  1. Is there precedent for calling up a guy just to travel but not to play? (Referring to Meyer).
  2. Twins are out-scoring Detroit 20-6 so far in this series
  3. The decision making throughout the season and leaving training camp regarding the 25-man roster has cost us wins. No way to know how many, but some. Add those to your 3 or 4 and you're above .500.
  4. I am thinking of the little things. The largely-unnecessary outfield debacle in mid-May. Missing out on the occasional face-palm-obvious favorable match up that certain posters share in the game threads. The famous resurrection of Pedro Florimon -- in mid June no less, after he had already been banished to AAA and cleansed from the memories of 99% of Twins fans. (Think Flormion starting those games in Boston that the Twins lost each by 1 run.) A few other glaring mistakes. In fairness, we had a really good start in April, we've got the best out of guys like Escobar and Santana, and a few other good things. Ok, maybe not flying above .500, but I just don't think the Twins are getting the best out of their guys. All my opinion of course.
  5. In 1982 the Twins finished 60-102. In 1984 the Twins competed for a division title in a weak AL West. In other words (and note to Pohlad), it only "takes a while" if all the interested parties convince themselves that it's going to take a while. So I continue to disagree with the majority of posters here on how the Twins should be performing this year. In my opinion? The Twins should be at least .500 right now. Maybe just barely, but certainly not 15 games under. In an earlier post here you praised all the talent the Twins currently have. That's what I'm trying to agree with you on.
  6. I side with you on this, birdwatcher, but if we really have this good amount of talent, then how can we be 15 games under .500 and in last flippin' place!!!
  7. I feel your pain. The runner doesn't get there any faster or slower, but you almost never see an umpire rule the guy safe. I think it's probably a combination of reasons why guys do it, but mostly just reflex. Here's Eric Byrnes making the final out of the 2007 NLCS.
  8. Not quite sarcasm actually -- thanks for letting me clear that up. I am coming around to the other side of the argument despite jokin's good write up here, the Middlebrooks praise, all the rest of it. I would think Meyer will be at least as good as Gibson but there's gotta be some information the rest of us are not in on, or obviously he would have gotten his chance by now.
  9. By many accounts, including my own, the Twins have drawn fairly well at times this month. It might be a residual "All Star Game" bump, or it may be that many of us underestimate the Twins drawing power, that going to Target Field on a summer night and cheering the team is still a fun thing to do.
  10. I think I know where you are going with this, but I don't think cutting any of these guys here would be a hard nosed decision, per se. For some of us, the one big organizational decision we are waiting on is the manager and coaches. If the Twins are privately courting Redmond or Mientkiewicz or some other symbol of the good ol' days, then I'd rather just keep Gardy in the role. But I'd prefer to see a completely new staff altogether. I could make an exception for Molly.
  11. I think this is basically correct. Buxton especially. The Twins not necessarily not the unluckiest, and that is not the claim you are making. I think the top 3 minor league prospects all suffered some sort of horrid injury of late. So other teams are set back too. But if someone actually did some groundwork I'd bet we'd find the Twins were in the unluckiest 10 or 20 percent though.
  12. Because he certainly would have made his debut long since now, if he were still in the Washington system, control or not.
  13. Maybe we should conclude that Meyer, despite his stuff, just isn't that hot a prospect if the team isn't willing to give him a shot up here ahead of the Pinos and Darnells. In other words, we Twins fans built him up to something he was not, and believed our own hype.
  14. CORRECTION: Both Nolasco and Gardy said they thought Nolasco pitched pretty well. So there's that.
  15. Yeah and Nolasco got absolutely crushed tonight from what I saw. Bad enough as it is, the 5-0 final score probably doesn't reflect it. He's not even pitching to the level he was at before he went on DL.
  16. We do seem to face Cy Young quite a bit, though
  17. and Mike Aviles puts the "Bring-in-Deduno-to-start-an-inning" theory to the test...
  18. Has Markakis done anything to alienate himself from Orioles fans? I think the Twins should stay in house and even try a Plouffe or someone else outside the box. For better or worse, Schafer has made a couple of pretty good catches out in left tonight.
  19. and DEFENDING him
  20. Agree - most guys don't care to bunt anymore. It's a nice tool for speedy players to have, for sure. As far as sac bunting, I think there's debate on whether it's even efficient to have pitchers bunt though I don't see the pitcher sac bunt going away anytime soon.
  21. Wetmore is right on the money. This was baseball managin' right out of the 1980s. Thanks for posting this.
  22. Definitely too early to panic. The Royals lineup is underrated and makes good contact, as you said. On other forums I read that the point of the Twins leaving Meyer and May in the minors so long was that they would be good and seasoned when they finally were called up - who knows. I'd really like to see Suzuki catch his next start.
  23. Someone alert Bark's Lounge... I think we have a new rally mascot:
