  1. Terrific explanation of the process - Thank you! I believe Twins fans will continue to have an enhanced sense of concern when we hear of a "Visa issue" surrounding one of the players after what happened to Romero given that a paperwork issue was really a stupidity issue...
  2. This is encouraging news as the Twins will need Rogers to be elite to be successful.
  3. I agree Gunn! Kepler and Sano (and Cave) are on notice as "the objects in their mirror are closer than they appear." Having a glut of high end hitters in the pipeline is never a bad thing to have - hence the decision of the Twins to jettison Eddie Rosario.
  4. @$@#$@%$^&!!!! Sorry for the language - how about "Gosh darn it"! Feel bad for Lewis as this will be two lost seasons in a row for him. As for Twins fans, my slogan for us is "The beatings will continue until morale improves..." Unfortunately WAAAYY too appropriate in this case. :-(
  5. I totally agree Doc - hopefully the Twins do not NEED any of these guys this season, but it is very comforting to see all them in the system. These guys plus the top prospects show the depth of the Twins system and bode well for long-term sustained success of the team. These guys could also provide trade bait to bring in quality MLB talent.
  6. My 80+ years old Aunt Stella (who is pictured in my profile) used to call him 3 swing Sano - strike one, strike two, strike three... That said, if Rocco has Sano hitting lower in the line-up (say 7th) and he can hit 30 dingers, play 120+ games and provide average MLB D at 1B, the Twins would be thrilled.
  7. IMO he is just taking up a spot on the 40 man and possibly blocking opportunities for the younger guys. Hopefully this will all get sorted out in S.T.
  8. I agree with the article regarding the F.O.s patience and savvy. They knew that: 1) From all reports Cruz likes playing in MN (with the current players and for the current coaching staff and the team is competitive) and the prospect of him not wanting to adjust to a new team/city played in their favor. 2) The odds were low that the Universal DH has going to happen, so Cruz' options were going to be limited. 3) Cruz had already made over $110M in his career, so money would like not be the biggest factor in his next contract. All of this (plus likely other factors) helped to contribute to how the negations went/ended up.
  9. Terrific piece Parker! Really appreciate the effort you put into this! I am one that thinks strikeouts "can" be over-rated, so this section of the article resonated with me. "In 2016, he struck out 31% of batters faced. That rate has steadily declined each season since. During his first year with the White Sox, he told reporters that the reason this happened was because he had switched his focus from strikeouts to getting hitters out in three pitches or less. This meant more contact in the zone and more balls in play." Colome's stats bear out the success he has had with this approach - especially his WHIP being right around 1 each of the past 3 seasons. A guy with this sparkling WHIP plus a low HR/9 (Colome did not give up a single HR in 2020) will always be welcome in my bullpen!
  10. As it stands now, on paper, offensively Rocco will have plenty of options as to who he pencils into the lineup every game. Where he is going to have issues in having enough quality arms in the BP to call on - especially with starters going fewer and fewer innings. Thus I hope the FO is not done with their roster tweaks just yet.
  11. The problem is that I don't feel the pitching IS better - definitely not the bullpen after losing Clippard, Wisler, May and Romo, and only adding Robles,
  12. Getting Cruz back in the fold is a no-brainer IMO if the price is right. I also feel like the Twins need to add a another solid late-inning arm to the pen after losing Clippard, Wisler, May and Romo, and only adding Robles, in order to be able to compete with the ChiSox.
  13. I totally agree JLease. K's are great, but if he comes in and gives up hits in key situations, that does the Twins no good. I believe Stashak will be given opportunities in higher leverage situations early in the season and how he performs during those opportunities will determine how many more he gets.
  14. La Tortuga’s Dive - Check out Willians Astudillo making a nice catch in left field down in the Venezuelan Winter League. And the turtle did NOT stuck on his back when he rolled over... Well done Willians!
  15. While I could see what he was trying to do, this was not one of MacPhail's best moments (He had MANY good ones)! Had Herr wanted to play in Minnesota, perhaps this would have worked out better for the Twins. To make things worse the Twins after the 1988 season traded Herr, Eric Bullock, and Tom Nieto to the Phillies for a washed up Shane Rawley and cash. I hope the cash was significant as Rawley went 5-12 with a 5.12 ERA and 1.566 WHIP in his only season with the Twins, which was his last season in MLB.
  16. Hopefully it is how to stay healthy/on the field - which was one of Brunansky's strengths and part of the reason why he had the HR numbers he did. Bruno played at least 150 games and had over 600 at-bats in each of his 5 full seasons with the Twins. Imagine how much better the Twins would be if Buxton could play that much...
  17. I sure hope they are not done with constructing next season's roster, because the roster shown above is a .500 team, finishing in 3rd place in the AL Central.
  18. Currently the deepest position on the Twins, IMO, which is a big reason they parted ways with Rosario. Hopefully the stud prospects will develop into strong contributors at the MLB level soon, and be a couple of the cornerstones for the Twins over the next decade.
  19. When news broke of Romero's visa issues last spring, I was seriously concerned and rightly so. Given baseball is his career and livelihood, these issues should not happen unless there was a major issue with Romero. Perhaps we will never know the full story but the issues with Romero were serious enough for the Twins to give up on what was once a very highly valued prospect. I hope he figures things out and can comeback and have a successful career.
  20. Parker - I totally agree with this, and thanks again for the research you put into this article. My point is there are other critical items to be consider when assessing the strength of a pitching staff, and it seems like, at times, that SO's are all that some on this site care about from the Twins staff. And yes - the Twins pitching had a very strong year in many categories this season (4th in ERA, ERA+ and WIP, 2nd in FIP, 1st in HR/9), etc. Several of the things you mentioned in your article likely assisted those as well. These positive stats however, makes their playoff flop even more dumbfounding and frustrating.
  21. Good article with lots of background/history. I've said it before and I will say it again - Twins pitchers throwing strikeouts are great, but this does not always equate to success - especially in the playoffs. Proof of this is in those same rankings where Tampa, LA Dodgers, Astros, Yankees, A's and Braves all had lower SO% than the Twins and they all fared better in the post season.
  22. This is one of MANY decisions that the Twins will need to make over the next few months. They are heading for a major turnover of their roster with Odorizzi, Hill, Bailey, Clippard, May, Romo, Gonzalez, Adrianza, Avila, Rosario, Wisler and Cruz all possibly departing. Many decisions will be made on how confident the team is with the players in the system as well as the availability and cost of free agents or trade targets It will be very interesting to see how all this plays out...
