  1. No, I just assumed the original poster was using career numbers for everything. I suppose could have figured it out but I have a limited amount of time to fact check posts. I will still stand by my statement that he’s not one of the top 20 problems to solve.
  2. He's had 871 PAs and only had a chance to drive in runners in 58 of them in his entire career? That's crazy low for opportunities.
  3. Development time for your best players. Service time for players who aren't ready yet. Actual players from your organization because you have to cut someone to bring someone else up. If their talent evaluation process becomes "throw players at the wall and see which ones stick" then they all need to go.
  4. To be fair to Clemens, 1B isn't even his best position. A 95 OPS+ is plenty good enough for a utility player, which is what Kody Clemens is. He's only an everyday 1B on this team because they're desperate. On a good team he's your 10th best position player on the roster. The fact that they have a utility player as their everyday starting 1B tells you all you need to know about the Twins offense.
  5. That's wrong. He has 27 RBI in 79 games this season. His career average over 162 games is 75 RBI. He's not an all-star, but he's clearly a major league hitter.
  6. I guess if you want to develop one-dimensional hitters, then that's fine. You'll get a Royce Lewis who can only hit opposite field, a Matt Wallner who grounds out to 2B all the time, a Brooks Lee who hits like Julien and a Julien who hits like Brooks Lee. Never mind that you can't punish people into performing better athletically. Lots of coaches will take a player who is struggling at the plate and have them put down a bunt. It's not a crazy idea to have players look at the situation and try to make the most of the at-bat in that situation. I want Royce Lewis to be able to pull the ball when they give him a fastball in, go opposite field on a slider away AND put down a bunt when the situation calls for it.
  7. Keirsey really hasn't hit "very well" in the minors. His best OPS is 850 and he's always been older than average for each level. He's hit "okay" in the minors and was horrible in the major leagues. He only got two or three at-bats a week because his manager was smart enough to realize that he can't hit. I don't see any reason to keep Keirsey on the 40-man roster this offseason. There are dozens of guys just like him in the minors.
  8. They actually have a name for that. It's called the "hot hand fallacy".
  9. Because Roden was bad for a week. If they bring up Fedko and he has a bad first 20 games the same fans will be ready to cut bait on him forever and bring up the next minor leaguer.
  10. I am struggling to figure out why Matt Wallner has suddenly become the whipping boy around here. He's not perfect but he's performing a LOT better than most of the roster (927 OPS since the all-star break). Is it "hate the local boy" like Joe Mauer? Is it people who hate power hitters who strike out and would rather see slap hitters ground out to SS? He's always going to be a low batting average, high strikeout power hitter but we're up around 900 major league plate appearances that say his bat is good enough. Wallner doesn't make the top 20 things wrong with this team.
  11. Late in the game Royce Lewis, who isn't hitting much this season, came up in a classic bunt situation. The announcers doubted he would bunt, because he has hardly ever been asked to bunt in the past. I do not understand this at all. Wins and losses are meaningless the rest of the season. The only point of these games is to develop the players. If you aren't going to ask him to bunt in that situation, where there is absolutely nothing to lose, then you're basically giving up on developing Royce Lewis as a batter. Why in the world would Rocco prioritize winning this game above developing his players in the long term?
  12. There is a good argument that they are actually holding back Abel's development by continuing to keep him in AAA. He's ready.
  13. The Twins ran themselves out of the game with their aggressive baserunning. Did you want them to lose more games by making more outs on the bases in May and June?
  14. This is the longest time between expansions since the 1950s contraction when the Negro Leagues folded. MLB is pulling in more international talent than ever. More pitchers throw in the upper 90s than ever. Maybe if we expanded and watered down the pitching a little the league’s batters would hit above .240 as a group.
  15. San Antonio over all of them. You can visit Pee-Wee's bicycle in the basement of the Alamo. All kidding aside, San Antonio + Austin = 5+ million people within driving distance. No other site has numbers like that. Ranking by potential media market San Antonio + Austin (similar to Phoenix, Atlanta) Charlotte, Portland, Nashville (St Louis, Pittsburgh, San Diego) Salt Lake City (Kansas City, Milwaukee, Cincinnati) I doubt MLB will want to bring in another revenue sharing recipient in SLC. Charlotte and Nashville would be revenue neutral. Charlotte would capture all of North Carolina's attention (11M people) and Nashville would get all of Tennessee (7.3M). Those numbers are significantly higher than Oregon (4.3M) or Utah (3.5M).
  16. I could see SLC using public money to build a stadium. They spent big to get the Olympics. One other fun part with expansion is it means adding 3 minor league teams and 2 spring training complex teams for each MLB team. I am expecting Oakland will get AAA baseball soon.
  17. AL South: Houston, Rangers, SAN ANTONIO, KC AL West: LAA, LVA, SEA, COL NL South: Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, NASHVILLE or CHARLOTTE
  18. Making those games commonplace and boring instead of rare and unique. The Twins can't sell tickets in Minneapolis right now. Do you think Brewers fans are going to drive to Minneapolis for 14 games a year? The A's are headed to Vegas. They broke ground in June. The Rays will get a new stadium in Florida by playing Tampa, St. Pete and Orlando against each other. Since you brought up stadiums, that's the leading indicator of where the expansion teams will end up. I think it's far more likely that San Antonio gets a team than Portland, OR. Texan politicians love to spend their tax revenues on sports stadiums. Nashville is possible, but not Vancouver. Charlotte is another possibility, but not Montreal.
  19. So you want to bench Brooks Lee and play Culpepper at SS? You want to have him skip AAA and start his service time clock because this team has become boring to watch in a lost season? Sabato has been a mediocre AAA hitter. Fedko has only had a few plate appearances (against mostly bad pitching) in AAA. Eeles has also been mediocre at the plate. Pretty much everyone in the minor leagues is exactly where they need to be to keep them sufficiently challenged. Culpepper and Jenkins could move to AAA, but they promoted Gonzalez to AAA and he's not dominating despite seeing pitching that has been pretty lousy. If you're bored and want to watch the minor leaguers play, it's easy to watch those games instead with your TwinsTV subscription.
  20. Matt Wallner has a 927 OPS since the All-Star break, but you want to bench him for James Outman?! Outman is what he is, and he strikes out 40% of the time.
  21. Or, counterpoint, the average runs allowed in the PCL is 6 and Round Rock is giving up 5.7 runs per game. Their starting pitcher last evening has an ERA of 7.16. You have to be very careful when looking at AAA stats to adjust for the run environment.
