  1. Gausman / Berrios / Bassitt has been the sequence the second half. The lineup looks good on paper, but I am very confident the Blue Jays can be pitched to. The Blue Jays also only have one leftie in the pen. I have no idea if Ryu or Kikuchi, their lefty starters, will be moved to the pen for this series. This kind of works against Buxton being on the roster to pinch hit. I kind of think the Twins will load up on their young lefthanded lineup and let er rip.
  2. guessing they get the noon game. Miami at Philly is a nice primetime matchup.
  3. Oh, good to know. There might still be seeding implications, but I don’t think any of the teams involved would really complain if it’s cancelled. So is it an official game then?
  4. And Miami cancelling their travel plans to play a one inning game in New York tomorrow
  5. Second half dead arm, like we see so often and same thing Ryan and Ober went through most likely. Just got tired. Wells spent some time closing for Baltimore during his Rule 5 season, and closed out the AL East clinching win for Baltimore on Thursday night.
  6. Actually.. It’s still complicated!
  7. As wabene said, Framber Valdez may pitch tomorrow for Houston regardless. If Houston hangs on and wins tonight, they could catch Texas for the division, although Texas’s opponent Seattle would have nothing to play for. If Houston loses tonight, they will need Valdez to pitch and win to finish ahead of Seattle for the tiebreaker.
  8. Also tonight, Detroit clinches 2nd place in the AL Central. Alec Baldwin will deliver the set of steak knives in person in a pre-game ceremony sometime in 2024.
  9. I would be including Funderburk as a second lefty in the pen, but I wonder if those two home runs off of Thielbar makes the case too
  10. oh gotcha. yeah that would be a very nice perk.
  11. I beg to differ. If Texas wins the West, Texas would be the Twins second round opponent. I’d take that.
  12. Guy has gotten a bad rap. He started with the Twins on Opening Day until he came down with pneumonia in May. My biggest fear is that the Twins take the advice of posters here and trade him.* *actually that’s probably only my 7,810th biggest fear. Fear of Tarantulas would definitely be higher
  13. But savoring a great piece of writing can maybe help us see things in a different light, and make our day a little bit brighter.
  14. @Wookiee of the Year hey! I’ve only made it to the May chapter so far, but I had to scroll down to the comments first to smash the love button, before continuing with June! Maybe the month of June is the promised land!!
  15. Sad for the guy. He's been out for a month now. Orioles have patched it together without him. As Twins fans, we can be grateful for the extremely good health of our pitching staff this season. This feels like an outlier year as far as pretty much everyone being healthy, and I hope they make the most of it.
  16. They play in a difficult division and this is their window. I think San Diego should stick to the plan and go for it. I don’t know what’s holding them back or what they need to be better. Probably pitching? I always thought Detroit stuck with Ausmus too long in their last competitive window.
  17. The Twins actually have a good chance to make it to the American League Championship Series this fall. And I think Pohlad should clean house, even if they do. Actually should have cleaned house last fall, but it’s a bit too late for that. How do people think the media will react if the Twins make it to the ALCS this year but miss the playoffs next year?
  18. Yikes. Good info and thanks for passing it along, and lukewarm-to-good news about Lewis, but wow that shoots the whole platoon split that the Twins love. Toronto and Seattle would be sending out all righty starters. Houston and Texas have one lefty each. If they use Royce as DH and want Juliens bat in the lineup as bad as it seems they do, then we are looking at second base for Julien…
  19. I remember that too. I remember asking the same question. I was worried about Jason Kubel batting in that spot, and after Rivera got the first strike, you could just feel that Kubel was going to press and chase those high fastballs and strike out. I was pretty upset Gardy did not pinch hit there. Later on, we learn that Gardy actually wanted to pinch hit and had someone in mind, but the player through his body language or whatever was afraid to go up and bat. Ugh. Therefore, Gardy left in Kubel to perish. The Twins teams also had this bizarre approach during those years that the Yankees were somehow unbeatable, for some reason. And you could see it on some of the players faces, for example, the pinch hitter episode above. Seems very weird until you look at their win-loss record. I don’t think the current team is afraid of anyone or afraid of playing anywhere right now, which is another good omen that bodes well.
  20. The story of 2019 was the bottom of the 3rd inning of Game 1, when C J Cron failed to catch a throw from Arraez on a double play relay that would have ended the inning with the Twins leading 2-1. All he had to do was catch that throw. Two runs scored, and the series seemed to hinge on in that play. Why Rocco pulled out Berrios after Berrios breezed through the 4th inning and the Twins desperately needed innings from their starters, is a question only Rocco can answer. We can only hope that the bullpen strategy works in 2023, and hopefully there are many more than two games to complain about it. 🙂
  21. the question I am asking as well. My guess is Philly (Brewers) will get the prime time game. The Cubs and Astros, maybe they schedule overlapping primary time games? Quick glance at last years times were 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 6:30pm
  22. Actually, there were people who sounded giddy about running Dobnak out there for Game Two. But, yes.
