    My wife and I attended the Saints doubleheader tonight. Raya has nasty stuff but it is good Louisville was chasing because he is still inconsistent with command. Ohl looked okay as well. Sabato looks very happy to be in AAA and Miranda looks very unhappy to be in AAA - the attitude is obvious. Miranda is playing like he's hoping to be released so he can find a different organization to play for. Sabato doesn't have a ton of range at 1B but he can catch a thrown ball. Eeles is fun as hell to watch in person, hustle, aggressive baserunning, charging plays on defense. Julien - OTOH is as passive as ever at the plate and in the field. He laid back on an easy grounder and booted it, then was slow on the turn and didn't get the lead runner on the following play, instead choosing to go to first base. Eeles put the ball in play and made things happen; Julien walked. Royce still looks like he's not right. He wants to make explosive, athletic moves but is hesitant and throttles back. Austin Martin did not play, despite the doubleheader. Americans have got to be the best in the world at eating. I was impressed. People were stuffing their faces the entire game, and then ran to the outfield to get more food from food trucks between the game and post-game fireworks.

    Fun game to watch. Tomorrow should be good, too. Ober has always done well against the Tigers.

    20 days from now is the All-Star break. I think they will want him back for the Rays series at home on July 4. The Saints are headed to Gwinnett next week, so an easy flight from ATL to anywhere.

    They held him another year and now his stock has risen back to where it was at the time of the trade. Are you mad at the front office because they didn't sell low?

    I think they've done okay at selling at the deadline. Cruz for Ryan is one of the best trades the franchise has ever made. There are 27 games between now and July 30. How many wins do they need to avoid selling? Getting to .500 requires 15-12. A losing record in July should be an obvious sell as they would be 4 games under .500 and probably 8th in the Wild Card standings like they are right now. <= 13 wins: sell 14-16 wins: ??? >=17 wins: buy They get the Tigers, Cubs, Dodgers and Rays as well as the Marlins, Pirates and Rockies. What's the over-under?

    Always maximize the talent in return. If they want to compete next season, they can trade prospects for MLB talent in the offseason. Having better prospects to trade will help them more in the long and short run.

    They're 11.5 games behind Detroit. They could win 20+ games between now and July 30th and not make up that deficit.

    Agree on Sabato. Give him the rest of the year at AAA. Martin has already shown more at the MLB level than Keirsey. They don't need to wait a few weeks. They can make that move like an injury rehab - 5 games and he's up.

    The Twins can fit Duran into the budget next year without any issues. They should be trying to sign him to a 3-year contract, not trading him away. Coulombe is a pending free agent. If they're under .500, he needs to be dealt. Brock Stewart is very good, but also injury-prone and in his mid-30s. He's a guy I would be looking to sell at the deadline. His stuff is good enough and his salary low enough that several teams should be interested. He has enough team control remaining that they could get a real return.

    So you want Sabato to sit on the bench, rarely play and occasionally pitch in blowouts?

    That window is WIDE open. They should swap Martin for Keirsey ASAP. They certainly don't need to wait a month.

    Yes, good game from him. 5 and fly is fine right now. Build on success.

    Young players are more likely to improve than old players. Yes and no. There were other players who could have been cut instead of Henriquez. Players who have since been cut from the roster were kept instead. This stuff happens. Relievers are hard to predict. Hoffman and Pagan are closers now.

    The Marlins are quite happy they grabbed Ronny Henriquez off waivers.

    Joe Ryan leads the team in WAR, but honestly the gap between Joe Ryan and the next pitcher in AAA isn't as bad as the chasm between Buxton and Dashawn Keirsey. Keirsey has been so bad (-1.2 WAR) that he negates the entire contribution of Willi Castro AND Matt Wallner. Somehow he has been able to do that in just 70 plate appearances. Therefore, I agree that Buxton is the right choice.
