  1. Not that they were seriously considering it, but I feel that Kirilloff's potential is a reason (there are several others) that the Twins would not pursue Bryce Harper.
  2. Nick you said "After reaching agreement with all of their arbitration eligible players last week, the Twins have solidified their projected 2019 payroll at around $96 million. That's about $30M below where they were last year (which was just below the MLB average), so needless to say they've got spending flexibility." I may hbe off base here, but do we know for sure that the Twins are able to / planning on spending more than the $96M they are at? When I look around Target Field, I'm seeing more and more empty seats. I also believe that their season ticket holder and corporate sponsor base is diminishing. If I'm ownership and are seeing that, I might not be so quick to add too much to the payroll. I certainly hope that is not the case...
  3. Thanks for posting this Thiéres and welcome to the fun! I tend to agree with some of the posters who blamed Molitor's mis-use of the bullpen for some of the struggles a few guys had the second half of the season (Reed and Hildy). We will have to wait and see how Rocko does in this area. I also feel it is good to have options, and the above list does give us a bit of that. I also agree that the addition of one more decent bullpen arm will go along ways to making this team competitive to make the playoffs, but not relevant to do anything if they get these.
  4. Mike: I was thinking something similar. Yes - the pitching is certainly better than 2013, but how much of the increased K/9 and swing/miss rates can be contributed to the hitters approach in general across the league. Yes - the Twins pitchers are striking out more batters, etc., but so are most other pitchers.
  5. While I certainly see and agree with the negatives, adding Santana's veteran Hispanic leadership could be of significant benefit - depending on the deal (of course).
  6. I agree blindeke - UNLESS it prevents some additional, long-term signings.
  7. I find it interesting that there was no mention of the Baldelli hire on MLB.com. I understand that the World Series is front and center - and it should be - but you figure they could at least they could have a small news snippet. ESPN did just that, BTW.
  8. My only question is what kind of track record does he have with Hispanic players? If he is light in that area, a coach on his staff needs to have the ability to communicate well with and get the most out of Hispanic players given the critical role will play in the Twins future.
  9. Great article, but extremely depressing. It is difficult to identify even a handful of players who can be relied on next season on this roster. It gets even more depressing when you compare the Twins "core" to the other teams that made the playoffs (or were even competitive) this season. Quite the change in outlook after a season where they were on the rise and made the playoffs.
  10. Encouraging update. I'm much less concerned that Sano was out at 3 AM if indeed he was WITH HIS WIFE. This is a huge off-season for Sano and the Twins, and the initial report seemed to be getting that off-season off to a horrible start. That said, I still would put finding an everyday 3rd baseman high on the priority list if I was Twins management.
  11. I will give it a shot. Can't say for certain if this is 100% accurate... Field Garver Astudillo Cave Lamarre Graterol Motter (?) Magill Romero Littell Moya De Jong Gonsalves Stewart Slegers Vasquez Curtiss Busenitz Enns Kinley
  12. Tom: This clarification is helpful. Spending three paragraphs in your update singing the praises of our SPs striking out so many guys this year is hollow given the disaster that this season has turned out to be. Disclaimer - I'm not a big K/9 stat fan (can you tell :-)) Finally - thanks to you and ALL the T.D. writers for your tireless efforts again this season. I thoroughly enjoy the daily updates and the articles/blogs/forums.
  13. If the Sanchez would have broken camp with the Twins, there would have been a mass exodus of fans from Target Field. Oh, wait - that happened anyway...
  14. Yup - Sano's value goes from nearly none to almost none if he makes this transition. If they can't get Mauer at a reasonable price, resign Esco to be your everyday 3B and see if Sano can handle a IB/DH combo.
  15. Anyone know if the two Graterol's in the Twins org are related? I know they are both from Venezuela and it is not an over common name...
  16. Frankly I've seen enough of Sano for the year as well. After a little positive blip on his return, he has posted the following over the past week (or should I say weak). STATS Last seven days AB - 17 R - 1 H - 2 2B - 0 3B - 0 HR - 1 RBI - 2 BB - 3 SO - 10 Ave - .118 Still major questions as to if he can be relied on going forward.
  17. Agreed! Gonsalves was VERY fortunate to have given up only one run prior to Lucroy's bomb. I know we want to be positive, but he has not looked good thus far. He really needs to fine tune his command if he is going to be successful at this level. The good news is Berrios was dreadful in his first several starts and he has turned it around. Hopefully "Stove" can as well.
  18. In the write-up Ted said "Byron Buxton was back in the lineup for the Red Wings in this one. He’s yet to play on back-to-back days, but did go 0-4 in this one. Each plate appearance ended with a ball put in play, and the assumption would be that he’ll be recalled by the Twins within the next week or so." WHY???? I know there was a string about this a few weeks ago, but Buxton has shown nothing over the past several weeks to indicate he should be called. up. This season is lost for him and the Twins. Give him an early start on the off season and hopefully he can come back stronger (mentally and health wise) next Spring.
  19. Thanks for the recap, Tim. One thing to correct - Hildy pitched the 9th, but the bullpen usage chart above does not show this.
  20. Is there a reason that Rochester continues to employ the "opener" pitcher scenario? The last two times the "opener" has been lit up for 3 runs and the "starter" has come in and pitcher well.
  21. It seems that the Twins did not need Shohei Ohtani after all. We have Mitch Garver - he can hit, pitch AND catch!
  22. Good to see the upward movement of Larnach. He and Jeffers can be the "Bash Brothers" in Cedar Rapids.
