Just to get them slightly uncomfortable at the plate; move their feet just a bit. Also, do it to Judge or Stanton and the others will take notice.....

From Twins side, I'd start with corner outfielder (Larnach or Walner, can we afford Em R?). Then add a "near" major league starting pitcher (SWR or Varland). Then add a low level mid-to-top prospect (one of the newly drafted K's, Keaschall...) See if this would get it done..... If I was the Marlins, I'd want these 3 and then another excellent lower tier pitcher.

My Question: Does B Buxton's batting stance have anything to do with the injury to his right knee? He is so loaded up on that knee when he is in his batting stance and then he springs forward to hit the ball. Very similar to R Lewis' "old" batting stance and similar injuries

Can Trevor Larnach Solve His Problem with Soft Stuff?
PatG replied to Hunter McCall's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Have Larnach play Pepper an hour a day, with pitcher just throwing (slow) breaking balls. This activity helps the batter with the small muscles of the hands, arms and shoulders. It is also a concentration exercise for the brain (prob the most important); the batter "sees" the pitchers arm going through with a "curve ball" motion. -
More free agents out there than a typical year; although the Royals, Tigers and Cardinals are sucking up those #3-#5 starters. How will this affect the Twins getting more pitching? love the Julien and have noticed that Lee takes some at-bats to get adjusted to the upgraded level of pitching (AA, then AAA then Bigs?). Walner seems to be getting better as he goes forward. I do hold out some hope for Larnach (RBI man!) and Miranda; I like those dudes. Remember first half last year, nobody hit (Julien?). It took Royce coming out to spur some hitting; he spurred the hitting even in the playoffs. None of the veterans spurred the hitting. I believe that is why I like getting the young guys up in the bigs (Lee and company). Let's see what these young guys have before Rodriguez, Jenkins, Keaschall et al, are ready.

What is the possiblity.....a different Boras client
PatG replied to PatG's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I love Grenkie, graduated same high school. He has pitched so poorly of late, that I'm not sure he has value as a starter. Keep thinking back to Archer, Bundy (hope for 5 good innings). I look at Kershaw in the same way we've looked at Maeda, Kuechel, and even Ober (hopefully not Ryan); where there seems to be a ceiling on the number of innings pitched. Been a Twins fan a long time, I remember when Viola, Gaetti, Hrbek were single A training in Orlando (Tinker Field). This the first time ever where it seems like the Twins can deal from strength (ie many talented infielders). Trading Julien for a "Lopez-type" pitcher is like lightning striking again; Arraez was AL batting Champ, then NL Champ. Would it take Julien to be the batting champ to get that Lopez again? -
Hi TD, What do you think is the possibility of having a different Boras client sign with the Twins? How about Clayton Kershaw? I know he is a Dodger at heart and from the heart of Texas (somewhere)... But, we can dream. After all, who thought that Correa (Boras client) would sign with the Twins. What would it take? 2 years $20M per year; 2 years $25M per year? Our take is that we'd like him to pitch, at most, 140-150 innings per year (Rocco's 5 innings per outing) and keep him healthy with that workload. I wonder if the FO is even asking the question...Would you like Kershaw at 2 years, $20 or $25 M per?

About Gray, as well as he pitched, the Twins lost about as many games as they won with him on the mound. Is it possible to replace Gray and Maeda with D Keuchel, Mahle, Dobson?? Urias from Dodgers?

Pump the Brakes On These Prospects
PatG replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree 100% about the quality of his bat (runs, OPS, HRs, etc); I guess that is why I thought we should trade him for a fantastic starting pitcher; could we hope to get something as valuable as Lopez back? Could we hope for Lopez's and Gray's health of 2023? My point: we have players ready to step into Julien's shoes (Lewis, Lee, even Miranda and Martin); we don't have someone ready to step into Gray's shoes (Varland? Ryan?)- 97 replies

The Clock Has Struck Midnight for Trevor Larnach
PatG replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not quite midnight.... New Analytical Parameter: "RBI per At Bat", Larnach is King, not even close. Introduce Larnach to the term ".300 hitter", have Larnach play "pepper" for an hour a day using only curve balls- 52 replies

Royce Lewis Reflects On an Incredible Season
PatG replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The thing that can't be forgotten: He is a .300 hitter, and he stayed there even after those granny's. I believe Sano forgot that part after his HR derby with the Judge..... Hopefully, Miranda, Larnach, Martin, Julien, Correa etc can remember that term: a .300 hitter.... -
Is a Comeback on the Horizon for Joe Ryan in 2024?
PatG replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I say add bulk through the weight room. Yoga is fine, but I believe you need something to work with first (ie "old fat dude who turns it into muscle"). The added bulk will help his velocity and make the secondary pitches better. -
I would like Paul Goldschmidt more than any of these 4 dudes. I think in terms of 2-3 years in the baseball world. PG would help immensely in this timeframe.

Beautiful article! A step further: What do we need? Big bopper Right-handed professional hitter (eg JD Martinez, N Castellanos, J Abreu/Y Alverez, P Goldschmidt). Now is the time to pounce; Trade E Joulian and either Larnach/Wallner to St Louis for P Goldschmidt (similar to last year's Arreaz for Lopez trade). Lee at 2B this coming year!!

Offseason Status Update: Time to Pivot
PatG replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hello TD faithful, hate to comment on the emperor's wardrobe, but... the Twins ARE currently in a full re-build. Just about to get to the other side. A team that finishes with a rookie leading the team in RBIs and a rookie leading the team in Wins is in a full re-build. (by definition?) Remember last year at this time? We had signed D Bundy? We were looking at a 110 Loss team! The FO plan to have a plethora of Major League ready pitchers (AAA, AAAA n MLB) and have them compete for innnings is working (Cleveland model). Pitching isn't the problem. We need a big bopper, think a Sano that can actually hit the ball. Abreu would have been good. ACTIONS: 1) trade Kepler and Polanco; they have trade value and we have plenty of replacements for these dudes, 2) Sign another CF, perhaps A McCutchen or M Brantley (not really a center fielder, but great hitter), 3) Sign another BP dude (T May, T Rogers come to mind) Please temper expectations. MLB is just not fair. Also, during the regular season, the Twins need to play mind games when we play the big boys, at least PRETEND that you are in a playoff series (Cleveland, Dodgers, Y (Sp) ankies obliterated the Twins in certain key series last year. We are almost there TD faithfu!- 38 replies

When was the last time a team made the playoffs having a rookie lead the team in RBIs and Wins? Just doesn't really happen. Miranda was put in the position of batting cleanup much of the time. As a rookie, he probably should have been hitting 7th or possibly 9th (nice segue to 1st hitter). Miranda definitely did a lot of good, but the other team went after him a bunch, he didn't come through sometimes. Ryan looks like he needs to put on some weight in the shoulder area.

Ranking the Top-5 Twins by Trade Value
PatG replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I were the Angels with Trout's back issues, I might really ask for Kepler as he can play center field and can hit pretty well, The Twins might trade Polanco (Arraez/Gordon/Miranda to man 2B). I don't think Buxton or Ryan should be included on this list. (I like these players)- 29 replies

Which Twins Regular is More Untouchable?
PatG replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like both players. The real question: Who to keep or trade between Miranda, Kiriloff and T Larnach. Can we keep all three? (I say yes) At this point, I would ask the Angels about Noah Syndergaard; How about a Kepler and/or Polanco with prospect Steer/Walner. Then work like heck to re-sign Noah Syndergaard Trading Polanco would free up Arraez for full-time duty at 2B (hide his slight defensive liabilities)- 32 replies
