  1. The inability to sign one of the top free agent arms (besides Odorizzi and Pineda) does not surprise me at all. After the Twins signed Odorizzi and Pineda, there was much chatter on these boards about getting TWO more "top of the rotation" arms. My response to that was "if you expect that to happen, you have not been following the Twins for the past 50 years." Can they trade for another solid starter? I sure hope so, but if the do not, again, I'm not going to be surprised...
  2. Looks like he can can play some 1B as well, so having his there for a few spot starts is nice flexibility to have on the roster.
  3. I like the signing. I will *really* like the signing if it does not prevent them from landing a high in the rotation starter via trade or free agency, and the Twins are successful in doing just that.
  4. I totally agree with this being the most likely scenario. Those who think the Twins will sign/trade for 2 front line starters have not followed the team for the past 50 years.
  5. I say let them start the season with Sano and Polanco in their current roles, and use any $ to sign quality starting pitching.
  6. While I was reading this I was wondering aloud if the hitters would be able to catch-up to the changes May and Duffey made, thereby reducing their effectiveness next season. While the answer is "probably", some of the changes should be somewhat insulated from from that - like Duffey's new curve being effective because it looks more like his fastball. Also, as the hitters adjust, May and Duffey need to continue to adjust.
  7. I agree this a good deal all around. He gets a nice $8M+ pay raise for a reward for a very good season. Also very smart use of the QO for this Twins.
  8. Thanks for the analysis Jamie! The pitch mix is interesting to me. I understand that the Pitching coach, catcher, pitchers etc put together a game plan as to how to attack the hitters, but who actually calls each pitch? My feeling is it is not necessarily Jose that typically decides what pitch he throws, so any improvement done via a change in the pitch mix would need to be a "team" effort.
  9. The results of the first two games are not surprising to me. That does not make them any less disappointing...
  10. The Twins still have things to do prior to the playoffs. 1) Rest your starters and get healthy - esp. Kepler and Gonzalez and I'll add Garver to this given the way he has been looking at the plate lately. 2) Win the HR title 3) Win the 100th game.
  11. Does LaMarre get any consideration if the opponent is loaded with left handed pitching - especially if Cron is unable to go? Dude has an OPS of around 1100 against lefties this season (minors and majors combined).
  12. Hard to believe that one MLB team can beat another 17 straight times during a season\, but that is what Cleveland has done to Detroit. Maybe Gardy had his boys tanking against the Tribe in order to "get back" at the team that fired him...
  13. True - but they also put another win in the bank. A win would be great today, but they already won the series and this has been the blueprint for most of the season. It would be nice to get some good more innings out of Odo, get a nice lead and let Alcala make is big league debut.
  14. #29 on the list is too low. He appears to possess some of the same gifts at the plate as the player pictured in my member photo, so in that case #29 is good!
  15. Don't forget Greinke. Verlander, Cole and Greinke are why I'm leaning towards - *GASP* - preferring to play the Yankees in the Divisional series...
  16. Agreed! If this was to happen, I was hoping that they would have brought up Kiriloff - especially with Kepler hurting and Rosario still not looking quite right.
  17. The bad news - Berrios is still not quite right. The good news - the Twins will finish a 10 game road trip with either an excellent 8-2 or 7-3 record. More good news - arguable the Twins best two starting pitchers - Big Mike and Odo are lined up to face the Indians.
  18. I have mixed feelings on Rosario. His defense is clearly not up to par this season, and yes - he does look foolish at times at the plate. He has, however, come up with some of the most clutch hits of the season - second maybe only to Kepler. I also feel that his digression may somewhat be contributed to his ankle injury.
  19. I was hoping that the Twins would have sent Romero a message similar to what they sent Buxton last season. The slight of not being promoted seemed to work for Buxton. Perhaps Romero needed a similar kick in the pants, er - um motivation.
  20. Is Romero going to be this years version of Buxton? A player who was expecting to be a September call-up but the Twins elect not to do so? I understand the circumstance may be different with Service Times, etc., but maybe that is the kick in the pants Fernando needs to turn things around for next season.
