What Happens when Polanco and Kirilloff Return?
puckstopper1 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One possibility you did not mention is pulling the plug on Kepler. His "slump" at the plate is now entering a 4th season. If Kirilloff, Gallo and Larnach are all healthy and hitting, Max might find himself as the odd man out... -
Twins 3, Astros 2: Farmer Walks Off the Astros!
puckstopper1 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Totally agree on the elite defense, Joe but the Twins did not give Correa all that cash for his glove. And I REALLY hope you are right on the hitting picking up. The Twins really need that.- 68 replies

Twins 3, Astros 2: Farmer Walks Off the Astros!
puckstopper1 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
SSS but the Mets and the Giants are looking like they made the right move by not giving Correa all that cash. Three whiffs and GIDP today. Very Sano like. The Twins will definitely need more offense as the season moves forward, and Correa needs to be a significant part of that.- 68 replies

@Matt Braun wrote "Old friends Akil Baddoo and Matt Wisler played for Toledo. Baddoo walked once in four plate appearances while Wisler pitched a scoreless inning." Don't forget about our old friend / former Twin and Saint Jermaine Manuel Palacios!

Sorry Omgbenji - it is not just 2 games for Kepler. It is the last 3 seasons and 2 games that he has been putrid at the plate.

How long before we see an article here on T.D. detailing out how NOT having the shift is hurting Kepler's production. And And after 3 seasons of putrid productivity at the plate, Rocco keeps batting him first. In looking at the current roster, I'd release Kepler if/when Kirilloff returns...

Thanks Nick for another fabulous write-up/season primer. Every team has some questions at this point in the season, and the Twins are no different. I am hopeful that the good breaks outpace the bad ones this season and the Twins can be the Best of the Worst (AL Central Champions). PLAY BALL!

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
puckstopper1 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Fair enough, JD. Totally agree that Pagán & López as the biggest suspect choices in our Pen. I do have concerns about how Alcala bounces back from his elbow injury. Hopefully the starters can (and are allowed to) go longer than last season which was one of the biggest issues with the bullpen - especially in the first half of the season.- 47 replies

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
puckstopper1 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO aside from Duran, there are still way to many questions/concerns with the bullpen. I understand that this is the case for most teams, but hopes/wishing seems more needed for the Twins. Lopez essentially had a fantastic half-season (before the Twins traded for him). Can he repeat that? Maybe, but his performance before that was brutal. Can Alcala bounce back after injury and be effective? Can Thielbar continue his magic? Possibly. Can Jax continue his strong progressing? Hopefully. Can Pagan harness his stuff and be effective? Doubtful. Hoffman, Megill, Moran - really unsure of what we will get from them.- 47 replies

Ranking the Twins Top-5 Hit Tool Prospects: 2023
puckstopper1 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Was a similar current/future grading done with Arraez? I'd be curious to see his grades as he progressed thru the system as a means of comparison to the current Twins prospects.- 14 replies

The Night Luis Arraez Blew Up Baseball
puckstopper1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The game was fabulous to watch on TV, so I can only imagine what the atmosphere was like in the stadium itself. It is awesome to attend games where there are a significant amount of fans for both teams. Ex Twins certainly impacted the game - positively and negatively. Hopefully Team U.S.A. can keep it going - especially after such a hard-fought, emotional victory.- 41 replies

As long as it is not Cave or Garlick DHing, I'm fine with a rotation especially since there is not a prototypical DH on the roster.

One Twins Power Prospect Still Waiting to Breakout
puckstopper1 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Sabato is Sano 2.0 (2020-2022 version) at best. Unfortunately the path he is on will have leave him as a first round bust. -
Is This Where Byron Buxton’s Injuries End?
puckstopper1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As I mentioned in Cody's injury article earlier this week, Buxton is the most critical member of this team that needs to stay healthy. As shown above, if he is able to accomplish that, he can be a top 5 WAR player given his offensive and defensive abilities. A healthy Buxton gives the Twins a real shop at the Central. -
While the others are important to have healthy and contributing, to me is begins and ends with Buxton. What a healthy Buxton brings to this team in terms of offense and defense is enormous. He could be a top 5 WAR player IF he can stay healthy.

Where is Joe Mauer’s Benefit of Perception?
puckstopper1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
JM: Good takes. I appreciate them. My point about the small market is that it is one of the things that is working against Mauer. Should it be? Absolutely not. But given that he did play in a small market, he had less national exposure. When he did have that national exposure (in the playoffs) they Twins had little success. These facts plus that facts that the Twin Cities media was regularly savaging him will not help his cause. Don't get me wrong - Mauer was the total package in his prime (sans a bit of power maybe). But the items above certainly will play against him.- 38 replies
