  1. The whole point of fan voting is to get fans interested in watching the All-Star game. I guess we could have robots pick the team and then get a whole bunch of robots to watch it. Robots don't buy a lot of shaving cream so advertisers may be disappointed.
  2. It is worth debating whether we actually want automated umpires to call the rule book strike zone. Human umpires naturally round off the corners. Robo umps won't do that. Those pitches at the corners are less hittable than the pitches low and over the plate that human umpires typically call strikes. This will give pitchers an advantage and we can expect strikeouts to increase with a robo-zone.
  3. Hard to get fleeced when you don't give up much. Taylor Rogers was bad last season.
  4. Silva pretty much instantly becomes the best catching prospect in the system.
  5. Thanks for the Correa article. I haven't heard much about him this offseason.
  6. Highest dollar long-term deal Falvey has ever given a pitcher
  7. If they wait until they only have 1 year of control left the amount of the extension will be too rich for the Twins and the player will just go to free agency. This is in the "Goldilocks" zone of team control. The other reason to extend him now is they probably don't want to lock him up past age 30. 5 years and $50M could get it done. That would give Arraez a nice payout and a chance at free agency at age 30. It would give the Twins 2 free agent years at about Joey Gallo money.
  8. Come on. We all know that guy is more into pro pickleball than he is into baseball.
  9. Oakland has nothing to lose. Their attendance is already last in MLB, it isn't going to get more last. They might see attendance go up if people come just to yell mean things at Trevor Bauer.
  10. That's more like changing the subject than disagreeing. I think they could find a replacement for Arraez easier than they can find a pitcher as good as Pablo Lopez. That has nothing to do with whether Lopez is the right pitcher to try to obtain. He is the name floated most often and I think he's the easiest to get.
  11. Arraez for Lopez is a steal for the Twins. The Twins will have a much easier time finding a 1B who can replace Arraez than a P as good as Lopez.
  12. This has the added advantage that there are no fans to scare away.
  13. I'll second Japan. He may need to go overseas for a second chance.
  14. This is Correa's team now, he's the face of the franchise for the 2020s just like Mauer was in the 2000s. If they don't make the playoffs in 2023 I expect to see a coaching change.
  15. AFL pitching was terrible
  16. Now they really need to swap a LH hitting outfielder for a RH hitting outfielder.
  17. Unless they are brain dead they will acquire two pitchers for the roster to take Canterino and Paddack's spots.
  18. I agree, they really need to quit inducting players like Harold Baines, Jim Kaat, Tony Oliva and Lee Smith.
  19. "Didn't take steroids" shouldn't be impressive enough to get a Hall of Fame vote. That's like "Didn't swear at his dog".
  20. dWAR is useless for almost everything. Use RField to figure out how good a player was versus their positional average.
  21. I think Correa is going to have a chip on his shoulder for a while. Prove them all wrong, Carlos.
  22. The Giants could have but I don't know if the Mets have the ability to front-load the contract that much. Every $$ they spend costs a 90% penalty. $33M a season becomes $63M. That's a steep price to upgrade from Eduardo Escobar. I hope the option vests, Correa plays well for 10 seasons and 20 years from now we're debating whether Correa wears an Astros or Twins cap in the Hall of Fame (hopefully not that new M* cap though).
