  1. Are there any insights into the current pecking order in the bullpen? Is Topa an option for late innings?
  2. Is he hitting lefthanded pitchers?
  3. I think his bat definitely could be that good and he still has room to improve his fielding with more reps.
  4. Tony and Johan on the Spanish language broadcast would be a great pairing
  5. The Twins have Ober for the next 4 seasons, ages 28-31. That's pretty much ideal for a pitcher. Next season is his first arbitration year. That will be a good time to discuss a 3 year deal with an expensive team option for 2028.
  6. It's weird that until Pablo Lopez the ONLY starting pitcher to get a long-term deal from this front office was Randy Dobnak. Dobnak's best value for the Twins would be to offset a trade for a team paying the luxury tax. Dobnak's contract is off the books for luxury tax purposes so a team like the Mets could save millions if they trade a player with a similar salary back to the Twins.

  8. Bryce Harper was impressed. Bryce Harper praises Bailey Ober: 'Good luck to everyone in the Central' - Sports Illustrated Minnesota Twins News, Analysis and More
  9. They usually do that when the players are in town for an event. The older players typically aren't interested in traveling with the team. I really like the idea of switching the color analyst in the booth this often. Each player only has so many anecdotes to tell before they run out of stories.
  10. Eddie Guardado would be a fun special guest. Ron Gardenhire isn't that busy. Torii Hunter has done well on TV. We'll get AJ Pierzynski for the nationally broadcast games.
  11. Canterino hasn't proven anything yet. His walk rate in Double-A was terrible. He needs to show he is ready in the minor leagues before he earns a promotion. I wouldn't be surprised if he begins the season in Double-A again considering how full the rotation is in St. Paul.
  12. He wouldn't throw as hard if he were pitching in the rotation. You can still get people out throwing 97 MPH.
  13. Moving him to the rotation for the playoffs doesn't make any sense. The regular season is when you get the most payoff moving an arm to the rotation because you can triple the number of innings you get from the pitcher. In the playoffs the trend is for starting pitchers to throw fewer innings than they did during the season and lean heavily on the bullpen. It's better to use him 3 innings in a best of 5 series to close out 3 wins than it is to get 4 innings from him in a single start and have him unavailable otherwise.
  14. 3 additional seasons at $42M each. Makes the Sonny Gray contract look like a steal. Phillies Sign Zack Wheeler To Record Extension - MLB Trade Rumors
  15. I keep thinking the A's should sign Urias and Bauer because they don't have a fanbase to alienate but Oakland's rotation doesn't look that bad as-is.
  16. Thanks, I haven't paid any attention to Clevinger previously. A link in the article would have been appropriate.
  17. The work ethic is nice to have but these two are on the roster because each of them can do something that a starting player can't do. Vazquez fields better than Jeffers. Farmer fields better than Julien and hits lefties better. A team with a lot of cheap, young players in the starting lineup has money to spend on veteran backups who complement the starters.
  18. That will happen right after Charlie Brown kicks that football.
  19. My biggest worry about that strategy is the bullpen would be gassed in October. I'm for getting more innings out of them but not at the expense of availability in October.
  20. That won't happen. Both pitchers already have better offers than that.
  21. If you don't think Pivetta's a better pitcher then DeSclafani, then I guess I can't convince you. It seems pretty obvious to me. He's consistently produced 2.5 WAR per season over the last 3 seasons.
  22. Both would be long-term acquisitions, not just for 2024. Snell and Montgomery haven't signed yet because there are no contenders left with room in the budget to pay them. They may have to settle for a non-contender with room in the budget to pay them.
  23. Syndergaard is interesting. I think he still has the stuff to extend his career as a reliever. The only problem with that plan is he's the worst pitcher in the major leagues at holding runners. Many of the starting pitcher candidates listed above should be trying to find a spot in the bullpen, not in a big-league rotation.
