  1. What also bothers me a little, is it's LENIII who the Twins used to break the news. My opinion is that there are harder working reporters who provide better coverage of the team.
  2. In recent years, "loyalty" has been a Twins front office justification for keeping certain people in the same positions despite performance issues. I think Kwak is putting a cynical spin on Lucas's termination. Cynicism I share. Anyway, hope that helps.
  3. "Hi there! I'm the guy who didn't vote Jeter to the Hall of Fame!" Nope, wouldn't want to be that guy.
  4. Perhaps better compared to a year ago, but what about compared to this past June? When fans were discussing the possibility of an 85 win season and Terry Ryan signed Morales with the proclamation "Why not us?"
  5. Reading the linked article, I also kept thinking back to the Center Field / outfield speed issue. Hicks, like Worley, seems like a guy who's not going to be successful in the system here. Yet the Twins were betting on Hicks again this year, even after last year's shaky experiment. (That bet could still pay off with Mays and Meyer let's hope.) When Hicks struggled, they found Sam Fuld on waivers. When Fuld had the concussion, they tried Eduardo Escobar as center fielder. Not sure who would have been uglier, Escobar or Bartlett… in any case, in isolation I can defend Gardy's choice to keep Santana in center even among calls to work Santana at short. But the article indirectly hints at more systemic problems the Twins have than lack of CF depth, though that is important. Anyway, my two cents.
  6. Interesting how most of Hughes's walks came so early in the game. Very well presented story.
  7. Well this is thoroughly depressing.. if there are teams that far ahead of us, it makes me wonder if we are a much longer ways from competing than I previously believed. It's one thing to have barstool arguments about how guys like Worley and Liriano have improved after leaving the Twins, it's another thing to see it quantified and backed up by a good body of data. If the Twins aren't open to changing their ways and getting some new decision makers in, it's going to be a long, long wait.
  8. I've done some puppet shows -- in front of no more than a couple dozen though. California county fair circuit. Early 80s. Maybe we've met??
  9. As long as we don't talk about the ending to Seinfeld -- that still bugs me more than anything
  10. There should be a checkbox on the Twins Daily subscription form -- or are you only on the $59.95 basic level annual membership?
  11. Before the season ends, RB, will you say one more nice thing about the rubber band for us? Thanks, HBD.
  12. Ron Washington's resignation came with much less notice, and the Rangers have a 12-6 record since. If Molitor is Gardy's so called heir-apparent, then there will be no disruption at all, as Molly has been in the Twins dugout next to him all year. Please don't give Twins management any more ideas, ashburyjohn.
  13. Here was the top entry in the Deadspin comments section:
  14. I like the foundation idea. Also if a game this weekend goes into the 11th or 12th inning, why not. I don't think the Twins will be called cheap if he finished 1/3 inning short, as I remember Hughes voluntarily removing himself from several games this summer when he could have pitched further.
  15. Ok, then start with this: 66 - 96 = x
  16. As someone who believes a manager change and coaching changes could bring immediate improvement, I would be eager to join a ticket buying group again, starting next year.
  17. Exactly. Even Joe Torre and the Yankees parted ways. When did coaching change become controversial? It's telling to me that Gardy doesn't seem to recognize the very thing you said here, that he's had a good run and it's time for him and both sides to move on.
  18. There's so much truth to this. But it's this kind of article that makes me uneasy -- it's a straight-from-the-PR-department argument for holding on to the status quo of coaches and game philosophy.
  19. Reading articles like Mackey's here, it's truly difficult to tell if Mackey is using fresh Ryan quotes or is pulling quotes from prior seasons, because Ryan has almost literally been saying the same thing for going on 2-3 years now. One word Ryan did use was the "e" word -- Ryan said he was making an emotional decision concerning the starting pitching. I'm trying to read the tea leaves, so maybe that means he will not be offering Anderson another contract.
  20. The snark thread is that way --->
  21. So if Gibson's ERA is under 1.00 in games he wins, will Gardy send him out for the 10th tonight to maintain the sub-1.00 ERA?
  22. Almost as tough as when Minneapolis and St. Paul people start mixing it up..
  23. Tough love being shown to the Gary, Ind. folks tonight...
