  1. Dumb question: Why don't the Twins just play E Rodriguez at RF right out of spring training?
  2. I am struck by the similarities between Buxton and Lewis as far as injuries, playing time and maturity. I think by letting him settle down, show his stuff, we'll get a much greater R Lewis (just like Buxton of 2025).
  3. Will the players be locked out after the 2026 season and are the Pohlads getting ready for this? I read on "some social media site" that the owners want a salary cap and will lock out the players till they get it.
  4. Most excellent answer and very accurate; except if the Twins want to actually compete next year, yes in 2026.... Bout Mathews, I think he should be moved to pen to concentrate more on each pitch. To me, it seems like he isn't "ultra-zoned" in on (committed?) to each pitch. Here we go: I believe by moving him to the pen to pitch every other day (without fail), he would mature quicker and home in on every pitch of his most excellent pitching arsenal. Then, begin the process of stretching him out to 2-3 innings (30-50 pitches) per outing and voila, you have an excellent 5-inning pitcher (Twins starter). This process would necessarily take about 4 weeks.... This process could be repeated with the pitchers with stuff (eg Abel, Bradley)
  5. Besides Festa, I would start thinking about moving Zebby Mat to the bullpen. I think he'd be a better "Varland" very quickly. 1-2 closers Festa and Mathews. Mathews might tick up a couple mph with move.....
  6. Could someone again tell me why McCusker isn't up (striking out) with the big club???? I am looking for any spark that will come to the Twins (I know the "end-of-season" spark is coming) Hmmm, how to get Outman back 2 years ago...Perhaps we could get him to change his name to "GetOnBase"Man......(Irony....I've seen it on TD before)
  7. I hate to quibble (really, I love to quibble), but: Fitzgerald is 31, Gasper 29, Keirsey 28, Julien, Martin 26. (ERod 22, Cardenas 25) We've seen Keirsey and Julien at the big league level (Hitting?? Competitive??), Gasper as well. Fitzgerald is in his "20 game" try-out. Martin seems like a keeper. Why haven't we seen Cardenas and ERod (I know, Injury). McCusker strikes out a bit more, but hits Home Runs way more (RBIs). His OPS was a lot higher earlier in the year. Seems like his "call up" kind of messed with his confidence. Why not try to get 5 years of the guy? I'm probably wrong, but this team needs a spark.......
  8. At this point, does is it seem like a weird, wild idea to bring up McCusker and actually give him a "20 game" chance? Is Roden (fill in your player) the person we want to give a chance? Can someone explain why McCusker isn't playing at Target? Or just someone that even acts like they want to hit the ball (think Mr Baseball, Tom Selleck, "I want to hit a baseball")
  9. Hey, when they get that Upgraded Nutritionist coming with the new Owners, watch out!! Perhaps the new Owners can check out the Vikings facilities.....
  10. IMO, Falvey n Levine were brought in to establish a pitching pipeline. To some degree they have succeeded!! What team could lose 2 of their top 3 starters and stay in contention (with most bats not performing)....... They now are in a position to deal from strength (excellent bullpen) at the trading deadline. Under previous admins, Mathews, Festa, Adams would still be toiling in the minors to eventually become (the finest of) AAAA players. These young guys are pitching now... Some mistakes have been made (Mahle trade). BTW, Doesn't anybody want McCusker up here???? I do, push Larnach, Walner.....
  11. "Intangibles" of bringing someone up from AAA: Remember when Correa was hurt (bout 2 year ago), B Lee was brought up and was tearing it up....amazing how quickly CC healed from injury and was on the field. IMO, Larnach and Walner NEED to be "motivated", No penal actions for them not producing (eg Walner's letting in the winning run against Reds, vice just cutting the ball off). Guarantee: you see McCusker hitting at big league level, and we'll then see a spike in production from Walner/Larnach. The young guys bring that youthful exuberance!!
  12. I am really wondering why they don't give McCusker an actual look. The way Walner has been playing the field, could McC do worse??
  13. A little perspective... I believe we are seeing the beginning of the institutionalized "piggy-back" starter. Our Twins starters are coming up through minors on a pitch count (several current minor league examples) and then expected to complete 6-7-8 innings....just doesn't happen. I say: Tell SWR you have 4 innings, give it your all; you ain't going past 4.....Then take our next "piggy-back" starter (Festa, etc); you got the next 4... I would institute that right now!! It is happening anyway; how many times have the relievers picked it up in 5th or even 4th.... Examples: L Varland, you don't go 5-6 innings, you go one! (great results, just setting expectations). It is a wonder that Ober has lasted this long with his minor-league upbringing.
  14. Nice analysis...but analysis is after the fact. Royce came back from recent injury to just "not hit"....after bout a month, he started stroking singles to right field. Wa La.....put him batting 3rd, immediately!....WHY?? I think they (Rocco) should keep Royce hitting in the 7th, 8th or 9th position till he starts stroking doubles off the right field fence, then re-evaluate (do analysis). Correa did this right field deal to get himself back on track. Also, tell Royce to get comfortable in the batters' box, all this fidgeting is not helping....perhaps lose 5 lbs (sauna??)
  15. Just someone mention to Larnach the words: ".300 hitter...", I know Bean has the analytics, but just mention those words to Larnach, the rest will follow.....
  16. This is a decent argument, Quibble: I would take Lopez over Maeda (younger, stronger; Maeda was a good pitcher), Berrios and Ryan IMO seem eerily similar (I like both), If Pineda could have stayed healthy....., I didn't think much of Hill (latest "Hope" pitcher), I think Paddack much better (if healthy), SWR over Dobnak Real strengths of today's Twins pitching staff: the bullpen is excellent, the young pitching depth is the best I've seen for this franchise (far and away; many examples). I think this pitching "pipeline" is due to Falvey (he did it in Cleveland) The better argument would be the 2025 staff versus the 2019 staff (as 2020 was the COVID year). 2019 versus 2025, I think the starting staffs are pretty much equal (Odorrizi, Gibson....). I again say the 2025 is better due to the same reason: bullpen and young, MLB-ready starting pitching (at AAA level). BTW, I don't try for consensus, TD has hammered me on my occasional TD foray's...I'm an age-advanced guy (still remember when Twins did spring training in Orlando; Tangerine Bowl expanded to Orange Bowl thus the move to Fort Meyers) . I still like RBI as a relevant stat.....
  17. Joking right? Irony?? Berrios n Duran are still around....
  18. Isn't our pitching staff much better than 5 years ago? I think so and Falvey has made that happen. They are bringing up pitchers and letting them pitch versus what happened under the last regime (let them stay in minors forever). I think the problem has been not signing a big bopping right-handed bat; Professional hitter. Get that one guy to be "the" guy. But, Rocco's handling of the pitching staff sometimes perturbs me; let Jax pitch in the 6th inning to get him back on track.....
  19. Can't have the ABS here fast enough; some of those ump calls change the game (the fifth run)..... Why isn't J Morales up and hitting with the Twins, seems like that guy just wants to hit!!
  20. Yes to Paxton, he should take the place of Paddock in the rotation. Paddock to the bullpen when his arm is rested/better (ie see last season).
  21. For us old guys, I believe this inequity has been happening for years if not decades..... Like I said, MLB loves the Yankees
  22. Yankees are given 3.5 outs per inning against the Twins...... MLB loves the Yanks
