  1. Ok I'll bite. There are apparently very few of us who responded with "meh" to this signing. But we still like the Twins.. I like the discussion about Pinto that this signing has generated. I agree that maybe he's on his way back to AAA for a while, and that's probably for the best, but I'm not sure how I feel about that, given the Pinto discussion earlier this spring. I get a sense that the majority of TD posters are just happy because this is an additional signal that the Twins are committed to winning in the present, and enjoying a pennant chase for a while, rather than this being the final move that puts us over the hump. Do I have that right? Or can this signing genuinely move us from 85 to 88 wins? Or given how the standings look as of June 8, is 85 wins enough to make the playoffs? Is there anything else the FO should do to get us there? Anything else the manager can do? The players? Just some more ideas to bring to the table.
  2. Best wishes. It's a privilege to be in this community with you.
  3. Parmelee may not have done himself any favors, but nor have the Twins done Parmelee any favors. Parms was not even called up during the outfield pinch in early May. Leaving spring training, the Twins corner outfield depth appears to have been: 1. Arcia 2. Willingham 3. Kubel 4. Colabello 5. Jason Bartlett 6. Mastroianni 7. Chriss Herrmann, 8. Eduardo Escobar, 9. Chris Parmelee. Is that about what everyone else had in mind? Since May 26, when Willingham and Arcia returned full time, Parmelee has had 8 plate appearances (before today). Kubel has had 16, twice as many, and Kubel was already well into his slump prior to that. Also since May 26 Kubel has had twice as many starts as Parmelee, 4 to 2, with Kubel facing guys like Nick Martinez, Nick Tepesch, and Chase Whitley. Unfortunately, Parmelee drew Tanaka in one of his. Such is life in the doghouse. Parmelee is only 26, and I've already documented similarities in the side by side development of Parmelee and Torii Hunter, but I have a feeling it's immaterial at this point. I think as long as we win, no one will care much who gets the playing time. With the Morales signing its a good time for the Twins to hit reset. But I still like Parmelee as a 1B/OF utility guy the rest of the year, and going forward.
  4. Guerrier feels shaky to me. I'm all for using him for as long as he's useful, though. Hopefully in early innings or mop up.
  5. Ah yes, a magical phrase we've heard before
  6. Another consideration of this signing is that Boras represents Meyer.
  7. I thought the Twins were just starting to find a rhythm (Correia notwithstanding) so I was surprised by this. Essentially this signing just means Morales is the full time DH, so an improvement without too much disruption. The Twins have now announced they are buyers, and not in a rebuild, which solves their identity crisis too. Willingham: It's not impossible to move him, it's impractical to move him. If he's struggling, nobody will want him, and if he's producing, the Twins will want to keep him. If the pennant race doesn't pan out, I guess the Twins could ask for a PTBNL in a salary dump. It's hard to see the Twins pulling this off while depending on a green rookie infielder to play CF. So I think playing Fuld full time is the best option at this point. And now you are looking at an old, old lineup, and a wasted year of development if they fall on their face--- but no need to dwell on that. They can compete this year; it's not out of the question.
  8. Ouch. i don't think that's how it will go down.
  9. My thought exactly. You can't sign Morales for 2014 and in the same breath claim that Santana needs to play center to gain experience, or that if Willingham stays hot you can move him and be sellers at the deadline, or that... and so on. I'm not opposed to this signing I just don't know if it makes as much sense now, as it did before.
  10. I do think the signing provides cover for releasing Kubel. Now they can tell him they have no room, instead of making it about his ability.
  11. It is sexier.. I like that you moved Mauer down the order; not his team anymore I might even put Arcia third and Morales fifth. i am just real uneasy with Santana as a starting center fielder on a contending team. He's still so green. I am warming to him, but...
  12. Why indeed? This signing stopped making sense when Willingham and Arcia came back.
  13. Arcia pinch hit last night. (For the wrong guy imo, but he did pinch hit and almost put one out.)
  14. You can't always get what you want
  15. Oh my, Willi a chance to win it...
  16. You're gonna carry that weight a long time
  17. If you've never played 11th dimensional chess, you have no right to question it
  18. Unless Nunez or Escobar or Parmelee go to center, but I bet it will be Santana-- anyone at the game who can comment during the commercial break?
  19. Santana will go into center from the DH slot and the pitcher will replace Arcia's spot (Arcia PH for Hicks)
  20. Nice inning for Guerrier? Gardy living on the edge (now there's a 80s lyric)
