  1. Mejia was likely off his game a bit due to the disappointment that Phil Hughes was being tabbed to start on Sunday or the Twins instead of him.
  2. Replay / review aided the Twins as well. Without that, Buxton is caught stealing and the Twins likely do not score the 2 runs in the 3rd. That made it a different ballgame.
  3. If it means that Phil Hughes gets more starts, then H-E-Double Hockey sticks YES, I'm worried about Santana.
  4. I have to agree with several of the comments on Rodney. Having a 41 year old close games makes me nervous. His stats last year, other than K/9, for the most part are a step backwards from Kintzler. The Twins did improve the arms around him however, so the bullpen as a whole is certainly stronger. hopefully there will be LOTS of save opportunities this season!
  5. I was thinking the same thing, Clutter. Add to that Rosario's health and Sano's potential suspension and there are still plenty of questions that need to be worked out over the next two weeks.
  6. I hope he is more Jack Morris type bulldog than Carl Pavano at the end of his time with the Twins. Bert would slobber all over Carl's bulldog attitude to hang in there (and get shelled game after game).
  7. Agreed, Bobs! And if Pressly struggles, Elvis better be leaving the building quickly in favor of one of those up and coming bullpen arms.
  8. Now if his first name was Freddie instead of Lance, I'd have more interest...
  9. That is the question of the day, Walter! One answer may be the security it brings him. Signing a long term deal means Buxton is also protecting himself - which as we have seen based on his play and health - may not be a bad thing. Its the old bird in the hand vs. the two in the bush analogy.
  10. I'm not sure if he qualifies as a "lost minor leaguer" , but it will be interesting if Buddy Boshers can stick with and contribute to the Astros this season. I know the new additions to the pen made him expendable, but he could find himself in a real nice new situation with the defending World Champs.
  11. I'm pulling for Granite. He gives the Twins much more flexibility than Grossman. I'm also pulling for a healthy "unsuspended" Sano. This gives the Twins additional flexibility and a much deeper batting order.
  12. When you mentioned Bad Odor I thought the article was about Colon (cologne).
  13. Excellent summary Ted! One other thing the Twins did this off season is add these pieces without mortgaging the future both in terms of prospects traded and large $/length contracts.
  14. I fully understand this stat, but I wonder if it has the same meaning for all the hitters. I can imagine that Puckett and Vlad G.'s O-Swing% was very high, but that was part of their strength. Not saying any of the current Twins have the same ability, but to me Rosario is the closest. There have been times when he has burned opposing pitchers by successfully hitting close, but out of the zone pitches.
  15. Thanks for the thoughts Jamie. To me Mejia is a wildcard for 2018. I really hope he can step up and grab a rotation spot for two reason. 1) It gives the Twins a lefty starter. 2) It allows some of the young guys (Gonsalves, Romero, etc.) more (likely needed) time to develop in AAA. Come on Alalberto - grab this opportunity and run with it!
  16. Agreed - lets keep him as a starter! Go Fernando!
  17. Good news all around - especially if Gibson was also signed. I never like the arbitration battles as it can sour the relationship between players and management. According to BP/Cots, it looks like if you add the Arbitration guys and the additional salaries for 0-3 year players, it looks like the Twins are around $97M payroll wise. That makes me feel they have some additional room for free agents - I hope... http://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/american-league/minnesota-twins
  18. Seth mentioned - "It's another creative move for the Twins brass, and it doesn't necessarily stop them from doing anything else." If that is *really* true, then I'm fine with this role of the dice.
  19. I stated a few days ago that the Twins chances of signing Ohtani were slim and none. Unfortunately I was right. At least he eliminated the Yankees and Red Sox also.
