  1. Sux that Dozier's ball couldn't graze the foul pole
  2. I'm watching the game through a mirror -- is Lester still pitching an imperfect game?
  3. I usually check out after the national anthem and color bars
  4. I'm now watching the game through a mirror... The Oakland hitters sure do hit to the opposite field a lot
  5. So... Provus just predicted what pitch Pino would throw to Vogt on 2-2 (four seam fastball)........ Something wrong with this picture......... I return you to your jockularity.
  6. So just flipped the game on the radio.........
  7. If signing Pelfrey and Morales was promoting good will with Scott Boras, the Twins might be pissing it all away by suppressing Alex Meyer's promotion. The good news is that when Meyer finally does get to the Twins, if he pitches really well and likes it here, none of this debate will matter. I would think the Twins have much more to gain than lose by bringing Meyer up in 2014 for a few starts. He's a good guy and has earned it. His arm appears sound. Much more to lose, I would think, if they postpone Meyer's initial promotion until 2015 and then something changes with Meyer over the off season without him having made an appearance.
  8. Actually…….. I could have typed in everything you just said but didn't want to derail the thread. He would definitely be the throwback old-school Gardy type of manager. I think he has certain people skills that would work. He's got a World Series ring or two on his resume. I agree with his original comments to this post. Etc etc. There is still a place for that type of guy in the right situation. But... yeah he is not a money ball guy. In addition to OBP, OSP, ESP, whatever that stat is he whines about shifts constantly when they don't work, and changes the subject when they do work. He hates pitch counts. And so on. Gladden might have worked as a manager somewhere with the right support staff. I think he's happy doing what he's doing though.
  9. I agree with Seth in the other thread - it will probably be Milone. We might see Meyer open the next homestand 8/15 vs KC I'm hoping..
  10. Thanks Chief but I named my kid "Tommy" as in Tommy Milone -- he'll be sort of an adopted stepchild around these parts..
  11. I've thought about this too. I think he's manager material though add him to the list of guys who won't ever get the chance.
  12. Luckily, bird watcher, the ikelihood is very remote that Diamond will pitch in the majors this year. I appreciate that there are defenders of this coaching regime, but good or bad these coaches have overstayed their welcome. Also, I ask you, by what measure Liriano is "stinking up the joint again" this year? It's closer to the truth to say that the Cincinnati Reds have five starting pitchers that would put Gibson and Hughes to shame, than to say that Liriano is having a horrible year.
  13. I didn't mind that Willingham was trying to bunt, but bunting with two strikes!? #trolling
  14. I've never seen major league outfielders play that shallow on a hitter before. It's almost like they thought there was still just one out
  15. Then I stand corrected... unfortunately! (and Antony should know of which he speaks.. what a huge jump going from asst. GM puttering around in the background, to suddenly being the guy in charge)
  16. Did you do the follow-up call?
  17. There was an article/thread back in April on this same topic. Predicting when Meyer will make his debut. Unfortunately the comments are lost. I doubt anyone would have predicted that if Meyer pitched well all year, stayed healthy, and did all the right things, that he would make his debut... not this year at all.
  18. I used to watch Twins broadcasts religiously for the latest breaking news and updates on Bert's bid to enter the Hall of Fame, but I can now rest easy, knowing he has finally made it. /notreally
  19. Give them credit for Gibson. I think what drew criticism was that the Front Office explanations for leaving Gibson in AAA last year did not match what was happening during his starts. Gibson was throwing multiple 9-inning complete games even as the FO warned fans about being cautious with his tender elbow. Meyer is a little different story and so far they've managed his progress really well. (But promote him to the majors already, for Pete's sake.) I'd rather the Twins just say "we're going to take it really slow, so live with it" and stick to that explanation, than to trot out the "consistency" argument after a subpar start, for example. Results matter and the Twins did well by Gibson. Several young starting pitchers recently have been brought back from TJ faster than Gibson, and then had to go back under the knife. And also Anderson's hard and fast 90-100 pitch limit is probably a good thing too, much as I hate it sometimes.
  20. I love goose chases such as this
  21. Glad to hear younger athletes are learning a new, safer way to handle this play in a game situation. It was a correct call, but there's still something really unsatisfying about seeing a runner who was out by 10-15 feet being called safe. Here's what gets me: the replay review took longer than one of the rain delays during the Twins game Sunday.
  22. I'd be really surprised if Perkins doesn't sift out helpful data on opposing batters and then brainstorm with Suzuki and the other guys. Maybe that's what he brings to the mound with him. The article didn't get into that -- and doesn't need to.
