  1. They have plenty of good on their mid twenties in AAA. .. Options are irrelevant for them..... So evaluate them. Burrows? Move on.
  2. Cytodyn. I rode it up... Bought more.... And somehow it keeps going down ...
  3. I'm curious, but how does this post add value to the conversation?
  4. No idea, but my preference is a guy they are confident can stick at SS, or the best college starting pitcher (assuming he hasn't been over used by his college manager.....). After that? HS SS or CF, someone that can play D and hit. I don't want anymore bat first corner OF that probably can't field at the MLB level.....
  5. By sheer numbers alone, you'd expect lots of guys not in a list of 50 to be as good as those in the list. There are thousands of minor league players.....
  6. Well, Ryan is at the Olympics.... But I bet we are him when that are over....
  7. While I agree this makes sense, and they have nothing to lose.... The fact Burrows is still on the roster, and not someone from their system, makes me nervous that they just can't move on like they should sometimes.... And this guy might take a forty man place next year, even is he shouldn't.
  8. Fair....but I"m not sure those guys are what you think they are in terms of who they can get for 2 years. I also worry about how hard it is to replace guys every year or two, which we are seeing this year. They didn't replace the kind of years Hill / Odo had when they were here and good...... But, I get your point, we just don't agree. No biggie to me.
  9. I'm not ready to punt 2023. And, you can sign a guy a year earlier than you are serious contenders. It is nearly impossible to fill all the holes in one off season. Signing guys to 2 year deals, imo, is almost a self-fulfilling prophecy of problems. The best players won't do that, so you are left with the leftovers..... I think putting 4 rookies and Maeda out there is a huge mistake, in terms of managing the young guys' careers for mentor/observation/help/whatever words you want to use. I'm only 90% willing to punt next year, frankly. The O is good enough to make the playoffs. The D and pitching are not. Get a real SS, one real SP, and one real RP......and get lucky with the minors....I mean, I'd deal from their depth of hitters that can't field for a guy under team control, but I don't see them doing that.....
  10. I can't see a reason for Burrows to be on the MLB roster, not with several guys in AAA to get a look at.
  11. If you think the team will be garbage in three years, it doesn't matter if they sign guys or not. I'm not really understanding your argument, frankly.....We all agree, they need at least 2 of their minor league pitchers to be good to great. No one is arguing that. the question is....should they sign 1-2 FA starters? I vote yes, on at least one. The young guys need mentors. They need someone to even just watch how they do their job, how they prepare, everything. Also, if 2 work out, and you've already signed a guy, bonus! If none work out, it doesn't matte if you sign a guy or not. There is little downside to signing one good FA pitcher. They have the money, they need 8 pitchers and have 1 or 2 right now....I don't see the downside at all. If the young guys are good by 2023, you have a guy locked in. If the young guys are bad, you can trade him (or not, if he's not working out). If somehow too many young guys are good, you deal someone for some f'n defense (which this team utterly lacks).
  12. Ya, no. Trading the only three good defensive players on the entire roster is a terrible idea. I assume your plan is to 100% punt next year, and probably 2023 also, then. Because they will have no defense at all. None.
  13. They traded for two prospects, that you'll know in a year or two. And, they'll be around A LOT longer than Berrios would be. Every one of these guys was a prospect at one point. Fans show up for winners. IF they win, and no one has heard of the players, people won't care. (note, I'm not saying they will win, but that is what fans care about. The data on that is quite clear, attendance goes way up for winning teams).
  14. I almost bought Atlassian two weeks ago.....sigh.
  15. They probably aren't....but I'm a fan of adding players the year before you are competitive, to increase the likelihood you are. Adding 1-2 legit starting pitchers, which they can afford, makes them better for 2023 also. I'd like a SS and a SP more than 2 SP.....
  16. Because: 1. Berrios said he wanted to test FA. 2. Now they can sign a player of Berrios quality, have him here for more than just 1 year, and have two great prospects. Every team should do stuff like this. Every. Single. Team.
  17. Berrios made it clear he wants to test FA. We have no idea if they'll sign a relatively expensive pitcher or not next year. I'm out of the game of getting mad at the team for not doing something they can't possibly do yet....
  18. No. there is a zero percent chance he's left off the 40 man in the next two years. Zero. Is there a number less than zero? If so, that's the odds Lewis is not on the 40 man in 22 or 23.
  19. I think you aren't looking at that post in context of the discussion....where I pointed out that there is roster and 40 man risk in keeping a player, not just money. At NO POINT did chief imply (the oppo, actually) he was keeping anyone off the roster....
  20. I'd REALLY like to see some of the AAA relievers in MN soon. I'm not sure what advantage there is to playing older guys under 1 year deals at this point.....they really need data for next year.
  21. The risk is that they aren't sure if he's done, or not playing well....that they don't protect someone on the 40 man, and he gets hurt. There are plenty more things that are risks besides just money (more than I list here), which I acknowledged. But there is more than just money with any player.
  22. And roster spots and 40 man spots.....those are limited. But mostly money, sure.
  23. Both..... My guess is that he wasn't good this year, and the Twins didn't help matters. I don't think that means the Twins don't know what they are doing, just that they were wrong in this case. That's going to happen. The key is being right more often than wrong.
  24. They can't call up many guys any more.... Sure would in the old rules though
  25. For what it's worth, on fangraphs, the twins moved to 11th best system, which is a big jump.... It's all on the pitching development at this point. Hopefully also a trade for a pitcher, and a free agent.
