  1. Dealing Correa gives them some room financially, but the rest only save about $15M the rest of the season. Most of that is Vazquez and they'll have to eat his contract if they want to trade him.
  2. I guess, if he wants this to be his last job in baseball. 42 seems to be a bit young for that.
  3. The most disappointing part of this announcement is the statement it makes that they don't want to do better than the team they have on the field right now.
  4. This is very much a country club move. There is no other team that wants Rocco Baldelli as their manager. They could easily let the contract expire and negotiate a return with a pay cut if they really wanted to bring him back.
  5. Austin Martin is more useful than Dashawn Keirsey.
  6. They need to play Ty France to showcase him for a potential trade.
  7. Sabato and Holland are still down in the pecking order. This is who I see getting the playing time if they move players: Bader -> Martin Castro -> Keaschall France -> Gasper Coulombe-> Funderburk Vazquez -> Camargo Paddack -> Matthews That doesn't even figure in a possible return of Julien or Miranda. There's also the players they receive from the trades to consider. I doubt they will prioritize getting A-ball prospects in return.
  8. So, if a starting pitcher gives up a run in the first inning, he's a failure? How about if Coulombe gives up one run but Festa would have given up more than one run in the same situation. Does that mean Coulombe is a failure for performing better than Festa? If a reliever's worst case expectation is he occasionally gives up a single run in an inning, then he's a damned good reliever, not a failure.
  9. Teams that are below .500 at the deadline (and the Twins are 3 games under at the moment) typically sell veterans for prospects. That should be expected. I don't expect them to blow up the whole roster. The "fire everyone, trade all the players" crowd is just angry yargle-bargle. If they said "I'm angry and it's affecting my ability to think" it would be more accurate.
  10. The Yankees are looking for a 3B...
  11. I agree, though it wouldn't matter for 2025 since they would be waving the white flag. Brooks Lee could help them limp through the rest of the season. If they want to compete next season, they would need to acquire a SS. Culpepper is the next potential SS and I don't expect to see him as a regular until 2027. I also think Carlos Correa will be a lesser defender in 2027 compared to his abilities now.
  12. What contender is looking to add Carlos Correa for the stretch run? Maybe the Yankees would want him at 3B so they could move Chisholm to 2B. That's about the only fit I can find.
  13. I'm going to reject the premise that a relief pitcher "fails" any time they give up a single run in an inning. That's a ridiculously high standard that nobody meets.
  14. I think we will see up to 8 players traded: Castro, Paddack, France, Bader, Vazquez and Coulombe are all pending free agents. Topa and Stewart are old, injury prone relief pitchers who are currently healthy and effective. The front office should already be getting calls on each of them. I doubt they sell more than that unless someone blows them away with a deal too good to turn down.
  15. The starters are trained differently. It's like training for a 100 yard dash vs training for a 5k. Starters are given 4 days off between to recover. They can't have their relief pitchers down for 4 days recovering between outings.
  16. I clicked through, selected my players but there is no way in hell I'm giving them my contact information so they can sign me up for another mailing list.
  17. It's great to see that his adjustments have paid off and unlocked the power that was always there. Can he field his position? It's going to be really hard for him to make the 26-man roster as a pure DH.
  18. I will go on record that I'm against using eyeblack as makeup. It is odd seeing all the makeup MLB players wear on the field now. None of this is helping to cut down on the glare from the sun. It's probably making the sun even worse. I also think it's funny that an account called "Dozier's Glorious Hair" might be protesting a bit too much. There might be a need for some introspection.
  19. They'll have little choice but to play a bunch of rookies. I'd guess they trade away 6-8 players at the deadline.
  20. The Twins are convinced that having a reliever sit for half an inning and go back in the game dramatically increases their chance of injury. You're not going to change their minds.
  21. You're right that it is meaningless. There is probably nothing in the universe less meaningful than fans ranking minor league baseball players. It's also harmless fun. Not everything has to have some deep meaning.
  22. A piggyback means you're spending two starters on one game. That means you have to find two starters worth the innings instead of one, and you have to pitch with a shorthanded bullpen with for the other 4 games in the rotation. You're making it less likely you win with one of the other 4 starting pitchers to try to maximize your worst pitcher in the rotation.
  23. Wentz has a job to sit on the bench and wait for a blowout. The Twins want Adams to get more regular work.
