The other option in the 10th inning would have been to let Kepler hit and pinch hit Farmer for Wallner. This keeps the defense stronger and keeps Vazuqez on the bench. Both players did not need to be pinch hit for just because a LH was on the mound. Rocco needs to show some flexibility in these situations and not just pinch hit for the sake of pinch hitting. You need to have a quality option available and that is not Vazquez.

3 Bats for the Twins to Monitor at the Deadline
HarmonK03 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
These are all good options, but who are you going to take off the 26 man roster. The front office appears to want to ride with Gallo. So really the only options would be Solano or Castro unless Buxton on the IL. I would be good with any of these players but it can't be at the expense of taking ab's from Kiriloff even against lefties. We probably bullpen help more at this point.- 32 replies

Byron Buxton's Clock Is Ticking
HarmonK03 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gallo should be the one to go. Get whatever you can for him or release him. And stop worrying about LH/RH splits, play your best players every day. Not all players are equal in ability and by having so many platoon players they are not always putting out their best lineup.- 52 replies

I would not count on Paddack this year. First this was his second TJ surgery and there is not a lot known about the recovery timeline, they are all different. And remember last Maeda was supposed to back in September and then they shut him down. The Twins are very conservative with injury management, I would be surprised if they have him pitch this year.

Give him consistent playing time and make a determination. You can't make every player a platoon player. Gallo has an OPS in the mid .600 the last two months. So why would you continue giving at bats if you can get the same results from someone who has more of a potential future with the team. We need more regular starters, you are not going win with platooning 6 positions, that implies those players are all equal in ability. And that is not the case.

Why would Kiriloff be at risk of losing his roster spot. Who do they have that takes better at bat's. Maybe they should try to give him consistent playing time. Kepler can go up there and flail away and not ever worry about his playing time. The way this team develops the young players is not very good. Stop with the obsession with right/left splits and put your best 9 players which Kiriloff is one of.

Good teams find a way to get their best players in the lineup regardless of position. If the Twins send Julien down, it should signal the end for this decision making trio. This would show they are either too inflexible or stubborn to find solutions to field the best team possible. And Julien has played 3 innings this weekend, he can hit left handed pitchers. Play him until he shows he can't.

Where Do the Twins Go from Here
HarmonK03 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They would have to decide to make Kiriloff a full time player and not a platoon player for this plan to work.- 65 replies

So if we trade one of our top 2 pitchers, that basically signals that we are not going to make the playoffs, which I don't necessarily disagree with. Why would you then give those starts to a washed up veteran. Give the starts to Varland, SWR, even Dobnak. Can we start seeing what we have for future years. This obsession with washed up vets is really unbelievable. If you want to bring someone into the organization can it be for once an upgrade over what we have. Not a I hope they can turn it around vet or we can make them better.

I stand corrected, a handful of people, but I still don't understand what the concerns are about Kiriloff.

Why is everybody so down on Kiriloff. He actually is one of the few members of this team that actually takes quality at bats, maybe needs to be a little more aggressive. But he doesn't even have 600 plate appearances yet and people think Solano at 35 is going to give better production over the course of the season or even be here next season. Who gave the energy yesterday, Kiriloff and Julien. The veterans are sleep walking, say good bye to Gallo and Kepler now, do you really think we can a playoff series with them.

Week in Review: Stuck In Their Ways
HarmonK03 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What about McLain, Steer, Benson, it seems to be working for the Reds. And what about the Orioles who started the process of bringing up their prospects last year. And we do not know if Wallner and Larnach are not good enough. Give them a half season, quit yanking them back and forth. Will their production really be less than Gallo's or Kepler's, I doubt it and they have more upside. Provide some spark to this team. Who were the guys still hustling at the end today, Kiriloff and Julien while Lopez sat on the mound and almost got Kiriloff run over.- 59 replies

Week in Review: Stuck In Their Ways
HarmonK03 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Since Gallo's OPS has been in the mid 600's since April, that kind of answers the question, say thank you for April and good luck finding another organization.- 59 replies

Rocco likes to say the players know what it takes to prepare themselves for the game. When you are winning 100 games you can maybe get away with that. But for the last three years we have been a sub .500 team and our fielding has not looked good at all on a regular basis. It is time to give the players a time to be on the field before the game for fielding practice. And also it would be really helpful if we could have our best outfielder play in CF.

Rocco Baldelli’s Leadership Highlighted In Twins Reset
HarmonK03 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We have been a sub .500 team since 2021, not just this year, at some point results have to be better. Also I am not sure we are loaded with high strikeout guys on the roster except for Gallo and Buxton. Most of the new players have strikeout rates higher than their career averages.- 44 replies

Only here on TD is the term "closer" outdated. As many relievers have stated over the years there is a mind set to finishing out the 9th inning, it is more than just who you are pitching too. Duran has that mindset, maybe Jax to a certain degree. But you can't just throw anyone out there in a save situation. If you ever watched Ron Davis try to save games, you know what I am talking about. He was a lights out set up man but just didn't have the closer mentality. This is Rocco's biggest weakness, the game is not played on spreadsheets, it is played on the field.

Should The Twins Make A Swap At Third Base?
HarmonK03 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Give him a chance, he has played 16 games and has 60 plate appearances. We know there will be some good and some not so good moments with younger players. But let him play up here and learn over the course of a season. He was a number 1 pick for a reason. This AAA shuttle when they don't have superior players playing in front of them, see Kepler and Wallner, is getting old. Either go out and get proven front line players to start, and Gallo is not one of those, or give the young guys a chance. Having all these middle of the road veterans at best and treading water is getting tiresome. At least give these young guys a chance and see what you have. If we lose we can at least see some hope for the future or know where the holes are. -
Badoo never played with the Twins, Cave was never considered a starter, Hicks we needed to have more patience.

Why is Buxton not ready for CF, we are being told nothing as to his status or why he is not out there. We were told the surgery he had at the end of last season was minor. So is he healed or is there something else, I think the FO owes some explanation. This team was built on position flexibility and rotating the DH, having a full time DH does not allow this. And we have to see Taylor hit every game instead of a Larnach or Julien. Buxton needs to be in the OF at least three or four days a week to make this a better team.

I loved seeing the young guys carrying the team today. The AB by Taylor in the third was awful and that is what we have seen too much of this year. After Farmer was walked on four pitches he swings at the first pitch which was inside. Rocco needs to sit him tomorrow to send a message that the team needs better at bats. The veterans should be leading the way for the kids not the other way around.
