  1. I was at the game as well. Terrific seats, but hot weather and a lousy game made it hard to sit thru. It seemed like the Twins were already (mentally) starting their all-star break. Tip of the hat to Cease. He was on today. Archer looked great and came up an out short of his usually 5 solid. At the beginning of the season if someone told me that the Twins would be in first place by 2 games at the all-star break, I would have been ecstatic. Unfortunately they have shown over the past month that they are not likely to maintain their early season success. And even if they did, this team is not built for a long playoff run. Thus I will enjoy them for what they are (an average team) and hope I am pleasantly surprised if they outperform expectations.
  2. When was the last time any team was not "ecstatic" over the players they drafted? Optimism always rules the day. That said, glad to see the Twins appeared to draft some talented kids with high baseball acumen. Now, hopefully they stay healthy and are able to develop. Finding a catcher or two today to add to the pipeline would be nice.
  3. Glad to see the Twins version of Lance Lynn pitched for the Chisox at Target Field today... ? The Twins really needed that win today. Now lets get the split tomorrow!
  4. If Lewis did not get reinjured, I'd agree with you Cody that this is a position of strength. But because Buxton is often injured, it is not. The Twins are lucky to have Celestino and Gordon performing adequately this season after both struggled last season and Cave poorly trying to fill the role, or even Kepler playing out of position.
  5. This is going back a bit but for me it was Adam Johnson. Second overall pick in 2000 draft. I figured he would be a star since the Twins drafted him twice! Big, strong looking power arm who had a 9+ K/9 in the minors. The Twins pushed him quickly thru the system and he fell flat on his face once he reached The Show. Lots of ifs, I know, but imagine what the back of the Twins bullpen would look like with Duran IF Romero had panned out, IF they would have kept Graterol. Talk about bringing the heat. Move over Cincinnati's Nasty Boys... ?
  6. While Bell and Montas can help the Twins make the playoffs, I don't feel either moves the needle towards playoff success. Bell would likely be a rental and while I'd love to see the Twins add him so they can say goodbye to Sano, the price will likely be painful. Montas would be under team control for another year, but would also likely cost the Twins some of their anticipated future pieces.
  7. This series has started with 2 ugly loses. The bullpen is worn out. Bundy and Archer slated to start the next 2 games. This series has all the makings of a disaster for the Twins. Lets hope the Twins version of Lance Lynn shows up for the Sox today.
  8. Sherry I do appreciate your write-up! Thanks for doing them. One thing, however. You wrote " The All-Star who came under Twitter scrutiny the past few games for his ‘lack of hitting’ silenced the haters and keyed up the crowd after landing on third base cuing the “Buck Truck” horn. " Maybe I'm being overly sensitive here, but I don't think "haters" is an appropriate term to be using here. Concerned? Upset? Disappointed? - Sure. But IMO there is too much real hate in this world right now that using this term to describe how one feels about a ball players slump is concerning, IMO.
  9. My thought exactly. Barring injury there is no room for Sano on the roster unless the Twins drop a pitcher...
  10. Some good post game news is that Kirilloff was reported as being OK after his scare. https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/twins-alex-kirilloff-ok-after-collision/
  11. Gordan has been nice to have and should be a decent contributor going forward unless the Twins do something stupid like replace him (or Miranda or Kirilloff) with Sano. ?
  12. Cotton should be in the top 3 WPA. He kept the Twins in the game. Gray didn't struggle because Johnson left but because Sanchez was catching him. According to the radio broadcast this is the first time all season as apparently they did not do well together in New York. ?
  13. Is it just me or are the box score links not correct? I get spoiled by just linking to them here vs. finding them on MILB.com. ?
  14. I'm sorry but, while important, pitching is NOT ALL ABOUT STRIKEOUTS. Thus while promising and encouraging, I would not classify Varland's outing as great (as stated in the recap) nor do I feel it worthy of being pitcher of the day (Povich and Nunez were better IMO).
  15. I'd be fine with those postings, as long as it is not "Free Sano" (unless free means release)
  16. To early to tell yet, but Duffey returning to dependable would be huge for this team.
  17. If you are taking about making a trade from a position of strength, what about Polanco? Trading Jorge would assure more ABs for Arraez and potentially Miranda. He likely has more trade value than the others mentioned (except Correa who I would not move). Note I am not advocating this and would only do this if the Twins were able to get good value back. Lastly I'd rather DFA Sano than have him come back and take away ABs from Arraez, Miranda, Kirilloff, Larnach or even Garlick, Sanchez and Urshela.
  18. Glad the Twins "Freed Kiriloff" and he was able to a huge knock to break the game open. Larnach getting 2 hits is also encouraging. Scoring 11 runs without Buxton or Polanco in the lineup is VERY encouraging.
  19. That was a stinker all the way around. I could have been worse, but Duffey and Thornburg saves the rest of the pen.
