  1. $$/WAR is based on the average but how it is allocated is not linear. It's easy to find 1 WAR projection players who are signing for the league minimum. Players get a premium for elite performance because you can't replace a 7 WAR player with seven 1 WAR players.
  2. How much of Kris Bryant's salary are they willing to pay down for him to play for the Twins? They owe $136M over the next 5 years but I doubt he would get 60% of that in free agency.
  3. And it's a lousy 1B tandem. A combined OPS < 750 is substandard for 1B. Kirilloff and Miranda are average (or below average) defenders so that doesn't help either. It's a known hole in the lineup going into 2024.
  4. I think Wagner will be back next year for his 10th time on the ballot. Still time to stop the writers before they make that mistake.
  5. I think he can get better and it doesn't take much improvement to get him back on an MLB roster. Can he get enough better that he can be an above average offensive contributor as an outfielder? That's more doubtful.
  6. Looks like a very reasonable deal for Imanaga. The opt-out after 2 seasons looks like the big draw. Gives him a chance for one more big contract.
  7. ZIPS doesn't like Willi Castro much which is a bit weird since so much of his value was defense last year.
  8. The QO will be higher than that in 2025, probably more like 1 year $22M. The Twins should only offer it if they actually want to pay Kepler that much money because he is more likely to accept it than not.
  9. It will be very hard for Seattle to make it through the whole season with just 3 infielders for 2 full time spots. The Twins needed Julien, Polanco, Lewis, Gordon, Miranda, Farmer, Solano and Castro to cover 2B and 3B last season. Sam Haggerty is not someone you want playing every day and the Mariners don't even have anyone else on the 40 man roster. They are quite thin on infielders after trading Caballero for Raley. One injury and they're going to be moving Ty France to cover 2B with an outfielder moving to 1B. Two injuries and they will need to add a minor leaguer to the roster.
  10. Right, but it points to an issue with timing (a slump) rather than an issue with pitch recognition or selection which would make me feel pessimistic about his future in MLB. I still think Larnach can be a productive MLB hitter.
  11. I think Matt Chapman might be part of the wait here. If his price is low enough I would expect Seattle to have interest.
  12. Right. As of now the Mariners are planning to use three utility players to cover 2B and 3B for the entire season. This is why there is so much speculation that they would add another infielder to the roster.
  13. The problem with playing Polanco at 1B or DH is he isn't worth $10.5M there. His bat is nothing special compared to the other options at 1B or DH. JD Martinez and Brandon Belt are still looking for work. Both of them signed for less than $10.5M last season. If you want a DH you sign JD Martinez and trade Polanco to a team that needs a 2B.
  14. I wish they had given Larnach as much opportunity as they gave to Gallo. I watched Larnach playing for the Saints on TV and his pitch recognition wasn't the problem but he was having trouble getting barrels when he decided to swing. Lots of "just missed that one".
  15. They wanted as much offense in the lineup as possible. They didn't play Julien at 3B because he would also have been bad there and Polanco has at least had reps on the left side of the infield. The gameplan was to bat Polanco and Julien at the top of the order, get the lead and then put in Farmer as a defensive replacement (moving Polanco back to 2B). Kudos to Polanco for filling in on short notice in the playoffs but using him at 3B is a terrible plan for 2024. Personally, I would have put Willi Castro at 3B in that series and played Polanco or Julien at 1B to replace the injured and ineffective Kirilloff.
  16. St. Louis just increased their payroll to $175M
  17. Kirby and Gilbert are really good pitchers. To get one of them would require trading someone as good as Julien.
  18. Seattle actually has the young, good, cheap starting pitchers that would make a Julien trade worthwhile but I doubt Seattle will want to trade any of them.
  19. If you're looking for a bench player to destroy lefties, he's a good fit. Career split vs LHP is .323/.363/.453. He's only looking at a $4.4M arbitration salary and is controllable for next season, too. Can play 1B and LF. Rays Shopping Harold Ramirez - MLB Trade Rumors
  20. You can get a free agent DH bat about as good as Polanco for less than $10.5M. He has value because he can play 2B. If they're only going to use him as a DH they need to trade him. Out of desperation and he was really bad.
  21. Apparently they don't teach about debt in an MBA program anymore. There would never be a business startup if this was true.
