  1. Nobody said that exactly, but I see a pattern forming of buying old stars on the cheap in hopes they return to peak levels. Morales I feel would vulture at bats from Santana, Parmelee, and others. I'm ready to clean house.
  2. So Morales's stats will only improve as he gets older (and wider in the waistline). Got it.
  3. Morales (and Willingham) needs to be traded or released ASAP in order to make regular playing time for Santana and Parmelee and others. just an opinion.
  4. Good call. Suzuki has been solid. I'm still an A.J. fan too. Yeah he has an edge. He can be rude. He doesn't ride the DL. He plays to win. He was a great fit on Ozzie's team. He has a World Series ring. No one is going to ever make excuses for him, like they do here. If you're a winner, he'll have your back. It would be nice to have players like A.J. again. (and Torii, Radke, etc.)
  5. 2013: Gardenhire/Ryan, 66-96 2012: Gardenhire/Ryan, 66-96 2011: Gardenhire/Smith, 63-99 You got me.
  6. I agree with you Dave, but what other announcing team is announcing games of a team coming off three 95-loss seasons and still has the exact same manager/GM combo?
  7. I mean, what was A. J. doing on his smartphone after a game? Probably betting on other baseball games I bet..
  8. Clearly A. J. is not good in the clubhouse. Everyone knows Suzuki, Pinto and Fryer would have spent the rest of the night with their arm around this fragile pitcher, comforting him.
  9. One reason I feel this injury information came out at this particular moment, is because Gardy's post game conference where he told the media Nolasco is a sh!tty pitcher right now. And it was this mini melt-down that probably prompted this "clearing of the air" summit in Gardy's office (or wherever it was) with Anderson and Antony where Nolasco was finally put on the defense. That's one possibility, anyway. Not an efficient way to tease out information about an injury.
  10. Fangraphs has calculated what the Twins record would be without Nolasco's 5-7 win-loss record: 34-41. Still last place in the Central. Just some perspective on this.
  11. Ryan and Gardenhire ought to have the decency to independently submit their resignations/retirement. As it exists now, there's this daisy chain of "for as long as I'm owner, Ryan will be my GM... for as long as I'm GM, Gardy will be my manager... for as long as I'm manager..." It's run its course. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd want to keep Ryan as GM but would hire some outside blood as a potential successor GM one day.
  12. Little too early for Worley to be calling this a happy ending, but yeah he's got to be feeling better about himself at the moment.
  13. I read it as sarcasm, but who knows, maybe there's truth in it? Posters on other Nolasco threads have suggested Nolasco might depend less on his low 90s fastball and work on really varying his pitch selection. And that Suzuki calls more fastballs than other catchers, which doesn't help. Conversely, on the radio this week Gardenhire said Nolasco had to set up his breaking ball by working on command of his fastball, and keeping his shoulder closed (maybe because that's how pitchers from Japan pitch) -- in other words, more fastballs. In other words, Gardy had no idea either. I have no idea what Nolasco's problem is, or what his pitch selection was Sunday, or if he busted out his Hideo Nomo delivery. I'm also hoping it's just an off year.
  14. Part of me says just let him pitch through it. We're not going anywhere this year. Neither is Nolasco. Also, doghouse. He's lucky he got in while there's still room.
  15. I can't believe the A.L. team isn't carrying 13 pitchers.
  16. thanks JB - so much I'd like to say in response to these tweets.
  17. 7 IP, 1 run allowed, a 4-2 victory for Oakland. How good does Samardzija feel about now?
  18. The article also says you can catch some good scuttlebutt just hanging around a team and talking to people, stuff that might be useful. Whether the Twins are taking full advantage of their advance scouting is an open question though.
  19. Gardenhire and Ryan ought to have the decency to offer their resignations. I wouldn't accept Ryan's but would also hire on some acceptable assistant GMs who might be considered as a successor.
  20. Where did this come from? Deduno could be a great mop up guy, as many people have been saying all along. He kept us in the game Friday.
  21. True. I agree the Hicks experiment has failed for now. He was a guy who wasn't ready. Willingham and Suzuki have produced, others haven't. I just fear a continuation of the cycle of mediocre vets and a Twins team that's less than the sum of its parts.
  22. What do you mean by "rebuild"? It's possible we are all talking past one another if we do not agree on terms. The 2001 team that surprised everybody and won 85 games averaged about 25.5 years of age. Matt Lawton was the only age 30+ starter in the lineup. And these were the same young guys who went to the ALCS the following year. Maybe this would be a "rebuild" to the extreme and maybe it wouldn't pay off for a few years, but this is the ideal I think of, when I think of rebuild. No time for the Doumits, Willinghammers, Fulds, Kubels, etc.
  23. It's always Willingham hitting those game tying homers.
