  1. I think most of us will admit that the trade has been a win-win for both teams. I don’t think people have really read what Ely Sussman has said to Ted. Miami has gone from a 69-93 team, to a winning team battling for the postseason—and minus the starting pitcher they gave up. That is the leadership and spark that Arraez has brought to the Marlins, an importance as hard to place a value on as Lopez’s value to the Twins. And he did it while playing second base. Comments like someone on the WCCO pregame broadcast recently made, that Arraez was a player without a position, are really lacking in integrity, in my opinion. We have commenters on this forum now who believe Lewis and Lee are future players without a position, who might be utilized in whatever position is needed. This is going too far. But anyway.. In the long run, the Twins will be better off to draft and develop their own pitching, so that they have to trade away a future Arraez. They will have to do better than one Bailey Ober every several years, no offense to Ober.
  2. I would rather see current players like Correa and Buxton moved to other positions to accommodate Lee, instead of guys like Lewis, Martin and Lee being moved around to accommodate Correa and Buxton. At least we can agree that it’s ok to move players around to different positions. 🙂
  3. The Twins have an opportunity here. Show us that they can win that first series, and the way Texas is playing, Texas who is very beatable may be the opponent in the second round.
  4. Lewis visibly injured himself running to first base in the sixth inning. and Gladden even speculated on air during Lewis’s at bat in the 8th inning that he hoped Lewis would not swing during that at bat and risk aggravating whatever he had hurt in the 6th inning.
  5. Probably. But that then pushes Polanco, Martin and Julien out of the infield, not to mention Gordon and guys like that (I personally don’t feel Julien should be at second anyway). Just trying to think deeper about this, and get a head start on all the offseason articles. 🙂
  6. Where is Lee going to play when he is called up next year?
  7. Cubs won today. Brewers lead the Marlins 12-0 after the second inning.
  8. The Blue Jays are less than the sum of their parts. Their lineup is not as fearsome as the names look. Vladdy Jr has been very ordinary this year and we should be able to pitch to him. As of right now, Berrios and Lopez have pretty much the same top line numbers, if that gives anyone any context. So any criticisms or praise you have of one, kind of apply to the other one. Both have been healthy and good. Of course we know that Lopez is on a strikeout tear so that would give him a slight edge if we are comparing. The Blue Jays seem like the most likely opponent and also seem very beatable.
  9. I mean, I think you know where I stand on this front office. Likewise, I have been opposed to how they have handled Buxton at every step, and their handling of Buxton has pretty much failed at every step. Their whole project was to have Buxton ready for the postseason. They are now on the doorstep of the postseason. Why bail out now? Roll the dice and see what happens…
  10. I would be concerned about Paparesta’s statement about Buxton being ready to play, come hell or high water. That said, my view is to ramp up Buxton an inning or two at a time, yes in center field, for the rest of the regular season. Then send him out there for Game 1, batting sixth. If it turns out he’s the good Buxton, no regrets. And it will shut up the naysayers like me. This was the whole point of letting him take it easy in the first place. Sitting him for the playoffs or leaving him off the roster does nothing but keep feeding the unhealthy speculation. I have no idea if Buxton can play in the field 9 innings three days in a row, but I would like to find out. Maybe he DH’s the middle game.
  11. Smile, Mike. Austin Martin may be our future in Center. 🙂
  12. great minds yada .. Just saw you posted in the other thread and thought I’d go get caught up on that one while watching nfl
  13. Is Buxton rehabbing in St. Paul because we are worried about whether or not the Twins still may not clinch the division and the games here at Target Field this weekend are too important? Because Buxton is going to DH in a playoff series? Because we are finally admitting that the whole attitude of “doesn’t have to face live pitching in spring training”, was a mistake, and live game action actually has value? Sorry if this comes off a little sour. 🙂 At this point, I am half hoping and half expecting them to write Buxton into center field and third in the order for Game 1. And honestly, why not? Good news is Joey Gallo is also rehabbing in that game and back in mid-season form!
  14. I recall Molitor saying on a broadcast this summer that Martin could profile as a centerfielder or second baseman, though maybe not as a full time everyday starter. Or if he was full time at those positions, not quite at league average, maybe. I think Molitor liked him better in center. But now my memory starts to fail me. But something like that.
  15. The article mentions the Astros having mediocre pitching, but I don’t know why it doesn’t mention the injuries. They lost one solid starter to TJ this year and another starter has struggled all year with shoulder issues. Plus it’s unfortunate another guy, McCullers, can never stay healthy. But with Verlander and Valdez to anchor them, they could fill in the other rotation spots or have a bullpen or back to back type of game and still go far. It’s s similar situation to the Twins with Lopez and Gray, and then hoping the other guys step up. Houston has the class factor and the high expectations too. They will not be an easy out.
  16. I also think Texas would be the best matchup overall. A matchup against Houston would be bad news for the Twins, in my opinion. Maeda pitched well against Seattle this year if people remember. Maybe Ryan or Ober matchup better against one of the other teams. Fun to be talking about this 🙂
  17. People talk about playing multiple sports being healthier for your muscles. Keep in mind, Hrbek was also a two-sport athlete. Baseball and duck hunting…
  18. I actually think Lewis took a bad step running out his ball in the 3rd.
  19. I doubt you listen to the radio broadcast. Provus and Gladden have been talking about Lewis being hurt since that double play, amazed he was left in the game.
  20. Radio guys saying Lewis is hurt
  21. Damn. Did not hear that. Sounds like a ball during infield practice got under his foot and rolled it over ☹️
  22. 3 of 10 in difficulty, 10 out of 10 in style points
