The bullpen was worse just last season after the deadline.

Pretty sure Zoll owns this offseason
  3. DJL44
They traded for castoffs and didn’t sign a free agent reliever for more than $2M. They spent the whole offseason sorting through the stuff left on the curb at the end of the garage sale. They added those pitchers to the guys nobody wanted last summer at the deadline There is no “low leverage” but there is also no bullpen with eight closers.

Terry Ryan would have put a decent defense in front of his pitch-to-contact pitchers.

I actually think the front office did a decent job sorting through the pitchers nobody else in the league wanted to cobble together a bullpen that isn't the absolute worst in the league. The problem, of course, is they didn't add anyone to the bullpen who was wanted by another team. It's a bunch of guys who are fine as the 7th or 8th guy in the bullpen.

The simple answer is the thing Luke needs to work on is adjusting to major league pitchers and they don’t have those in AAA. Sending him to AAA for a “reset” just delays that work until he gets back from AAA. ”So 4/5 not done and we may be at .500.” So what? This team should not spend any more time or talent chasing .500. There aren’t any third place trophies.

Solid CF but his gold glove days are over. I wish the Twins defense was solid at other positions.

Keaschall had a decent game yesterday too. They’re going to need to let him make adjustments in the majors.
  9. DJL44
Somehow there are a handful of bullpens worse than the Twins.

I got to attend this one in person. Gilbert was nasty and the Twins approach was to go after the first strike they saw. Not that effective in hindsight. Randy Arozarena made a lot of fans tossing baseballs into the crowd. Not sure if they will have any left to play today’s game. Larnach had a good evening with a double off the wall and a nice catch in LF. We can stick with this OF. Cole Sands got lit up. Everything hit hard. I still can’t believe Kody Clemens is still the starting first baseman. A big part of their struggles on offense is patching together first base with a utility fielder and a backup catcher. Meanwhile, Naylor is destroying baseballs and flipping bats for the Mariners.

Lots of playing time at first base available in St Paul.
  12. DJL44
The only thing I can infer is he’s really bad there defensively.
  13. DJL44
What stands out about Mendez is he's still playing mostly LF, only 2 games at first base. First base is his ticket to the majors, there are like 10 guys ahead of him in line for LF. At first base he just needs to be better than Kody Clemens.

I hadn’t checked in a while. It looks like he is more 3B/2B now.
  15. DJL44
Paul DeJong plans on opting out of his Yankees contract in a few days.

If you want help from AAA you should be looking at other orgs. 1B - Michael Toglia, 940 ops; Felix Reyes, 999 ops; Niko Kavadas 1043 ops; Ryan Ward 991; Jonah Bride 966; 2B - Cesar Prieto, 994 OPS; Chad Stevens 938 RH platoon OF - Stuart Fairchild 968 OPS

The AAA guys are mostly struggling in AAA. Roden looked ready before he injured his shoulder. Rodriguez is hitting for power and drawing walks but batting .239 while striking out 1/3 of the time. Everyone else is a mediocre AAA batter.
  18. DJL44
    Ryan Gallagher gets the promotion
  19. DJL44
Just how bad do you want the defense to be? I think that would be worse than Bell.
  20. DJL44
“Matt Wallner, James Outman, Keaschall, and Kody Clemens have all produced negative WAR so far.“ I always expected Outman and Clemens to produce little if anything. Keaschall’s deep slump is surprising.
  21. DJL44
They could still try Keaschall at first base.
  22. DJL44
The Twins are actually 22nd in bullpen ERA, which is a little inflated by their bad defense.
  23. DJL44
I don’t understand why they’re having bullpen games in St Paul when they could give the innings to Culpepper.
  24. DJL44
    Site is extra glitchy today
  25. DJL44
27 games complete. Multiply by 6 to get full season projections. 72-90
