  1. Anyone know what is up with Martin? He has not played since Wednesday. Also - Strotman did not pitch yesterday, but that ugly line from his prior outing is showing. ?
  2. I was wondering the same thing. Are the Twins the only organization that has been impacted by a significant amount of injuries to their top prospects?
  3. It appears that Larnach brought his struggles at the plate with the Twins with him on his return to St. Paul. ☹️ I hope he can turn it around soon as having him and Rooker being misses will negatively impact the Twins' ability to return to competitiveness.
  4. Players with a history if injuries when they are young rarely become more durable as they age. Yes, there are exceptions. Paul Molitor might be one example, but it is not a good one for Buxton as Molitor became a full-time DH, and if Buxton did that it would definitely lower his overall value. That said, if they can sign him to a reasonable contract (i.e. one that does not prevent the team from improving in other areas), then they should do it. If not, trade him for the best offer they can get. If another team wants to offer him a significant amount of cash to be a part-time player, that is fine with me.
  5. The starting rotation has gone thru the similar churn since the start of the season due to injuries and ineffectiveness. Remember when the Twins had a logjam of starting pitching with Berrios, Happ, Shoemaker, Maeda, Pineada, Dobnak, Thorpe and Smeltzer? That seems like forever ago and only Maeda is on the active roster currently...
  6. Last year ESPN had it as #2 behind the 1975 Reds/Red Sox. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29104085/ranking-every-world-series-mlb-history#17
  7. It looks like the link to the Wichita box score is to an old game...
  8. As for Jax start, great to see him stringing together some solid starts - especially against some quality teams (HOU, CSOX). Very encouraging. I'd classify his start as solid, strong, encouraging, but not necessarily "brilliant". If you want brilliant, see Balazovic's start or the Twins bullpen's efforts last night.
  9. The power this board wields is amazing! Sabato gets lowered in the rankings and several lament his selection and his lack of power, and he goes out and hits two home runs! ?
  10. The link and the score line of the Saints game is from July 31. Saints Sentinel St. Paul 5, Indianapolis 6 Box Score
  11. I know starting pitching has been bad for the Twins this season, but I still can't convince myself that 3 runs over 5 innings (a 5.4 ERA) is a "solid" start...
  12. While Martin and Woods-Richardson are excellent gets, the only way I accept this trade as a success at this point is if the FO KNEW that there was no way they would be re-signing Berrios - which has been suggested. Otherwise trading your 1B/2A member of your rotation is not wise or a plan for success.
  13. That Shoemaker kid in AAA - maybe he can help the Twins staff. Oh wait - never mind ? On a serious note, glad to see Miranda back in the Saints line-up after his HBP scare yesterday.
  14. Great to see Miranda continuing to rake at AAA. Also great to see that Rortvedt's stint with the Twins did not negatively impact his confidence at the plate in AAA. Hopefully he can continue his success there and bring a "better bat" next time he comes back up.
  15. As much as I like Buxton, whoever decides to give him the big money long term is going to be paying a guy to spend a significant amount of time on the I.L. Because of this, $15M AAV plus incentives for staying on the field is that max I would go.
  16. Ugly night all around for the Top Prospects at the plate low-lighted by all the strikeouts. Hopefully they turn that around today!
  17. Those 4 runs/Grand Slam he gave up in the 9th against the mighty Tigers on Sunday must really have put him over the top in the eyes of the AL All Star brass.
  18. I know that people were not pleased when Elvis left the building, errr, ummm, Pressly was traded, and the trade certainly paid quick dividends for the Astros. I still have some hope, however, that Alcala can be a successful fixture in the Twins BP. Only time will tell.
  19. I agree with most of the comments above. Rogers has been solid but not spectacular. While it would be nice for him to get the recognition, I'm also fine with him getting some extra rest.
  20. AAA pitching staff tossing for the Twins today. Let me guess - Larnach's HR was with no one on. I know it is a small sample size, just don't get this. He hits very well with bases empty, but is one of the worst hitters in baseball with runners on. Hopefully he "grows out" of this! Here are those splits: RISP: .122 BA .122SLG .424OPS Men on: .162BA .206SLG .507OPS Bases empty: .321BA, .580SLG, .976OPS
  21. The Twins obtained Watson was part of the Brandon Kintzler trade to the Nats in 2017.
  22. Why does money seem to come up in these types of conversations? IMO Talent evaluation and development are much more important. If those are strong, you don't necessarily need a huge payroll (See Tampa and Oakland). Also the Twins needs to make wise choices on their own talent. Were some of the contracts they gave out recently (Sano, Kepler, Dobnak) mistakes? Possibly. Will be giving Buxton a huge contract be a mistake? Given his injury issues - probably. I'd leave towards "overpaying" Berrios given the state of the starting rotation. Bottom line - Falvine get a little more time to show progress, but not much.
  23. And the beatings will continue until moral improves... ? In addition to replacing Buxton, one would anticipate the Twins calling up another arm or two given significant usage of the bullpen over the past week.
  24. Hard to be optimistic that the Twins will be getting any pitching help from their system anytime soon. Like the big league club this season, the entire system seems to be plagued by injuries/ineffectiveness/inconsistency. SIGH....
  25. Coming into the season, I felt that the Twins with Maeda, Berrios, Pineada, Happ, Shoemaker, Thorpe, Smeltzer and Dobnak had one of the deepest starting rotation in all of baseball. That is 8 deep. I don't know of anyone who predicted that 7 of the 8 would have major issues, strongly contributing to this train wreck of a season.
