    JHam - Yes, Gonsalves was a bit wild yesterday, and the 3 walks helped to inflate his WHIP to a whopping 1.00 for the season. We know what we have in Gibby, Hector, and Colon, and they should have no part of a contenting team. We don't fully know what we have in Gonsalves, but he is most likely part of the future. That is why people are anxious to see what he can do in AAA or the Bigs.

    Actually getting to the bullpen at all with a lead has been tough given the issues with the majority of the starting pitching.

    Kintzler's success is awesome, but it does create a dilemma with the Twins. He is a Free Agent at the end of year. He is also arguably the most valuable trade chip that the Twins have. So what do they do? What could he bring back in a trade? What would it cost the Twins to keep him?

    What is the deal with Park? Is he still not healthy? He certainly hasn't set the world on fire in AAA. It would not shock me if we has back in Korea next year.

    Agreed, Mike, and the numbers at the highest level bear this out. 2017 (so far) - Team ERA = 4.41 (21st); Team Fielding % = .989% (2nd) 2016 - Team ERA = 5.08 (29th); Team Fielding = .979 (29th) Thus one could hypothesize that the pitching has actually regressed a bit, especially with the bloated ERAs of those who are being trotted out to the mound regularly. Thing might be REALLY scary if the defense had stayed the same as last year.

    Sano at 3rd and Polanco at SS have exceeded expectations defensively this year. Castro has also been an upgrade behind the plate. Add those 3 players to the 3 Cody wrote about and it is not surprising that the defense has improved significantly.

    To me the most shocking stat is that the Twins are in first place in spite of an 11-13 home record, Dozier's slow start, two fifths of their Opening Day starting rotation "sent to the minors", Hughes 5.74 ERA and 1.511 WHIP, Buxton, Gimenez and Castro all hitting .200 or under, Tonkin DFAed, Belisle and Pressly with ERAs above 6.50 and the departure of DanSan. Well, maybe not the last one... Nick's article and some of comments are some of the reason to balance these numbers, but it is still shocking to me that the Twins are in first place and over a month ahead of their win pace from a year ago.

    Thorpe on the mound for the first time in two years yesterday, Gonsalves on the hill for the first time this season, today. The pitching in the minor leagues just became significantly more intriguing to follow.

    Glad to see that Gordon has made strides this year. He is the one player I look for in the MILB boxscores each day, and have liked what I've seen thus far, at the plate. As a 5th overall pick he needs be a key piece of the Twins future. I don't mind seeing him play a few spots in the infield. The more flexibility the better. Keep it up Nick!

    I keep hearing about putting Duffy in the rotation. How many innings could he go? I'd be shocked if he could go more than 3 or 4. Then you would need to replace him with a long reliever. Is that Gibson at this point?

    Agreed Wooly! This is something I've been mentioning as well. Without Park or Vargas on the roster, and with Castro also being a left handed hitter, (so Gimenez replaces him against tough lefties), it mean more Mauer. Unless you play Grossman, Santana (both who have not played first in MLB prior or Sano out of position.

    Immediately followed by "he just dropped the head of the bat...." on a pitch low in the strike zone that got launched into the 2nd deck.

    Thrylos: Is you give Santiago the last spot in the bullpen, how does he get stretched out to start? Long relievers don't get consistent enough work to do this. Thus if he is to be a starter this year, I believe he needs to go to Rochester to get stretched out.

    I liked that the Twins brought him in for a look (no risk). I like the fact that he provided some mentoring to the younglings (flashing those World Series rings lends to his credibility) I REALLY like that they let him go when it was determined he could not help the team.

    I've been pulling for Wimmers since the Twins drafted him. Was glad he got the proverbial "cup of coffee" last season. Although I don't believe he will get to come north with the team this Spring, he could be a good future bullpen option, and you can never have too many of those.

    The waiver talk has to do with Park, not May. If they add Park to the 40 man, they would have to put him thru waivers (again) to remove him. Thus I believe Respy was saying that the Twins better be darn sure that Park is in their future to add him to the 40 man.

    "The beatings will continue until morale improves" does not even begin to express my disappointment for this injury. %@%%%#$%%#$%! is more like it.

    I'm not sure of having 5 outfielders AND Santana on the roster. I suppose that gives them room to flex up to 13 pitchers if needed.

    I believe this is close, Thrylos. The only concern I have/clarification I need is who is your back-up at 1B? I know people throw out Sano's name, but he has played first a total of 14 inning in his professional career. That is like 2 innings PER YEAR. Thoughts?
