  1. now you are. Also, Vargas.
  2. laughed out loud - i recognize that formulation
  3. Prospects + Playing Time = ???
  4. and I was just finishing a 3,200 word post on taxation policies and effects following the '29 market crash - yeah, thanks a lot. Maybe there's a ballgame on somewhere so I can blow off some steam...
  5. May surrenders home run, but I still take back everything bad I ever said about him
  6. Not sure if speaking with a real life United States Senator from Vermont...
  7. Look at that lineup - did Gardy lose a bar bet or something?
  8. I don't completely buy the argument that Milone has gotten lucky for over two seasons, and that we shouldn't be too surprised at how he's pitched since he got here. That's sort of what I hear people saying; I don't think I'm mischaracterizing too much? I won't compare him to Hughes again but I don't see why he should suddenly go in the tank when he pulls on the Twins uniform either. Twins need to figure out what's wrong with their pitching operation and fix it asap - goes beyond Milone. Careful throwing that name around.
  9. He made some baserunning blunders last night but after the game knew his mistakes and said all the right things.
  10. True. And intuitively I prefer the Twins more cautious approach to the National's approach, but look at the results they are getting compared to the Twins. Washington seems to not have much concern about a pitcher undergoing TJ surgery but shoulder might be a different concern in their system. Don't know. Hypothetically, also, if a guy like Trevor May had been in the Washington system, I think he would have gotten a look before now and doubt very much his ERA after four starts would be above 10.00. So I feel there's something more than injury rehab the Twins need to be concerned about.
  11. Milone was squeezed out of the Oakland rotation by trades, not poor performance. He wasn't pitching too bad this year. And then........ he comes here. I grant that Milone had a favorable Home/Away split at the Coliseum, but even so he's performed like a decent mid rotation starter for two and a half seasons. That's closer to Phil Hughes than a one hit wonder like Scott Diamond. IMO
  12. Shane - I couldn't agree more here. Instead of babying them along and wasting so many innings in the minors, I'd much rather see that wear and tear occur for the big club. Within reason of course... I agree. Develop guys quicker while they're young and fresh. Seems like many teams are doing that. Even with his shoulder, Meyer probably would have been in the big leagues by now, if he was still in the Washington organization. Barring serious injury, no reason Berrios shouldn't be in the big leagues by age 22.
  13. Thanks Kirby-Wave. This was just a view from 35,000 feet about how this year compares with the past couple years. Hughsie is top 5 or 10 in FIP and is a real bright spot. On the other hand, I fear Nolasco might be our new Pelfrey. Mays is an enigma and hopefully not headed the way of Liam Hendricks and others.
  14. I get it, but Arcia has that Pierzynski/Hunter/Mientkiewicz competitive quality that this team hasn't seen since, well, Pierzynski Hunter or Mientkiewicz. (With the exception that Arcia doesn't seem to have any of the negative personal aspects that those three did to varying degrees.) I personally hope the Twins stick with Arcia. I can live with his erratic play in the field.
  15. We had several guys discussed as legitimate all stars this year. A couple other guys like Plouffe who had solid seasons. Young guys like Santana who have surprised. Tell me the players are the reason we are a 90 loss team.
  16. I hoped Colabello might get one last look. This decision must be his "pat on the shoulder."
  17. You are probably on to something. This was just a quick glance. Is there something that happens between AAA and MLB in this organization? How can May be melting down so badly. Also, this is the worst four game stretch of Milone's career. But I do think the system is stocked with better talent than in the past. Hughes seems to take a liking here, if not Nolasco. One out of two FA signings working out so far; that's not bad.
  18. Here are the ERA's of starters entering September. Past three seasons. Name, followed by # of starts made, followed by ERA to entering September * for entertainment purposes only 2012 Scott Diamond (21), 3.21 Sam Deduno (10), 3.72 Cole DeVries (13), 4.68 PJ Walters (7), 5.40 Liam Hendricks (10), 6.02 2013 Andrew Albers (5), 2.92 Kevin Correia (26), 4.32 Mike Pelfrey (25), 4.86 Liam Hendricks (5), 5.13 Scott Diamond (20), 5.52 Pedro Hernandez (9), 5.54 2014 Phil Hughes (27), 3.70 Kyle Gibson (26), 4.23 Ricky Nolasco (21), 5.62 Tommy Milone (4), 7.94 Trevor May (4), 10.42 Difference in 2014 being that Gibson and Hughes should be guys to build around, even if it looks like May won't cut it, or Meyer is not ready right away, Milone should be fine...maybe Berrios gets a shot next year?
  19. Ah.. Got it. Was trying to figure out what "Call up ... never mind" meant, since there was no note that the original Strib story had been edited (shoddy journalism by the way). Much in agreement with stringer on Plouffe. Plouffe has become maybe the second best 3B in the division. I'm also not sure why Souhan doesn't mention Schafer as a center field replacement in his Santana to SS suggestion or as competition in CF with Hicks.
  20. Meyer can't get lefties out?
  21. Eye of the beholder, yes. We are getting to that time of year where it's easy (and sometimes justified imo) to make sport of what Gardenhire says in postgames. Some things are juicier than others. I didn't think too much of Mauer getting a night off, or the ensuing comments about it.
  22. Based on that photo, if Shatner was a baseball manager, do you think he'd be on board with sabermetrics?
  23. you get to be Gates, but I kind of want JB to be Marina
