen help more at this point.

    Gallo should be the one to go. Get whatever you can for him or release him. And stop worrying about LH/RH splits, play your best players every day. Not all players are equal in ability and by having so many platoon players they are not always putting out their best lineup.

    I would not count on Paddack this year. First this was his second TJ surgery and there is not a lot known about the recovery timeline, they are all different. And remember last Maeda was supposed to back in September and then they shut him down. The Twins are very conservative with injury management, I would be surprised if they have him pitch this year.
