  1. I'm torn because i want to see the young guys play, and they draw little salary. But the cheapskate argument resonates with me too.
  2. Great summary. Some good questions were posed. I image Terry wanted to answer "I just fired Gardenhire so please leave me alone" to every one of them. Reading between the lines it looks like they are preparing to go with Santana as CF. That's not a majority-held desire in TD-territory but I am fine with it. Another thing that strikes me is how much they are backing off Sano. Maybe Sano could DH and move Vargas to 1B. I know Sano is young and had surgery but what am I missing. The 2013 season he is in AA hitting prodigious home runs, and we're not supposed to expect him full time in MLB until 2016. I'm not being critical it just doesn't add up.
  3. Winnah! (h/t chief)
  4. Yeah the announcers seem despondent that Baltimore didn't score in ninth
  5. Bases loaded, no one out, Hosmer grounds to first, and first baseman standing right on top of first base makes an outstanding heads up play to NOT touch first base and throw it home for force instead. Except the throw is ridiculously horrible but Hundley somehow shorthops it and keeps his foot on plate for force out.
  6. Anybody watching this Top of the 9th? My god..
  7. Yeah these bullpens are at another level. You hear Twins announcers always say "get to the other teams bullpen"... um, you sure about that?
  8. Nah man. Royals can not catch a break. The 75 foot base hit to tie the game. Then ump called Dyson out stealing -Dyson did not over slide, Schoop held his tag and pushed Dyson's leg off the base by literally an inch and he's called out. End of 7 and tied so hope KC can just take a breath and finish the deal.
  9. I think Twins Daily should go back to 20 comments per page.. or better yet, 10 or 5.. because, mouse clicks
  10. Mackey's story is fine. He's doing the exact thing the writers often do at Twins Daily-typing up a short article to get a discussion going. Not every story here is a manuscript length dissertation with sources (thank god for that ). For example, he points out "Additionally, Adams, Carpenter, Rosenthal, Garcia and Craig were all drafted in the 8th round or later - rounds where teams are essentially throwing darts, blindfolded. The Cardinals are finding gems in these rounds." That's more than blind luck. That's not even half luck. The point is, the Twins are throwing darts blindfolded, and the Cardinals are not. The Cardinals apparently know certain traits to look for. These might not even be baseball traits. Or maybe the Cards see something once these guys get to their assignments and they get immediate priority, regardless of where they were drafted. Whatever the Twins have been doing hasn't been working. I think that's Mackey's message/reminder of the day.
  11. I think Hicks is back in play as a viable contributor. Hicks sure hasn't helped himself but he was in Gardy's doghouse from Day 1. (Refresher article here and gif here.) That didn't help. Now for 2015, Hicks has a great opportunity in front of him. Is he on his way to a winter league has anybody heard? That might tell us a lot.
  12. You are probably right but I'm with Brock. The networks ruled for the first 30-40 years, cable took over for 30-40 years, and now it's the internet based content providers. It's a natural progression. Younger folks are cutting the cord. Cable needs sports - you are absolutely right. Who knows how long advertisers will stick around. Despite its profit, all cable has going for it is an obsolete political structure. Comcast won't even let go of its customers. Expect a bumpy ride.
  13. I've got no pressing questions at the moment but would like to know how he intends to relieve the congestion at CI/DH given Mauer, Sano, Vargas, Plouffe, and anyone else.
  14. Instead of doing the out of control facial hair schtick, the Royals schtick seems to be overt, on-field celebrations after just about any good play, offense or defense. Oddly, it's not that annoying and it's actually kind of fun. I hope they go all the way!
  15. Likewise, Doc, I've felt Douggie has been the throw in candidate -----though I might be pleasantly surprised if he were the surprise hire if Glynn and Molly for whatever reason weren't the pick. I guess that makes me an inside-candidate guy Though I don't really consider Glynn an inside company guy. He's been with a half dozen organizations in all sorts of roles. I think that diversity of experience is a plus. Doug is just too lacking in experience and temperament in my opinion to take over quite yet. That KSTP interview sounds like he's headed to AA which sounds about right.
  16. What Twins news has Nightengale broken? I don't keep track of that stuff but would like to know.
  17. The point of the original post I think is to shake us out of the "malaise" of low expectations (h/t Jimmy Carter). Old ways of thinking might be in the past. If we expect 3-6 win improvement, that means it takes us three seasons to get back to .500,.. it's ok to think bigger than that. Like stringer said in the OP, it's not unheard of for a team to suddenly get it together. The big obstacle is that other teams in the ALC could do the same thing, and it looks like KC already has. It's maybe Detroit who is on the way back down.
  18. Plouffe is a success story. Bruno seems to have improved him at the plate, Molitor in the field, and Gardy.. by just having faith in him after everyone else was ready to give up. He's not an all star, but he's a keeper.
  19. Arcia is also the guy with Plouffe who hauls the Gatorade cooler out into the field after walk-offs
  20. Link to interview http://twinsdaily.com/topic/15519-nightengale-twins-interviewing-doug-mientkiewicz-today/?p=285400 Warning: after all the buildup, it's probably not going to be as meaty as you'd expect.
  21. All in favor! and I am intrigued by the possibility that Glynn has connections in Venezuela. There's bound to be some coaching talent there who would be interested in coaching in MLB.
  22. Ryan and Smith seemed to have put together a nice crop of young talent.. putting in place a new coaching staff seemed like a minimum requirement. Pohlads and Ryan now must start thinking about a successor GM, in my opinion. Pohlads don't seem to be the types to hire someone cold off the street (so to speak) so I assume would want that person already in the organization for when the time comes.
  23. Ouch, spycake. I'm with Bark on this. Molitor's years in the minors have given him more face time with guys like Sano than Gardy ever had. This type of relationship could pay off in ways we can't predict. And I don't see Molitor as so closed minded that he would demand exclusive control over who his coaches would be, should he be offered or want the job. The year in Seattle doesn't bother me one way or another. Several potential candidates I would be happy with including Molly. Like gunnarthor said somewhere else, whoever takes over is sitting on a potential mother lode of talent. I don't see how Molitor would be a horrible thing, even if he's not someone's first preference.
