4 Twins Prospects Who Could Provide a Second-Half Boost
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gabriel Gonzalez is 21, has 175 PAs at AA (with a 970 OPS), 1700+ PAs in the minors. He also needs to go on the 40-man roster this offseason or he will certainly get selected in the Rule 5 draft.- 47 replies

4 Twins Prospects Who Could Provide a Second-Half Boost
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The most likely prospects you will see are either a) already on the roster - that's Keaschall, Raya and Rodriguez (and McCusker). Also includes the graduated prospects Austin Martin and Kody Funderburk b) eligible for Rule 5 draft this offseason so they might need to be added to the roster - that's Pierson Ohl, Andrew Morris, Cory Lewis, Christian MacLeod, Jaylen Nowlin, Cody Laweryson, Noah Cardenas, Aaron Sabato, Tanner Schobel, Ricardo Olivar, Gabriel Gonzalez (my dark horse instead of Jenkins), Connor Prielipp, CJ Culpepper, Darren Bowen and John Klein. You're unlikely to see anyone from list B until September.- 47 replies

He has speed and range in the infield, can field a hard-hit ground ball and turn the double play. He has a weak arm compared to MLB SS and CF and compares more favorably to 2B/LF.

I wouldn't say I want to watch bad veterans, but I also don't want to watch bad rookies. I don't see a reason to burn service time on a real prospect if he isn't ready yet. That just means some other team gets his productive years when he signs somewhere else as a free agent.

I think there are a lot of people in line before Eeles: Keaschall, Martin, Julien for sure, probably Gasper again. Schobel is Rule 5 eligible in December so he may have priority to get a roster spot. They may want to reward Will Holland or Anthony Prato with a callup. Eeles has been pretty mediocre at AAA this season - .260/.344/.288 slash. He's not a major league caliber SS or CF. There's nothing there that suggests he's forcing people to notice him for a promotion.

Eeles was injured and unavailable when they added Jonah Bride.

Eeles does have a pretty clear defensive home - 2B. He's going to need more offense to earn a starting position at 2B in the majors. I don't think he is likely to debut this season because the Twins will not want to protect him on the 40-man roster this offseason.

He'll be available in the Rule 5 draft this offseason. The Dodgers won't protect a guy with a .700 OPS in Double-A.

Took advantage of the Saints $4 ticket deal (after fees) and got a pair for Saturday night. Sale ends tonight.

I don't think the past month is a good representation of Wallner's expected performance the rest of the season. I don't know why Wallner is getting singled out when there are 6 other players who have been just as bad, if not worse. It's especially weird to single him out in a game thread where he got a hit. Actually, I do know why - he strikes out. People would rather watch someone hit weak infield grounders that turn into singles 25% of the time than watch someone who hits HR and strikes out. Wallner is going to be a boom-and-bust player.

Player OPS last 28 Days Lee .780 (and trending down, he had a brutal last week) Larnach .759 Lewis .732 Correa .708 Jeffers .626 Clemens .616 France .579 Wallner .573 Keirsey .250 Vazquez .200 (with an .054 batting average) Wallner is bad recently, but he's about equally bad as France and Clemens. Christian Vazquez has a .200 OPS (not batting average, OPS) over that time period and one poster here wants to give him a 2-year contract extension.

That would be malfeasance by the front office. Vazquez is a complete zero at the plate right now and he keeps getting worse as he gets older. Why do you want to watch 36-year-old Christian Vazquez hit .100 in 2027? If he decides to play in 2026, he's going to settle for a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. He is likely to bounce around the waiver wire for the remainder of his career.

Week in Review: Something to Build On
DJL44 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kody Clemens would get 80% of the playing time in that platoon. You'd be seeing if Sabato had what it takes to be a short-side platoon 1B playing against LHP. That's more than people expected from Sabato last season, but I think you really want to find out if he can play every day. The slow players care about winning, too. Christian Vazquez is trying to win, he just can't hit anymore. Desire isn't measured in foot speed.- 36 replies

Yes, but it is important to remember that there is no "book" on Sabato yet. Nobody has paid much attention to him because he's been mostly lousy before this season. He will also face challenges when teams find a weakness.- 36 replies

Batters on the team with a lower OPS than Wallner Correa, Lee, Lewis, Vazquez, Keirsey, Jeffers, France but, by all means, let's make Wallner the scapegoat.

Is one of them Dashawn Keirsey? No, you said 100 AB cutoff. Keirsey doesn't have 100 AB for his career yet. Hopefully he'll never get there. Throwing out two base stealers today was pretty huge. That isn't something that happens every game, though.

Two out of three against Tampa is a good series.
