  1. and what almost always fails to get mentioned in these articles is that a bullpen of seven relievers is the norm across the league, not the exception. Here's the list of other AL teams carrying 13 pitchers, as of today: - Cleveland. Not saying 13 pitchers is wrong but it's amazing how much anguish Gardenhire goes through with bullpens and catchers!
  2. I'd bet his odds are greater than 50-50 that he implodes at some point, but for now he's doing ok. It was actually about this time last year he had that awful game against the Yankees, and we have the Yankees coming to town in a couple weeks, so brace yourself for what's to come.
  3. Larkin and Bush were good, but were primarily OF/DH types, similar to Bill Parmelee's role today.
  4. The inevitable being that four years from now Hicks bats .270/.340/.400 in center field for another team and makes the playoffs
  5. I'm trying to come up with a good explanation for Hicksie but best to let him tell us. FWIW here is the box from the game and a bio of the opposing pitcher, who certainly seems to have big league stuff. Rules out the knuckleballer theory. http://phuturephillies.com/profiles/starters/rhp-garner-percival/ http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2014_06_21_reaaax_nbraax_1&t=g_box&sid=t538
  6. No big deal.. Just file it under: cause, not helping one's own to be cross indexed with - clue, not having a - Information Age, no secrets in - supporters, losing last remaining
  7. Who wants to go in on playoff tickets!!!
  8. Throwing to first on a 2-0 count.. Ugh this guy has no confidence!
  9. This Webb guy doesn't have a clue where the plate is..
  10. Loved his performance. Pino should get a couple more starts. If he continues to pitch well, and May is called up, I foresee a move back to 14 pitchers.
  11. Most of all, it's nice to see Mauer smiling.. the camera panned to him standing out at second and just a moment ago in the field, big smile both times!
  12. Romero not on 40 man. My mistake. He still might be worth a try right now even if he's just filler.
  13. I remember how much you like Fryer... Those are your "F&F boys" (h/t Twins49)
  14. What are your thoughts on Deibinson Romero? With Plouffe doing well and Sano in waiting, it would seem like Romero is the odd man out. Twins need a jolt of offense and my understanding is that is what Romero offers. Also, he's 27 on and the 40-man. When would be a good time to call up Romero, if not now?
  15. The only way I'd vote in these polls is if "more Gardenhire" was an option. :) .
  16. Are umpires a variable?
  17. Would this be a good time to give this guy a short stint at 3B? Might be worth a shot if he gives the offense a jolt. Like others have said, if not now, then when.
  18. Guys on radio said flu bug, manager says it was an undisclosed back injury. Got it. Tough loss but not the end of the world.
  19. F and F boys LOL and how'd they do in their first ABs? ... Struck out looking, struck out looking..
  20. I'm on board with this lineup too. Some guys need a break. It's like the old getaway day lineup you used to see from Kelly. Sometimes it works.
  21. Willingham takes a lot of heat for his D, but more often than not I see him making good plays.
  22. Wow you see some quirky plays at Fenway.
  23. Down 2-1, Hughes comes out to pitch the bottom 8th. Love the move. Give him a shot for a win.
