  1. Wentz is not good enough to last several innings against MLB batters. He is a pitch-to-contact lefty with little swing and miss. He's here to soak up innings as the long reliever. For that role, he's as good as their AAA options.
  2. Seems like a reasonable assessment. France has been a surprisingly good defender at 1B, considering his past performance there.
  3. Eeles has a 561 OPS in AAA. He is not in MLB because he hasn't earned it.
  4. Makes no sense to sit one of your starters just because you needed to add an injury replacement from AAA.
  5. League minimum on a non-guaranteed minor league contract is his market value. His OPS+ has gone from 99 in the season before he signed as a free agent, to 64, 60 and now 50. I would expect him to be even worse at the plate next season. Signing Vazquez would be a missed opportunity to bring in a catcher who can contribute.
  6. If he played defense as well as Keirsey he'd have the job. The Twins are going with Bader, Buxton and Castro in the OF vs LHP. Do you think McCusker will be better than Bader, Buxton or Castro? Jeffers has been the DH with Vazquez catching when there is a LH SP. Do you think McCusker is a better DH than Jeffers? I think the answer to all of those is probably NO, so there is no role for McCusker.
  7. There is a lot of randomness to pitch framing, especially now as umpires are more aware of it. I'm not sure it is even a repeatable skill or if we're just measuring noise among players who are equally good at it. The pitcher also matters. To make framing effective, the pitcher needs to hit the mitt.
  8. They really hate Billy Amick
  9. I listened to the Reds broadcast on Sirius today. The opposing broadcast is always on option on the MLB radio app. Rather than being "long gone" this is easier to do now than ever before.
  10. Brock Stewart and Justin Topa could have more demand from teams than Ty France.
  11. He's going to be even worse next season, so please don't think about bringing him back.
  12. They should trade him if they get the right offer. If he can be brought back on a reasonable contract, they should do that when he's a free agent. He is sure to test the market.

  14. You're seeing Bride and Keirsey right now. Subtract France, Castro, Bader and Vazquez and you'll see even more of them. Adding Culpepper to the 40-man roster before he's ready would be dumb. Emmanuel Rodriguez is barely keeping his head above water in AAA. It's far more likely you see McCusker, Gasper, Miranda and Julien as they finish out the season.
  15. Which one? They can't make a deal with a hypothetical team. What team wants to add Miranda or Julien to their 40-man roster?
  16. Better pitchers are better able to recover from a fielding error and finish out the inning without giving up further runs. ERA was supposed to make comparisons between pitchers easier but RA9 actually does a better job.
  17. WPA completely ignores defense. It only includes the pitcher and the batter in its ledger. That's the main reason why it is a total garbage metric. It's the GWRBI of metrics.
  18. Which MLB organization do you believe is looking to add "dead weight" to their 40-man roster?
  19. Deadline deals are "trendy" and they're only done to make baseball writers happy. You have a very odd view of the world.
  20. They can't sell off their veterans AND release their worst players on the roster. They would be left with nothing. If they sell at the deadline, you will be seeing a lot of Keirsey and Bride in August and September.
  21. Some of it has to do with luck. Nobody has the skill to have a .500 BABIP. Ty Cobb had a .383 career BABIP. Do you think Brooks Lee is a better hitter than Ty Cobb?
  22. Both Steer and Encarnacion-Strand have been lousy this season. Are you really wishing they were on the Twins?
