  1. It has to be a cold shower for Vazquez to realize no good team wants him.
  2. Ty France makes $1M this season. That's barely more than league minimum.
  3. Putting words in my mouth. I never said that. I said they moved a bunch of dead money with Correa's trade. That deal had at least $75M of dead money and they only had to pay down $33M. They were looking forward to 2027 with Correa playing the Ty France role as a good fielding 1B who doesn't hit for power.
  4. He has a WAR of 0.1. Nearly everyone has been better than Correa this year.
  5. It's a good thing they traded Correa, then. He wasn't one of their 5 best players anymore. He wasn't one of their 20 best players this season.
  6. I think they could have done better than this in the offseason, especially if Jax had done well as a closer for the last two months. Taj Bradley isn't chopped liver, but he also isn't "two top 100 prospects".
  7. The Twins are a 4th place team. Paying Carlos Correa a bunch of money to play for a 4th place team has no value. The Twins were going to pay him $44M before they had a chance to be relevant again in 2027 (a completely sunk cost) and who knows if Correa will still be playable in 2027. The Astros were basically the only team who wanted him and they overpaid despite having leverage. It's actually amazing the Twins pulled this one off.
  8. This is a weird trade. I expected them to build Varland up as the closer and trade him after he had that reputation. It is sad/funny that absolutely no other team in baseball wants Christian Vazquez. I'm actually a little surprised they didn't trade Jeffers, maybe he gets an extension in the offseason.
  9. So, the Twins were effectively going to eat $12M for Carlos to pay for a 4th place team this year and another $32M to play for a non-contender next season as well. They only ate $33M, that's actually a really good deal for the Twins. The Astros valued him like a $25M/season player and he's been playing like a $10M/season player.
  10. The Mets gave up more for their lefty as well. This looks like the Twins held out for a lot and got left at the altar.
  11. What good is team control of a player most teams would non-tender in the first year of arbitration?
  12. WTF, this does nothing for the team in the long or short run. Just play Emmanuel Rodriguez.
  13. I think the Twins shed the $3M commitment they had to Bader which will bring their total salary decrease to ~$10M when this is through. Getting paid $3M to take two prospects is a good deal. It’s nearly impossible to mess up a pure rental trade.
  14. Sounds like the ask from Houston was Carlos Correa plus $50M plus Trevor Larnach for nothing.
  15. One nice thing about a LH hitting catcher is it is very easy to sit them when a LH pitcher starts. Easy to find a RH hitting catcher for those starts.
  16. Or, just a suggestion, fire Rocco instead of trading all the players.
  17. What's the downside for the free agent? "If it doesn't work out we'll trade you to a better team" isn't a big problem for most players.
  18. I would have been fine with this return for Jax, but wanted another prospect (Seth Johnson would have been nice) in return for Duran. "Proven closer" still carries some extra weight. I will point out that Duran wasn't nearly as highly regarded as Abel when the Twins acquired him for Escobar. If it turns out well, the Twins just got Jeffers and Ober (or Jeffers and Jax) in return for Duran, however, as has been pointed out elsewhere, the Twins took on more risk in the deal. The really sad part to me is the Twins missed their opportunity to get Duran to sign a deal that locked him up with the Twins until he was 30. They're going to miss out on Jeffers as well. Those are huge failures by the current front office. The Twins have to extend their talent below cost when they have the opportunity. I hope this means they are going to be able to dump Correa's salary on Houston. There is no reason at all to pay him $32M a season to play for a rebuilding team. Sell Coulombe, Bader, Castro, Jax and Stewart as well.
  19. Wallner accounted for all the run scoring in today’s game. Weird that you would single out the one player who produced a run as the problem with the offense.
  20. They will look a lot worse in the short term.
