  1. Ha ha, Escobar, draws the full count bases loaded walk... and at first base, fellow Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera gives Escobar a pat on the back!
  2. I think you are right. Maybe a few weeks. Maybe just any other night.
  3. No harm no foul, so I will say, Avila's double is why Fuld needs to be our center fielder..
  4. Kendrys Morales, softball swing, base hit.
  5. Gibson usually a sure handed fielder. not sure how long we'll last giving these guys 4 outs per inning.
  6. Yes. One guy out of position is enough. but, that was a routine ground ball...
  7. Guerrier led the league in appearances in 2008. It's possible we see more of Guerrier and Burton in big spots this year. Gardy's got something of a gambler's chase in him, running Escobar out to center the night after his bad mistake, letting Kubel bat sixth right to the end. If Gardy was a football coach, and his team scored a touchdown on the final play, I have no doubt he'd go for 2 for the win instead of kicking the extra point for a tie.
  8. This is the essence of it for me -- all this drama could have been kept in house and most of us would have saw exactly what the Twins saw anyway, that he's not ready for the MLB level yet. All the potshots and bad press just feels like piling on and totally unnecessary. Especially at this point now that he's going to be out of the picture.
  9. The only thing he's lacking is a sexy batting average. He'll be selected as a reserve I bet. If it comes down to a horse trade I think the Twins will give up Perkins this year to get Dozier in.
  10. I actually think Gardy has done a good job with the rotation, using the starters for the right amount of innings, getting them out in time (Correia's last one), and generally leaving Suzuki to catch Hughes. We're down to a 12 man staff, so smaller bullpen, and Gardy has adjusted. I will confess I am a bit prejudiced against Guerrier, mainly because he's part of the band, and I think that was really questionable to have a ton of these guys from the glory days hanging around camp. I think we went with Kubel too long. We needed him until May 26 when Hammer and Arcia came off DL, but the writing was on the wall by then. Kubel got four more starts after that and we lost two of those games by a run. Yet Kubel really was an asset early on, so it's hard to judge his net contribution. Twins are in a good spot today with lots of baseball left to play and managin' left to do.
  11. We also turned to Escobar in the outfield, with a result of -1 game. Hang that one on the manager, not the player. This while Parmelee was available in AAA.
  12. LENIII wrote: "They finally criticized him in the press for not preparing well. And he hasn't responded." Examples of Hicks "not responding" since then: - a walk off base hit immediately after the sit down with Gardy - robbed a home run - gave up switch hitting to be more effective - drew a huge 2 out BB that set up Dozier's big 9th inning hit against Yankees - and generally has improved his numbers (if only marginally) in limited play.
  13. If the entire Twins organization had never said a single bad word about Hicks, there still would have been a consensus that Hicks was struggling and wasn't ready for the big leagues.
  14. This should get interesting. Not a lot of days off before the all star break. Perhaps the Twins will trade for a veteran catcher to back up Suzuki. Not even joking.
  15. I like Dozier right where he is. His base running is improving so you want him near the top, but he has some pop so that a first inning HR might put you up 2-0 instead of 1-0, which is huge, like last night.
  16. Partly true, but only out of practicality. It remains a half in, half out operation to my mind. If Gardy could run out a veteran lineup of Suzuki, Kubel, Doumit, Carroll, Willingham, etc, he probably would. If the Twins make this a race with all these old guys, I'll be cheering too, so save me a seat on the bandwagon
  17. BREAKING: Correia signs extension.
  18. "We're already paying him, we might as well leave him in."
