    Per Wikipedia, a series of shoulder and back injuries early in the 1991 season ended his effective pitching years. Bad for Stieb as he was a stud when he was right, but it may have helped out favorite team capture the championship that season.

    I am expecting, and certainly hoping for, a bounce back year for Larnach. So much so that he forces his way onto the Twins roster and into the lineup.

    I agree Whitey! The FO stunned us all with the signing of Correa, but this team is not a serious contender as it is currently constructed. We can hope and speculate all we want about who the FO may add to the rotation, but until that happens, Winder should get a long hard look.

    I am with you, Mike. I am one who compared Sano to Sanchez and I stick by it. While the advanced analytics are nice, I base my comparison on the results. They are both very low average high strike out power hitters who are at best below average defensively.

    Sanchez = Sano. Poor defensively and is all or nothing at the plate. Wonderful, just wonderful...

    I don't believe the article specified this and since I wanted to know, I thought I'd share (after I looked it up) that Sands was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 22nd round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft from North Florida Christian HS (Tallahassee, FL) and then redrafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 5th round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft from Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL).

    To answer Nick's original question - "What happens if the MLB Season gets delayed"? It all depends on HOW LONG it gets delayed...

    It is too early to give up on Sabato. However If he becomes the next Miguel Sano, will I be happy with the pick? Probably not due to the fact that - as others have mentioned - the need for pitching. The pick will look even worse if pitchers selected after him in the draft become solid major league contributors. Now if his bat makes him the next Miguel Cabrera, that is a different story. ?

    Adam Johnson. When you are the #2 overall pick in the draft and don't pan out - OUCH!

    While Nathan's vote total is disappointingly low, it is not a huge surprise - especially given his lack of post season success (even though that lack of success was not all on him). IMO that same lack of postseason success (and his lack of longevity) will likely keep Mauer out as well.

    IMO Donaldson is suffering from the same perception that Mauer did after signing his large contract - that his production will never be good enough to justify the contract. As long as it is perceived that, like Mauer, the Twins were not able to pay for/sign other players to help them win, then Donaldson will never "live up to" his contract.     I was not as upset as some over the Pressly at the time. He was good for the Twins, but went to the next level with the Astros. Would he have done that if he stayed with the Twins? Maybe. I also trusted the scouting reports of the experts on this site who felt the Twins might have obtained a couple of key pieces for "down the road". As Ted eloquently lays out, the "down the road" is now. Alcala has become s solid major league contributors, and lets hope that Celestino continues his development and becomes one also.

    Thanks Nick for the excellent assessments. One player I've been struggling with my own ranking is Martin. As a SS he is no doubt a top 5 asset - even with Lewis. However as an outfielder is he as valuable than say the young arms that the Twins really need to pan out?

    Excellent analysis. I'd be curious to see if there were any changes to his spin rates (especially on his curve ball), location and velocity. If there were, my next question would be if the "rule changes" regarding substance checking may have played into this. Bottom line, the Twins really need the 2019/2022 Duffey going forward.

    I'm keeping my eye on Sabato. He ended his season strong at Cedar Rapids. I'm hoping his bat continues to develop and he become a more consistent version of Sano.

    Due to my age, Carew was my first favorite Twin. He got me interested in baseball at a fairly early age. Then Kirby came along and my love of baseball exploded. I remember being in college when he came up. He had 4 hits in his first game against the Angels on the West Coast. Reggie Jackson called him "another slap hitter". Obviously he became much more than that. I liked Kirby so much that I ended up with a massive Kirby baseball card collection - nearly a thousand different cards at one point. I was heartbroken when Kirby had to retire too soon and again when he passed way too soon. For all the heartbreak that Minnesota sports fans have had to endure over the years, Kirby helped deliver the greatest highs. He was, in my mind, the greatest professional athlete to don a Minnesota uniform.

    IMO there is some solid depth here, which gives hope for success eventually...

    One of the thing that this series has revealed to me is that the Twins lack QUALITY depth (or top prospects) at several positions. Lots of maybes, wishes and hope they pan outs. To be successful beyond 2022 they need several players to develop into quality big league contributors including (but not limited to) Larnach, Rooker, Miranda, Martin, Lewis and possibly Celestino. That is a lot to hope for. Short of these guys panning out, trades or free agent signings will be needed. And this does not, of course, adress pitching...

    Based on this depth assessment, the Twins really need either Donaldson to find the fountain of youth for at least a few years or Miranda to pan out and be solid, and soon. I'm also thinking that either Martin or Lewis may need a spot eventually other than SS. Is 3rd base a possibility for either?

    Keep trying to put lipstick on this pig! My response to the question is hopefully the Twins will DFA him by the end of Spring Training.
